Yes your tv is not old… but yes you can use the HDMI to connect your tv and other components to the receiver. How my system is… every is connected to receiver; Ethernet cable from modem, DVD, &fire stick. And a single HDMI to my tv. The remote is advance to run the fire stick etc. I haven’t figured out how to turn the tv from it… but other than that is a perfect system for me
