You have to set up your computer to do backups. That is not a storage device action

I have discovered that this external hard drive will work to backup whatever programs I designate, at the time I designate, provided my laptop is plugged in and turned on at the designated time. I usually choose to begin the backup right before I shut down for the day (or night) so that I can put my laptop out of reach from my cats... just sayin.

With the software that comes with it you can back up daily, weekly, monthly or as needed. Yes.

Yes it will backup at any given time but you have to setup the schedule and the computer needs to be on for the backup to work.
