If laid flat, the soundbar should be positioned at a level below the listener's ears. If the soundbar is mounted high, such as on a mantle, tilting the soundbar toward the listener has the same effect and provides excellent sound.

I cannot make a comparative comment about "all the sound" coming through like when mounted on the wall, but I can say that it seemed to make no appreciable difference whether I was standing over the soundbar or stooping in front of it. In using it sitting 15' to 20' away from a bar set less than 3' off the floor, it works fantastically to produce full bodied sound and especially in producing clear, audible dialogue, all in a moderately sized living room without pushing the volume beyond halfway.
