• A:Answer I am a Windows "old timer". I have been slowly upgrading my versions only because a certain Tax software forces me to upgrade in order to work. My current Windows is 7 PRO 64 bit. The whole world keeps telling me to move up to Windows 10 because 7 is dead. I HATE 10. The reason I bought the hard drive was to partition it to handle both the 7pro and the 10. Was told it couldn't be done, no way no how. That was all I needed to hear. Right now I am the proud owner of a 2TB hard drive that defaults to W 7 and allows me to click to W10 when I am forced to do my taxes. The 2TB gives me all the room I will need for years to come. If I can put 7 PRO on it you should be able to put XP on it. I hated leaving XP Pro behind but the programs demanded the upgrade to 7. It is still my favorite version even though there is no longer any Windows support for it. Just take note of the cable connection. If you are still using the old version of Windows chances are your PC is older and the hard drive has the same footprint as the older ones, but the cable is different.

Q: Questionit says it is a sata drive, but in the specs it says Maximum Data Transfer Rate 147 megabytes per second, that's slower than usb. Is it a misprint?

• A:Answer The interface is SATA. That doesn't mean you will get SATA speeds. Hard drives are typically very slow compared to SSDs. This one is no exception. Don't use it as a boot drive. Only use this for extra storage.

Q: QuestionI just bought one today with a SATA III cable. Plugged that into the computer and the hard drive cord from my computer into the hard drive still doesn’t work? Am I missing anything?

• A:Answer SATA requires both the data cable connecting the drive to the motherboard and a power cable coming from the power supply. The power cable connector is roughly twice as wide as the data cable connector and will be included as standard with any modern power supply. Some prebuilt computers only have two SATA power cables. If you can't find one, your optical drive will have one plugged into it (if you choose to sacrifice the optical drive you could use that one). If you do not have one available, buy a Molex to SATA adapter (should only be a few dollars). Your power supply should have Molex available, which looks like four large pins in a straight line.

Or 2) install the new disk, then install Windows and your applications, starting from scratch.
