We have two families that operate off of one router. Can I still use this device to backup my own computers without affecting the other family's use of the router? If so, how would I install it (I am not very computer literate!). Thanks null

As long as you directly connect your WD Device with ethernet cord, you can use it. You can even allocate so much storage space for other people in your family (while locking them out of your documents, pics, etc. It really only affects anything if you don't have enough ethernet ports in your router and would have to unplug something. Yes you can. I have 4 separate users connected to mine and it operates perfectly. Each user can have separate pw's and therefore be completely secure. It connects via an Ethernet cable so it doesn't affect the wireless UL/DL Speeds. I've been very happy with my unit.

This doesn't have anything to do with your router unless you specifically set I up that way.Just plug it in to a USB port on your desktop computer or laptop. Directions on backing up come with the device. Or you can just drag and drop whatever files you want to save. It is really simple to use!
