Yes, that's exactly what I did when I set mine up for use. My main computer is on the opposite side of the house from where the router and the My Cloud drive are located and I have yet to have a problem.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You will have a gigabit connection between the MyCloud and the router however your bottleneck is going to be the speed of your WiFi. With an 802.11n router, the fastest transfer speeds you will get will generally be around 100 megabits per second or around one tenth of the capacity of your gigabit Ethernet ports. To get 1 gigabit transfer speeds to this device you will need to plug a computer with a gigabit Ethernet adapter directly into the gigabit router. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can connect directly. WD encourages you to for faster transfer of data.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It will be as fast as any hard drive, the router will not be a bottle neck. Just because you have a fast network, the slowest point will be the internal hard drive transfer speed to the network. Wirelessly, you're limited by the speed transfer over the air waves. Likely only 100.0 Mps. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. You are going to be unhappy with this. Yes, you can connect it to GB router. However, if the router is older, it will only run at the speed of the slowest network connection so if you have something running slow on the network, your router may be the bottleneck. You can tell if the My Cloud is in GB mode if both lights next to the ethernet are green. The wireless transfer rates are independent of the hardwire connection rates. You only get what your wifi will support from the place you are sitting. Finally, I found this drive to be very slow. So slow, that I hate it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can. That is how I'm using mine and it's working like a champ
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This NAS should not impact your transfer rates. However, be advised, you may not necessarily achieve those speeds with this drive. It all depends on the specific connection and file type/size.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Short Answer "No". To get GIGE transfer speeds, all devices must be GIGE (that plan on working with your NAS). This would include your switch and desktop/laptop. Since your running a 10/100 switch; the WD cloud will connect at 100Mbs. If you plan on upgrading to GIGE, cables are also important. You should be running cables with Cat5E or Cat 6 for all connected devices as well. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes I connect the WD My Cloud 4TB directly to a Gigabyte router, Works great, but if you connect it to a 10/100 port you get the fastest which will be limited to 100
