A:AnswerMy unit is about 19" above the stove top. In my opinion it is individual preterence, as well as the overall height of the people using it... I had to have the cabinets above the unit cut down to get the 19" above the stove, to me, around 19 to 20 inches above the stove is the perfect distance. As I said though, it depends on how tall you are... meaning if you are 4 foot 10 inches tall, you might need a step stool.
13.5" above the stove is too close to the range, the filter could get gunked up being that close.

A:AnswerHi sheabird, on this Whirlpool - 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave, the settings for the vent fan can be changed. They can be changed using the settings for High (“SPd2”), low (“SPd1”) and off. However, the Vent fan comes on automatically as cooling fan during any cook function. Thank you for your question!
