Works but is not impressive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seems like a good computer. Touch screen works well, and i like the dimensions of the screen. It installs programs very quickly and starts up reasonably fast. But in terms of actually using the programs (processing speed) it does not seem very impressive. It has bogged down on me several times, the last time while attempting to open iTunes ?? (and i did not have any other program open) I had to exit it and restart the program, it has done that several times with different programs which i feel that a one week old computer should not do. Have gotten an Unexpected or Unexplained Error message a few times but that was when using 3D modeling programs, which is hard on any processor

Do this first!

Great Laptop for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very good laptop for this price. Much better and faster after swapping samsung SSD. Wireless is only N (not AC). There is extra slot to upgrade RAM (I did not add RAM). It comes with 8G RAM. See this youtube video how to remove back cover to upgrade SSD/RAM etc. There are 4 hidden screws under rubber leg cushions in each corners. I give 4 stars because it is slow if you do not upgrade to SSD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm29Np8JIy4

You Get What You Pay For.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this unit about 2 weeks back and have been using every day almost 24/7. It will fit in any laptop bag and feels like another book in the bag. This system runs great, don't expect to be running AAA titles but you can play light games like minecraft, maplestory and even LOL . Cons: The screen isnt the best from build quality to the way it looks and the way it plays video. the speakers aren't the best either. I think i would really enjoy this a lot more if the screen looked better than what it is. You have to look at it from the right angle to get clear picture and even when you do it feels dim and dull with all settings on high. I would even pay an extra $100-$200 for a better screen/ build quality but there really isn't anything out there matching the specs and price of this machine with a better screen or a machine matching exact specs for price. Overall this machine is a good buy for the PRICE AND SPECS. ALSO GOOD TO KNOW: Best Buy has a excellent return/ exchange policy( pay cash for instant refund) so if you buy it try it for a week and return it for a better one until you find the right fit.

Very good so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just bought it 2/14/18. Set up was easy. Very fast. I’m not a gamer so this one more than meets my needs. Loaded Microsoft office with no problems. A good laptop at the right price.

Started off ok, 8 months later hard drive failure
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Summary - it broke in less then a year. I do not recommend. I purchased this lap top for my daughter to do school work, internet, basic music, pics editing. It is not the best lap top I have used and not the worst - it was good for the price. After 8 months, we turn it on and get a hard drive failure. I chat with tech support, long process to run simple test. Even though the warranty is active, HP support gives me 3 options. For $25 i can mail it in and wait 4-6 for repair/return. I can pay $50 and tech will come out, possible additional $100 charge for new hard drive , warranty ends. $80 I can mail in, 6-10 days total time without lap top and warranty extends 2 year from purchase. I chose the $80, in case it breaks again. I would not purchase this lap top or an HP product again, I have owned many HP products, the quality has gone down in last years. I will update on how long the repair takes, if there are additional charges or issues.

JUNK! avoid at all cost.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had two of these the first one was extremely slow, took a 1/2 hour to download one app. I had a Geek Squad agent look at it and they couldn't figure out why I was so slow so I exchanged it. The second one worked better for about 2 months then the screen started shutting off, wouldn't open the Internet or documents. Tried restarting it and all it did was freeze up. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy this piece of garbage.

Average But Not Good Enough
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been looking for a new laptop for over a year. I hadn't bought one because I haven't had the funds. I liked this computer because it had everything I needed and wanted and was a good price! While plugged in, this computer works great! Keyboard is responsive, looks great, sounds great. BUT! BUT! When it is unplugged, it will occasionally freeze and "sputter" - makes the grinding and whirring noise it makes when it's about to Blue Screen (which it did twice). It has been doing that since DAY ONE and I've only had and will have it for TWO WEEKS. Sometimes it happens every 10-15 minutes, sometimes it won't happen for hours. I had multiple people tell me to return it and get something else. So I am. I don't know if I'll get another HP computer again.

Horrible camera/video
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You get what you pay for. Customer service at HP is horrible. I'm an apple use and use to getting folks in the US and it not sounding like a busy call center. Regarding the computer itself it is just ok. Personally I think it's cheaply made. I'm able to use all of the applications just fine. I really enjoy the touchscreen functionality. That's pretty neat.

