chet01- It is not a requirement to leave the door open. Periodic cleaning of the unit will prevent mildew. However, leaving the door open when not in use from time to time will certainly help.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, it definitely helps.. However, you only need it cracked not left wide open.. I leave mine cracked and I only have 3/16 of an inch between the door of the washer and the door of my laundry room.. it's very tight and still works for me so anyone can make it work... great combo 4.5 star.. for me the washer is kinda loud otherwise I would say 5 star.. Also they are super energy efficient which is really nice.. hope that helps..
