I would describe myself as someone who is pro safety first, and having the protection plan has always been nice.

The protection is peace of mind, specially on expensive product

I've only had my 75" Sony tv for 6 months, but rethinking whether I should have bought the extended plan. It's just like car or homeowner's insurance. You pay for it, but you hope you don't need it. This was the most expensive tv I ever bought and wanted piece of mind just in case something happened to it. I think the other reason I got it was they discounted the delivery, set up charge & the tv mount.

We have used it on a couple of occasions and have saved alot of money.

In my honesty opinion this is worth it just in case something happens.

TL;DR: We bought a service plan on a brand new 55" TV which has been broken/non-functional since approximately 90 days of ownership. Two months later and Geek Squad has failed to repair or replace the set. I would honestly stay away from both this set and Best Buy service plans. You're not getting your money's worth. We bought this TV after our order from Amazon was delivered with a smashed screen. We went with Best Buy as we've had good experiences with them previously, plus I wanted to go ahead and purchase from a local retailer. I picked it up on the day I ordered it online which was nice. Unfortunately the TV worked for about a month and a half, after using it not more than a couple times a week. I purchased the Geek Squad service plan immediately. It took them two weeks to even come look at the set, and even then they didn't show up in person. They called me and diagnosed over the phone. Their diagnosis based on the flashing codes was a bad controller board. They had the board delivered to our house. It then took them 3 weeks to come to our house to replace the part. The agent was nice, but after replacing the board the TV was still broken. Because had to "follow Sony's guidance" he was forced to just go down the line replacing PCB boards in the set until the issue was fixed. He ordered another set of boards and left without scheduling anything, promising a call later that week. The call never came, but the parts did. He showed up unexpectedtly last week on Monday to replace the parts (we are now two months into this saga). Surprise surprise, the parts didn't fix the TV either. Unfortunately "Sony has to make the determination whether we continue by replacing the panel or replacing the whole TV." It's now been over a week and I've received no phone call, no email, no indication whatsoever that Best Buy intends to actually fix this and make good on their service plan.

Purchased because I made a big investment in a nice TV. Worth protecting it!
