Ink cartridge
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This ink dried up on me and the expiration date wasn’t even close to being expired. Very disappointed.

Posted .Hi,
I regret this happening to you. The date is actually the end of the warranty date. The cartridge does not expire.
If you're not using the printer daily you can make the cartridges last longer by:
- Shutting the printer down between uses
- Always using the printer's power button to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying
- If the ink levels do not show empty, you can use the cleaning routine on the printer's menu to clear any clogs in the inkjets and get the ink flowing again
If poor performance appears to be due to a defective cartridge, please consider returning it to the seller.

Posted .Hi,
I am sorry that the cartridge didn’t last long for you. I can understand if you are not happy about that.
Ink usage determines how long your cartridge lasts. High-density prints (such as images and graphs) will use more ink, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the surrounding air is dry.
Here are some things that might help lower your ink usage:
- Set the printer to draft mode whenever possible
- Consider using the black-only setting when you can, to save on the use of colors
- Shut the printer down between uses
- Always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying
If your experience appears to be due to a defective cartridge, please check about returning it. Step-by-step instructions for completing the return and exchange process is covered at:

||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had this ink delivered and it would not connect with my computer when I installed it. Posted .Hi Jude,
Oh no! I see you experienced a connection error. It's a shame you experienced this situation. I'll walk you through the steps to remedy it. Try to turn off the printer. Unplug the printer from the power source. Replug the printer into the power source and restart it. This action sometimes resolves connection issues. If not, revert any recent software updates in the printer.

Posted .Hello,
The color cartridges not working is frustrating. The cartridges could be defective, but let us try to solve this issue. Try resetting the cartridge. Check the ink level in the printer's monitor. Test a print page to see if it works. If that doesn't improve the situation, contact HP at www.support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/.

Posted .Hi Jolele,
I am sorry that you were sent cartridges that don't seem to be lasting very long. I can understand if you are disappointed.
Unless the cartridge was damaged or defective, the ink usage will determine how long it will last. High-density prints (such as photos and graphs) will use up more ink, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the environment is dry.
Assuming the color cartridge was full and not defective when received, some usage might have been due to printer maintenance.
When you only want to print in black and white, it is good to change the print settings to black only (sometimes color is used kind of like primer paint to make the black areas look "blacker"). Even then some color is used because the tiny nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper will clog unless they are cleared regularly. When you are not using a color, the printer will have to use a tiny bit of ink during maintenance to clear the nozzles for that color. Not doing so could ruin the printhead on the color cartridge.
You can avoid some ink usage by turning the unit off when it is not in use. One caution about that though. The printer should always be turned off using the power button on the printer itself. That will let the printer 'park' so that the cartridges are protected from excess drying that causes clogs to form in the tiny nozzles.

Disappointed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This cartridge did not work, apparently it is defective. I was not allowed to return it. So either my new HP printer doesn't work, or it is the cartridge that doesn't work. Or both?

Posted .Hi Ramk,
Your situation sounds confusing. I apologize for the lack of printing ability. Figuring out whether the problem is the cartridge or the printer is a good starting point. If you have another cartridge on hand, I suggest testing it with the printer.
Either way, shutting down and unplugging the printer may help. Follow it up with a restart of the printer. Insert in the cartridge and see if it works. If you are still having trouble, HP support will help you at www.support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/.
