• No, the single drive units do not support Plex Server. I bought this unit with the same purpose and was disappointed to find that it is not. You have to upgrade to one of the double drive units like the "mirror" to get that functionality.

• The WD My Cloud does not support the PLEX plugin. The WD My cloud Mirror does however. It costs a bit more but it allows extra plugins to be installed including PLEX.

• Yes once plex is installed you do not need iTunes to play items and is a nice interface

• It doesn't have the ability to run Plex or any software. But you can point Plex to an external drive and it will run great.