Upset and let down
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I convinced my parents to buy me this laptop for college (college applications and such) because it had a lot of space and memory as well as intel core i5. They really didn't want me to get it because of the price and its size, I of course disagreed and convinced them to get it for me but I experienced problems after. It was slow and laggy at first, then I would struggle to log in because no log in box would appear, it would flash for one second but then disappear and I didn't understand why. Eventually it worked but then not long after it stopped and I was frustrated because I read good reviews and got a bad product. Then the computer wouldn't shut off literally I would have to wait until all the battery drained it was a huge bother. I took it to geeksquad and it took the guy sometime to get it to shutoff he had to go in the back and talk to his buddy. I explained to him the problems I had been having and he said it was probably something inside that was complicated and that we could pay a lot of money to get it fixed which made me livid and my parents kept telling me "told you so". So now I'm going into college this fall and I'm probably gonna get like a 200 dollar laptop because we already wasted 500 on this garbage ):

Great cpu for work and school
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because my ten year old toshiba just wasn’t liking its life anymore after downloading windows 10. Doing work was an extra chore. Now with the i5 processor and the 1tb of memory I fly around everything I am doing. I run programs like photoshop easily with no lag between operations. I will definitely stick with HP from now on for further laptop or pc purchases.

Teriible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first one I bought had a faulty battery that didn't seat properly so the couple would just randomly shut down. So after spending HOURS running the updates, I had to start all over with a new laptop that had a properly fitting battery. Aside from that the computer is painfully slow. I mean its horrible. I think that its a Windows 10 problem but I am not sure. I am going to upgrade the memory to 16GB and see if it helps. I already went through and removed all of the bloatware that I could find, but it didn't help. I am definitely done with HP! I might have to switch to a Macbook.

Don't Waste Your Money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the above laptop on August 17th, 2017. Loved the layout and the speed of the device. At least until September 12th when it stopped working. I was able to login using my pin and then nothing! I tried to restart it multiple times and it finally worked. This happened again a few days later and then again today. Right when I'm supposed to be writing a paper! I took it back to Best Buy and thankfully they accepted an exchange for an upgrade. I liked the layout of the HP but will try a Dell instead. Good luck!

I couldn't even get past the start up "gates!"
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Prior to purchasing this laptop, I did read many of the negative product reviews--as well as the positive ones! As most people know, upon receipt of a Windows 10 computer, one must do the initial set up and this includes linking the device to one's Microsoft account. My troubles began when I was attempting to establish my WiFi connect to my router by entering the router's password. When I would use the "numbers" keypad, I was not getting a response. I just thought that the numbers lock key needed to be engaged properly, but I wound up having to use the numbers located above the QWERTY keyboard. Then, as I would use the QWERTY keyboard (even though I did this for a limited amount of time), so many times letter/symbols characters would not populate after I depressed the "buttons." I am a fast, but careful, typist and I cannot experience these interruptions and frustrations of having to repeat efforts over and over. In my opinion, the keys seem lightweight and I didn't like the "feel" of them. I've had other HP laptops in the past of the Intel Core I3 generation and I never had any problems like this. Much to their credit, the earlier generation HP's keys had a "solid" feel. Also, some may view the following as a small problem, but even the on/off power button has such a minimal profile. I only wish that I could have rated this computer's performance when it came to surfing the web; however, as my product review's title suggests, I never got past the start up "gates!" Another thing that caught my attention was that the set up time went "super" fast compared to other laptop computers that I've owned and I question how the Microsoft updates installations could have been properly addressed in such a short period of time. Sometimes it's when basic things don't work properly is when it is most annoying.

Worst laptop ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this laptop after reading mostly positive reviews. After purchasing it I came home and set it up. I noticed it was running very slow and some apps didn't open. Thinking that this particular laptop was defective I went and exchanged it for the same laptop, just another unit. Upon setting it up I noticed it was super slow as the other one. Opening internet explorer takes about 15 seconds, something that usually should take around less than a second. Im very displeased with this product and will return immediatly.

Consider NOT buying this Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Brought this laptop in Aug 2017. I've had problems since. Main problems with internet. It loses connectivity and have to connect again often. Geek Squad has tried to help but they say call Time Warner. Time Warner says it is the computer but they gave me a new modem and router. Temporary fixes are done but not long lasting. Also, have had to replace a couple of items such as speakers. Just no sound suddenly at less than 2 mos. old. My husband bought a Dell and I bought HP. His Dell laptop works fine.
