A:AnswerLAN is Local Area Network. That would be your home system. Ethernet are the wired cables that look like bigger phone jacks. WiFi means you don't need those wires. The My Cloud needs to be wired to your cable box, but you can access it with your computer wired to the cable or through your WiFi. So, it sounds like you don't need to buy anything else, as long as you have at least one Ethernet plug on your cable box for the My Cloud.
A:AnswerYes, that's exactly what I did when I set mine up for use. My main computer is on the opposite side of the house from where the router and the My Cloud drive are located and I have yet to have a problem.
A:AnswerAssuming you have both a smartphone and a bluetooth-capable radio in your vehicle, you could share your WD drive (from home) via the cloud (via the provided software) and access it via the "WD My Cloud" app on your phone. Then, you could stream the music from your phone to your radio via bluetooth like you would to with Pandora.
If you meant just plugging the drive into the USB port of your car radio, I'd doubt it. Most car radios have a size limit on what size drive you can access. Buy a thumb drive instead. Plus, how would you power it?
Hope this helps :)

A:AnswerNo, the single drive units do not support Plex Server. I bought this unit with the same purpose and was disappointed to find that it is not.
You have to upgrade to one of the double drive units like the "mirror" to get that functionality.
A:AnswerMy Mac saw the drive immediately as a back up location, and TimeMachine worked great for about 12 hours. Then it started throwing incessant "drive is in use" errors and stopped backing up. Rebooting the drive clears the problem up for another 12-20 hours, then it happens again. Every day, so far.
I have disabled the powersaving/sleep mode on the drive, that didn't help.
A:AnswerYes, just copy your iTunes Media Folder to the my cloud folder and set your iTunes Preferences to the new location. Make sure to check off "Keep iTunes Media folder organized". I have close to 30GB of music and transferring the data takes about 15minutes. If you are using another software app for a non-apple device you will be able to access those files in a separate folder even on a mobile device. The remote app is very convenient and easy to use.
A:AnswerYes, I was able to set up the cloud system with multiple users, with their own passwords. I was also able to customize each user with certain folders they can access. Most of this is set up using the user settings tab.
A:AnswerYes you can add any external hard drive connection to the back to give yourself more storage power.
The holes in the back are power, Ethernet, USB port for more storage and a reset button.
A:AnswerThe cloud can be accessed by your devices from any location where you have wifi access. The external HD is accessed by the computer it's attached to or on your local home network if installed to your router.
A:AnswerYes it can. The only downside is you are totally responsible for your data. If you are thinking of using this drive as your sole backup you should have another drive to back this one up (mirror). A 2 drive solution is recommended.
A:AnswerNo. This is a storage device that is meant for data storage and access through the internet. Great for privately sharing family videos, photos and other files with other folks anywhere they can access the internet. Has an APP for Iphone which is good for seeing photos.
A:AnswerTo my knowledge that can only be done with NTFS file systems. The MyCloud uses a Unix style file system. You could always mirror your drive via a cloud storage service.
A:AnswerReally still worried about Windows XP? But cross platform to Linux, Apple and Microsoft products ... you can turn on NFS ... and map drives to all these devices. Works like a charm.
A:AnswerAbsolutely! This is the exact reason I bought the MyCloud. My wife fills her phone up with pics all the time. So I bought this and she uploads her pics at the end of the month and then deletes them off her phone so she can take more.
