Yes, I'm doing the same, I was using flash drives, but since I'm also transferring videos ,(mp4 files), I need more storage space. This hard drive is formatted. It also comes with software to automatically back up the entire laptop and set a password for the drive. The file name on the drive is "WD Discovery". You don't have to use the software, you could just do it my favorite way; drag and drop files to this hard drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would say yes for files & pictures. No need for format. Will work on any computer.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It should come pre-formatted for a PC so you shouldn't have to.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Used Passport storage many times, and this one works well for pictures, although I purchased it to have my desktop system backed up.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Lisa; My suggestion is to format the drive. It only takes a few seconds to do this. External drives normally have some data on them from the manufacturer. Go to MY PC, right-click on the external drive, and select Format. Do a Quick Format. When done, you are ready to use it. Best of luck.
