We just bought this refrigerator and I don't think it's all that loud. It does have a different sound than our last fridge which was 17 YO but is probably about just as loud as that was; we do hear it running and it is not completely silent. When you close the door and it starts up the fan to cool it does seem to be a little noisier then when just running. When it makes ice it is a little loud (ice crashing and water filling) but same as with our last fridge.
