It's going back tomorrow.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted very much to like this computer. But I don't, and I am going to return it and get a Chromebook eventually (after I have time to do the research). Why don't I like it? For one thing, it kept reinstalling crapware after I uninstalled the stuff. For another, it kept restarting its download of Windows 10 updates; I think I could have left it on for a hundred years without it managing to finish. But the biggest issues for me were three: screen like a mirror, talk about glare; heavy even to lift on and off my lap; and soooo slooooow. That last problem is the dealbreaker for me. The problem is NOT my router. My nearly 7-year-old desktop HP with 6G of RAM runs like lightning by comparison, on the same router as this snail. It is quite likely a very good machine for others, but it's not the right one for me.

Laptop perfect for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have the i5 model of this laptop and so far it works very well! I updated it to Windows 10 Pro and it still runs applications like Visual Studio well. I would definitely recommend, especially for the 1 TB hard drive (was an excellent storage upgrade as I used to have 320 GB on my old HP computer)

Keyboard
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this laptop as a Christmas gift prior to going back to school. It is only Feb. 6th (less than 2 months) and I have noticed that the letters on the keyboard are already beginning to fade. The common letters, like N, E, I, A are practically gone! While the numbers (not as commonly used) are of course still look like new. SN: I also do not even do a lot of excessive typing, just regular use for a college student. I can imagine the cheap painting used on these keys will not last until I am finished with school and I will have to get a keyboard cover. Other than this issue I would recommend it. It is sleek and easy to transport.

4 Years of ownership
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this computer 4 years ago on 2018. For the first year, everything ran smoothly. I was able to play all the games I wanted to play and the touch screen was phenomenal. However, the years after this laptop has died twice on me. It is now on it's third time. I am considering scrapping the laptop and just purchasing another one. This is frustrating since it cost a lot.

Terrible, not worth the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer is pretty slow and hardware and software are consistently breaking. I purchased this laptop about a year and a half ago. A few weeks before the warranty ran out, a key fell off the keyboard. I called it in and HP told me that I could just buy a new keyboard since there is no way to reattach the key. Soon after, another key fell off. I've had compatibility issues, it is slow to boot up, slow to load content. I use a Logitech mouse that is supposed to be compatible, but randomly types backward, scrolls, or highlights text. Device manager always says the current drivers are updated and can't find any issues. It's just a frustrating waste of money. Unfortunately, I can't just throw it away because I can't afford to get a new laptop, but the minute I can, this is going in the trash.

Doesn't last long. Loose ports, no DVD drive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this laptop / notebook for almost a year and a half. At first it was fun to work with but alas, that didn't last long. This HP laptop works when it wants to. Has only two USB ports that became wobbly quick. No I wasn't rough with them. Had one constantly plugged into a USB hub because this is what you do when you have only two USB ports to work with. The other one was used for an external DVD tray when needed for lack of internal one. Yes an HP laptop in this price range lacks an internal DVD tray, a back-lit keyboard and a user-serviceable battery. I've always had this notebook indoors only, was extremely gentle with all the ports and am baffled as to why they became so loose and wobbly so quick. The lack of DVD tray is probably the price to pay for the laptop being so slim. When I reset Windows 10, had to hook up an external tray to reinstall some programs lost in the process of reset, and considering the wobbly ports, it was a huge pain. I honestly thought that the USB port will break loose and just fall out. It however didn't happen but it was a close call. At some point this laptop started having blackout episodes when the screen goes dark for no reason and without warning. I googled and appears this is a known issue because a solution was posted. You basically have to press the power button, hold on to it for a while, then let go and repeat. Once you notice a glimpse of life on the screen, let go of the button, and the laptop will come to. This happened quite a few times and was very disappointing and frustrating. Why oh why. It eventually had the final blackout and didn't come out of it. My HP laptop is dead and the shop tells me that the hard drive quit and no way to bring it back to life. Honestly, I don't want to invest in yet another hard drive just to see the laptop go kaput. This apparently is a hardware problem. By comparison, one of my older laptops with an old-fashioned user-removable battery, back-lit keyboard, built-in DVD tray and multiple stable USB ports is still going strong for a few years to date. This HP one has lasted only about a year and a half. The warranty was up in June. Oh well. Bottom line, I am very disappointed in this HP laptop and in the brand in general. Will never buy anything of this brand and don't recommend. There are better choices.

This is a Laptop the Way Cheese Whiz is Cheese
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I admit I didn't do my homework, here. I had owned a Lenovo ThinkPad and was in love with it. I had an accident at work and ruined it. I had a modest amount of money for a replacement (nothing I do requires a powerful laptop) and I listened to several family members who urged me to buy an HP. So, this was on sale at Best Buy and I bought it. This is the worst computer of any type I have ever used or even seen. It's SLOOOOOOOOW, clunky, the updates take HOURS and most have to be done with my involvement. The page loading is slow, the boot up is GLACIAL, the HP peripheral bells & whistles constantly bugged me to sign up for more crap and be involved with HP. I don't want to be involved with HP. I have ZERO desire to be part of the "HP Family". I have a family. I did ONE simple transaction with Hewlett Packard: I purchased a laptop and now they're like the sketchy party guest who just will not leave. Microsoft is the same way and this slab o' crap takes aeons to load all of the incessant Windows updates, too. I was contacted by HP support, after writing something like this on their FB wall, and they wanted to talk to me on the phone and asked me to message them. I did and asked what they were prepared to do about the complaint. Their answer was that they wanted to "talk and clear the air". I declined. If you're not ready to buy me a new laptop, I replied, I don't see what air needs to be cleared. Telling me how great this crap sandwich is isn't going to change my mind. I never heard another word from them. And I'm even a little annoyed at the clerk at Best Buy for recommending it. DO NOT buy this trashy little afterthought of a laptop. Buy ANYTHING else before you fall for this trash.

You pay for what you get. Remember that
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well slower than a turtle crossing the road. The speakers are junk. You have to put the laptop to your ear to hear anything. 3 days prior to warranty expiring downloaded updates from Hp website and the laptop crashed. Tried some suggested fixes from their website and now warranty has expired. Told them I had problems prior to warranty expiring. Told me to purchase warranty and they would fix it. First HP and last.
