It'll work on ANY of the XBOX One models, including the One S. It's also work as extended storage for a PS4 if ever needed.

The only difference in requirement between the two is that the original Xbox One requires a USB 2 or faster drive, the One S requires a USB 3 drive. I'm using this on my Xbox One S and it's working wonderfully, and you are right, 500 gb of internal storage is quite small... But be glad you saved the money on the console and add this drive to it! The 1TB Xbox One S doesn't have nearly as much storage as you'll have adding this to your console. Chances are you would have wanted to add it anyway. I've also noticed slightly faster load times with games on the external drive. A 1TB console is only 500gb more storage than you have internally, adding this drive adds you 2x that amount for less money. Buy it, plug it in, and enjoy.
