I don’t know, man. I have one of these exact drives installed in my computer as a secondary drive, and I have no noticeable noise coming from it. I’d be concerned if it were me, but there’s no way the failure rate is that high.

Only noise you should hear is the disk spinning up or down and definitely no grinding noises. HP "factory fresh" sounds like a refurbished computer and sounds like the seller trying to palm off their already used/failing hard drives.
