Large Screen, Android Apps, USB Charging, WiFi 6
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer Chromebook 317 is a 17.3”, touchscreen chromebook utilizing a Pentium Silver N6000 processor, 8GB memory, and 64GB of storage. The 317 runs the latest version of the Chrome operating system. A large screen is somewhat unusual for a Chromebook and the 317 claims to have the largest currently available. In actual operation, the large screen was very useful. For example, the Chrome browser can be open side by side with a document, etc. The 17.3” Chromebook is also fairly thin and light at just over 4 pounds. Battery life while surfing and using some Android apps was about 8 hours. I use an Android phone. The ability of the Chrome operating system to run familiar Android apps was very good and contributed to the overall usefulness of the unit. Also the ability to charge via usb came in handy. For all of the positives, I did find the touchscreen a little dull and the Chromebook a little slow at times. All in all, I would recommend the 317 for someone with a need for a Chromebook because of its large screen, its usb charging capability, and its ability to run Android apps.

Perfect for Kids School Works
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is just a perfect Chromebook for kids and their school work. The larger screen really helps them see everything easily and they've been very happy with this over their school issued Chromebooks. This is the 2nd Acer we have the in the house and they are workhorses that the kids carrying around the house haven't done anything. I love these. If you need a chromebook and want a full size keyboard with a nice large HD screen that is snappy enough for ChromeOS this is the book.

Great mid-range laptop alternative
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've never owned a chromebook before now. My kids use them for school and my wife uses one as a teacher, but I've never really understood their purpose. Now that I've had a chance to use the Acer Chromebook 317 I am becoming a believer. A Chromebook is essentially a laptop alternative that does many of the same things, but for a lesser price, and without all the 'bloatware' that laptops come with. It runs on the Chrome OS, so if you're used to Windows or Apple's OS then there's a bit of a learning curve. The Acer 317 is a great example of the value to be found in Chromebooks. You get a nice HD 17" display, webcam and backlit display and even a dedicated number pad on the keyboard, along with a decently fast system capable of most things you would do with a laptop--particularly school or work functions. Being unfamiliar with Chromebooks I wasn't sure what to expect when firing it up. It's pretty much like starting a new android phone. It will have you log in with your gmail account, and then you're basically set to go. Chrome is (obviously) the default browser. The nice thing is if you're already using Chrome all your settings will import over, so your browser will be all set to go once you sync up (again, if Chrome is your main browser). I tried a few things out to put the Chromebook through its paces and had a pretty terrible experience. I tried playing a few Youtube videos and it was awful. Like watching a slideshow with staticky sound. Not ideal. I figured not being familiar with Chromebooks was likely my issue. After some poking around online I discovered I needed to update the Chromebook. Being used to Windows there's definitely a learning curve for some of the regular functions of the device. Updating was very simple once I figured out how to do it. Lo and behold the update fixed all of the issues with video playback. After the update the video playback was nice and smooth, and looked and sounded very good. I downloaded a few graphics intensive games from the play store (also quick and easy) and tried them out--Asphalt 8 was probably the toughest one on the system, but it played very well. Smooth and easy even with fast moving graphics and sound. The battery lasts a long time with every day use, though of course with intensive use it won't last as long. With about 30 minutes of game play, 20 minutes of video play in full screen, downloading and installing a few apps and one update the battery timer is indicating I still have seven hours of use left. The Chromebook gets warm, but not nearly as hot as some laptops I've used. It was never so uncomfortable I had to move it off my lap. That is definitely not the case with some of the laptops I've owned. It's also extremely light for it's screen size, making it very portable. There's a webcam, but it's nothing special. It works, but you'll want to have good lighting. It runs video calls well enough, if a little slow when you're connected (particularly if there are a lot of people in the call). The system (of course) doesn't come with any sort of manual, so if you're not used to the Chrome OS then you'll have a bit to learn, but so far it's largely intuitive. I've had to research how to update the OS,as well as how to actually close apps when they're not being used. I'm still thrown by 'right-click' doing nothing haha. I think the easiest way to describe this Chromebook is it does a lot of things well without being too flashy. It is a great budget option if you are in need of something portable for work or school, or even just personal use. Its also a great option if you have a "Google" home--being a Chrome system it integrates and runs all your Google devices very easily. Overall this is a fantastic budget option device that is capable of doing more than most laptops in this price range, and delivers an impressive performance, all while providing features that normally cost a lot more. Well worth the money!

I didn't like it!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn't like it because everytime I tried to save any Microsoft Office file, it wanted to save it as a Google file. When I tried to save a copy, it never asked if I wanna to replace the file. It made a copy and changed the name to **(1). I returned it today and bought a Windows laptop.

Acer 17,3'' Chromebook
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A good quality Acer chromebook, with an impressive 17.3 inch screen. I like as large a screen as possible, and this Acer fits the bill. Also, like the 8gb instead of the normal 4gb. for that extra bit of power. Virus protection built into chromebooks is always a special feature, and the special sale price of $300.00 saving $200.00 was a great bonus. Glad I bought this Acer from Best Buy.

Larger Screen but Still a Chromebook
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn't really feel a difference between this 17inch Chromebook and my other 13 inch Chromebook in terms of performance. The bigger screen is nice to have but this Chromebook had some strange bugs. When I would have it plugged in to AC power, the speakers would output a very slow robotic sound when trying to play a video or music. I had to unplug the power for this to go away so if the battery was drying, watching a video on the speakers isn't an option for now until I find a fix for it. The Chromebook was also slow in performance and boot up times were significantly slower than a windows PC of the same price range but comparable to other smaller Chromebooks. Although there isn't a ton of things to do on a Chromebook, I was still able to create Google Docs documents which is similar to Microsoft office suite and always have those available to the cloud. One advantage of this Chromebook is the screen if you want a larger screen. It's a really nice 1080 P screen with antiglare which works great. It works well both indoor and outdoor with a ton of light around. Another advantage to Chromebook is access to the Google play store. Although not all apps or games are available, there is a good amount of content to browse and apps that are useful to download. Overall, this is a standard Chromebook with a larger screen. It's a little too big for my tastes with the limited functionalities of a Chromebook but if you like the bigger screen and want a Chromebook you should get this one. Otherwise, the smaller models will do just fine.

Good Option
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I decided to put this laptop to work for a few days using it for my online courses and all of the assignments that I needed to do. It was adequate in handling what I needed it to do with only a few limitations (due to chrome books not being compatible with some of the school software....which I already knew). Overall this is a more than capable machine to handle a lot of needs, It's not a workhorse so you can't expect it to compete with a gaming laptop or anything that would need top of the line graphics capabilities but its a little powerhouse compared to other Chromebook's I have owned.

A Decent Overall Chromebook Choice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I made a good choice with this Acer Chromebook 317 that is intended to replace an older and failing Acer model. I am impressed with the screen size and the available peripheral ports. More than enough for my needs. I was lucky enough to have purchased it while it was on sale as well.

Good Replacement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great replacement for my 15". Actually it is lighter. I just use it as a backup at home so since I do not need it outside the home a 17" works for me. Great deal for the sale price but I would not have paid any more .
