Yes you can, but you can also use the app as a controller and set up your sound settings. I used the supplied optical cable and ran that to TV, then ran hdmi to arc connections. My tv remote now controls the volume. And if I want to change the bass or other settings I use the app. I put the small included remote in my junk drawer.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It has to be the other one (universal remote). I use a Toshiba TV with an Amazon Firestick 4K connected to the soundbar. I use the Amazon Firestick remote to power on/off the TV and soundbar and to control the volume of the soundbar
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Depends on what is your video source for this. We in fact use the Amazon Fire Cube's remote for all functionality, and the soundbar one just sits in the near by cabinet incase we need it
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can control the unit 3 different ways. You can use the remote that was included with the unit, your television remote if connecting to an HDMI ARC port, or via the Yamaha Soundbar app.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you're meaning whether or not you have to use the included remote, then yes, you don't have to use any other. If you mean if you can use a 3rd party universal remote, that would be something you would probably have to reach out to Yamaha or the manufacturer of the remote for. Also keep in mind you can use your phone as a remote with the Sound Bar app. It's called Sound Bar Controller and it's made by Yamaha. You can also use Alexa to control it as well.
