Some manufacturer warranties are really lame now a days. This gives a good low cost option to get a reasonable peace of mind.

I always get the 2yrs coverage on my earbuds. Shorts in cords, jack... anything. I just bring them back, tells them what is wrong and i walk out with a new pair.
