Having longevity in a battery-powered security device, such as the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.), is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the battery life issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like your device is not performing as expected. The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) was designed with the ability to customize based on your home's environment and provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We would love the opportunity to work with you to ensure your device is set up for optimal performance.

While batteries in Ring devices can go months between recharges with normal use, this is dependent on a number of factors in your home's environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. The more events captured by your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.), the more your battery is used to power the live HD video stream to your device. Even if you do not answer the call, video is still sent from your Ring product to the Ring servers. In addition, the battery is also drained each time you use the live view to look at or speak through your camera. As most of our Ring cameras and doorbells are powered by lithium-ion batteries, it's important to note that at temperatures below 40 °F, the battery is less effective at holding a charge and may require more frequent recharges. There are some troubleshooting steps that you can take to ensure that you have your device set up for optimal performance.

You can go to Power Settings in the Ring app to see what features may be draining your battery.

To access Power Settings, open the Ring app:

Tap the menu (≡) on the top left of the dashboard.
Tap Devices.
Tap the individual device (video doorbell or security camera) you want to check.
Tap Power Settings to check your "Battery Level" percentage and "Feature Power Usage."
Tap a feature to adjust "Snapshot Capture," "Motion Frequency," and "Video Recording Length."

To prevent excessive activity, under Motion Settings for your device in the Ring app, you can:

Adjust your "Motion Sensitivity" slider to a lower sensitivity.
Redraw your "Customizable Motion Zones."
Change "Motion Frequency" to regularly or periodically.
You could also adjust the direction of your Ring device so it doesn't detect as much motion.

Be sure to secure your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) with the included star-shaped security screws. Insert the two security screws into the bottom of the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) faceplate and tighten to help deter theft.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) is designed to work with your existing compatible in-home chime. To enable your in-home chime, please follow these steps in the Ring app: Open the Ring app. Tap the menu (☰), then tap Devices. Tap on your Ring Wired Doorbell Plus. Tap Device Settings. Select In-Home Chime Settings. Tap the toggle to turn on or turn off your in-home doorbell chime. If the toggle is blue, the feature is turned on. If the toggle is white, the feature is turned off. Tap Save in the upper right to save your changes.
If your doorbell is functioning but you can’t hear your internal chime, there are several possible reasons. A Ring doorbell that’s hardwired should ring your internal doorbell if it:
*Has adequate power from the transformer
*Is wired properly
*Is set up in the Ring app and is connected to the appropriate chime type.
*Is using a compatible chime kit.

For your safety, only use an existing doorbell transformer within the range specified below or compatible Ring accessories to power your device. For connecting to an existing doorbell system use a hardwired transformer (16 to 24 VAC, 50/60Hz, 10VA to 40VA). Using incompatible power sources can damage your device and cause electric shock. To identify which type or doorbell chime you have, listen to the sound it makes.

A mechanical chime uses a physical bell and a mechanical hammer and makes a traditional ding-dong sound. A digital chime plays pre-recorded digital tones through an electronic speaker and often has a selection of different tones you can choose from. A mechanical chime has traditional short ding-dong sound. A digital chime has a longer, more melodic sound. If you're unsure what type of doorbell chime you have, remove the front of your chime box and look inside for a bell and hammer or an electronic speaker.
