    A Very Good Tablet Computer

I manage a software development team and I travel a good bit, so a portable and powerful computer is a must. This is my first Surface tablet. I looked at one years ago when they first came out but went with a “convertible” touchscreen notebook computer instead. Over the years, I’ve had several different convertible notebooks, but I find them a bit bulky to use in some situations, like on airplanes, bistro tables, etc. I found this new Surface Pro 9 and decided to give it a try. There are many things I like about this tablet. It is small, so it makes it easier to use when traveling. The infinitely adjustable “kickstand” panel on the back works very well to keep the tablet at most any desired angle, and it makes it feel fairly stable. The touch screen works well, and it has a good resolution. Battery life is reasonable. I can get through most of a day on a single charge. Audio quality is good, too, but most of the time I’m using Bluetooth earbuds. Really, this tablet has all the latest features and works well – Thunderbolt ports, Wifi6, Bluetooth, a clear high-res screen and good audio. While it can be used as-is in tablet mode, it’s best when paired with a keyboard or pen. That makes it nearly as functional as a traditional laptop. I say “nearly” because it requires the kickstand to be extended and that makes it somewhat of a balancing act to hold on a lap. If sitting at a table, then that’s not an issue. When not at a table, it’s easier use it in tablet mode with the keyboard folded behind it. The on-screen keyboard in Windows 11 is decent, and the handwriting recognition using the optional pen works well, too. Performance is excellent. It easily runs all the Windows applications I need, including Microsoft Office as well as MS-SQL Server. I like that the SSD hard drive is easily accessible for an upgrade should I need more storage space, though the included 256GB is likely enough. I have noticed that a few programs are slow to launch, like Google Chrome. Also, the SSD is not as fast as what you can get with the high-end Samsung EVO models for a desktop or full-sized laptop, but it’s not noticeably slow. My two biggest gripes that prevent me from rating the Surface 9 Pro with 5 stars are the power button and the weight. With the power button being located right near the top corner (when held in landscape mode), it’s easy to accidentally press when holding the tablet. It would have been better if the volume buttons and power button positions were swapped. While the Surface is not as heavy as a full-blown laptop, it’s much heavier than an iPad or Samsung tablet. In fact, there are some super-light notebook computers out that weight less keyboard and all. The weight is not noticeable when using the table at a table or on a lap, but it is when carrying it around and using it while standing. Other than those two issues, I like the Surface Pro 9 and use it quite often. I would recommend it to anyone needing a powerful but compact portable Windows computer.

Connects to hot spot but cannot work on it. No cell service is a negative. Wish I’d returned it sooner.

The pen has a drag feel to it. Not a good product. Windows 11 is a pain. I got a kindle scribe and a MacBook instead.

DO NOT BUY. Google light spot on surface pro. Seriously just google it. There are soooo many forums and complaints on light spot damages that aren't even cause by the user. I've probably logged less than 20 hours on my laptop. Always closed in a case, but here I am with a damaged product ive barely used.

I am enjoying this tablet quite a bit. I've been finding it so convenient and light that I'll be leaving my (admittedly older) laptop at home more often. Almost everything I need to do, I can do with this. Please note that I have the Surface paired with a Surface Pro Signature Keyboard, which I love, and which raises my estimation of the tablet. Without the keyboard, I'd likely rate it a half a star lower, but only because I value the keyboard as an input device more than using the tablet's screen keyboard. To begin with, it has a good size screen that's clear, colorful, and sharp. The touch screen is accurate and responsive. Setup was quick and painless. I got my Office apps up and running quickly and started doing my work. This was exactly the experience I was hoping for. Booting up is quick and easy. The power cord connection isn't exactly standard, but I don't expect to lose or damage the cord. Charging is quick enough. My first task for the new Surface was to watch the World Cup. No lags. Great picture. And my teams won. I'm taking it as an omen.

This Surface is one of several Surface-line products that I have used over the years. I feel like they really do represent the best Windows experience: much like Pixel android phones or Apple products -- software and hardware feel like they work in sync. This one is in an emerald metallic green which is a great variation from the somewhere between silver and black that most laptops come in: Space Gray need not apply. This Surface Pro 9 features enough power for light gaming, ample battery life for longer zoom meetings with great microphone and audio to make those long meetings just a little easier. While often repeated it is true: I do wish that MS would include the keyboard and pen with the tablet as it is barely usable without them -- Windows is just not as much a tablet experience as a touch with keyboard. I use Surface both at work and for play: I wish this could be my corporate device as I can do more with it with a better battery life and greater portability than my work issued Surface Laptop.

Bought "refurbished", the screen is half dim & has a yellow tint too. I don't think I'll ever purchase from best buy again & definitely wouldn't recommend.
