The short answer: no. The instructions say to add the detergent BEFORE adding water and clothes. We tend to start the fill, pause it after a couple of minutes, add detergent, then resume. The lid is NOT locked during the fill, but the the water ceases filling while the lid is up. It continues when the lid is closed.

What I have figured out is you need to add the detergent before running the cycle. You will want to add before putting your clothes in the basket. You will also need to purchase Downy softener balls for fabric softener.
