• Yes. It is an IP camera so you need wifi. It is not a stand alone device.

• Yes, you do have to have wifi. I also found out that I cannot connect to my cameras using free wifi. It's kind of difficult to connect to your wifi but I found a video on youtube that really helped me connect my camera to my cell phone via my wifi.
