It's a drive like any other. If you choose to connect it to laptop/desktop, it will serve its purpose. That being said, if you want to use with a computer after you've used it with a PS4, you will have to format it first, because Windows will not recognize the file system and won't be able to read from or write to the drive. This means that you will lose any game and app data previously stored on the drive.
