A Very Good ENTRY Level Chromebook

Part 1 - Overview: This is Acer's new ENTRY level Chromebook; it is well-built, sturdy, fast, and graphically engaging. Their Intel i5 processor is fine and the system memory is wholly adequate for a Chromebook. But neither the processing speed nor memory represents a fundamentally consequential improvement from recent Chromebooks for the user. While the graphics card here is ENTRY level, I found the graphics to be quite attractively rendered. Graphics card aside...what this Chromebook has or lacks in memory or processing speed is bolstered by its remarkably fast Wi-Fi connectivity. Remember that Chromebooks are designed to operate as CONNECTED devices - so connectivity is the route to computer speed here. I have incredibly fast wireless connectivity in my home and it would be bottlenecked if this computer needed to pull-out all the stops (I couldn't max the connection out....and I tried). Remember that you might perceive ANY Chromebook to be slow if your internet connection is a mess! After a VERY speedy setup, the 256 GB drive left me with just under 200 GB of space left. Charging, as should be expected, is by USB-C. The included charger charges quickly and the continuous-use battery life, while not fully 10 hours, is excellent. The attractive 16:10/1920x1200 touch-screen is engineered with "antimicrobial Corning® Gorilla® Glass" which is probably a good tough choice for users who intend to use this touch-screen Chromebook with a stylus (which is NOT included). For some reason, the Best Buy site description of this product only identifies the touchpad as having this advanced protective design? Acer includes, as a VERY welcome addition, a slim padded cover for this computer - with a front pouch that easily fits the charging apparatus. Very nice front-facing camera . Part 2 - Important Details: As with nearly every portable computer these days, this is a "2-in-1" computer: it operates beautifully as a laptop with a touch-screen - and the screen also pivots 360° to provide the user with a vertical/horizontal "tablet" experience. In tablet mode, this Chromebook is a bit heavy for lengthy use but is still a large and bright (-ish) tablet. Note: hinges have come a LONG way since computers like this first appeared and these hinges feel fully up to their long-term responsibility. This is a Google-centered device. And, while fully aware of this fact, I was amazed by how beautifully this device was able to link with my Google Pixel phone. I am all-in on team Google, and this was a cool and unexpected way to share information between devices. Well done! However...I need to remind you that this is fully an ENTRY level Chromebook. And there are two HUGE deficits from my point of view. First: the sound production on this device is almost nonexistent - and assuming that buyers of an entry level Chromebook are primarily consumers of media, this audio deficit is a HUGE problem - the audio on this device is almost whisper quiet. Second: While Acer decided to include an HDMI-out port, they decided that there was no need for an SD/microSD adapter for files. Overall: This is a beautiful and easy-to-use ENTRY level Chromebook. As a computer of this class, I would have given it five stars but, considering what I perceive to be the intended target audience for this device, the sound media quality was horrifically bad and I thought that an SD/microSD card reader should be non-negotiable. I would definitely recommend this computer - and I would also recommend that you consider other similarly-priced Chromebooks.

As a tech enthusiast always on the lookout for a device that effortlessly balances work and play, I recently had the opportunity to get my hands on the Acer Spin 714 2-in-1 Chromebook, and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations. Sleek, powerful, and versatile, this Chromebook has quickly become an integral part of my daily routine. Design and Build: The Acer Spin 714 impresses from the moment you lay eyes on it. Clad in a stylish Steel Gray finish, the device exudes a professional and premium appeal. The 14" touch-screen display adds a touch of modernity, making it a delight to interact with content and navigate the Chrome OS. The 2-in-1 design allows for effortless transformation into tablet mode, making it perfect for on-the-go productivity or binge-watching your favorite shows. Performance: Packing an Intel i5 1335U processor and 8GB of memory, the Acer Spin 714 handled all my multitasking needs with ease. Whether I had dozens of Chrome tabs open, was working on documents, or running Android apps, the device remained responsive and lag-free. The 256GB SSD provided ample storage for my files and applications, and the added benefit of faster boot times and snappy app launches. Whether you're a professional handling demanding tasks or a student tackling coursework, the Spin 714 will not disappoint. Display and Touchscreen: The 14" Full HD touch-screen display on the Spin 714 is a visual treat. Colors pop vibrantly, and the brightness levels are more than sufficient for indoor and outdoor usage. The touch responsiveness is accurate and smooth, enhancing the overall user experience, especially in tablet mode. Streaming movies or editing photos is a joy on this Chromebook, thanks to the sharp and vivid display. Keyboard and Track-pad: Acer did not skimp on the keyboard and track-pad either. The backlit keyboard offers comfortable typing with well-spaced keys that have a satisfying tactile response. I found myself typing long documents without any discomfort. The large track-pad is responsive, making gestures and navigation a breeze. Battery Life: With great performance comes the concern of battery life, but the Acer Spin 714 manages to balance the two admirably. On average, I got around 9 hours of battery life with moderate use, such as web browsing, word processing, and occasional media consumption. For a device this powerful, I consider it a respectable battery performance. Chrome OS and Software: The Chrome OS is perfectly suited for this device, offering seamless integration with Google services and access to a wide range of apps from the Chrome Web Store and Google Play Store. Whether you're using it for productivity, entertainment, or both, the Acer Spin 714 can handle it all. Conclusion: In conclusion, the Acer Spin 714 2-in-1 Chromebook is a formidable device that effortlessly balances style, performance, and versatility. From its sleek design and powerful internals to its vibrant display and intuitive touch interface, this Chromebook is a worthy companion for professionals, students, and anyone seeking a seamless blend of productivity and entertainment. If you're in the market for a premium Chromebook that ticks all the right boxes, the Acer Spin 714 should be at the top of your list!.

Best Chromebook I have ever used.

This is easily the best Chromebook LAPTOP I have ever used. Notice that LAPTOP is case sensitive. Using this as a laptop is a great experience. The keyboard is back-lit and has comfortable spacing and key travel. The screen is fantastic protected with Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass. Battery life is outstanding, somewhat depending on what you are doing. The touchpad is large enough but does take a little getting used to. Speakers are not the loudest but perform pretty well. To click and highlight on the touchpad it requires two fingers to accomplish. I have had issues using a touch and drag technique. As a laptop, this is almost flawless. Even better, it does not seem to be a fingerprint magnet on the back cover nor the screen. Some highlights: Port wise you have two USB Type C/Thunderbolt 4, one FULL size HDMI and one USB 3. You can run Steam for ChromeOS. IPS Touchscreen Display. Rated MIL-STD 810H certified. 2K Webcam with a slide cover. Intel i5. 8 GB Ram. Came with a nice sleeve for transporting around and protecting. Missing from the previous version: No stylus included and no garage for a stylus. How well does it handle Steam games? Honestly much better than I expected. To install Steam you will need to join the Beta channel. I loaded up Pinball FX, FX 2 and FX3. All three worked flawlessly even though they are not native 'Linux' ports. The high scores were available from the Steam cloud, so this was even more impressive. Steam uses an app called Proton for some non-linux ports to allow the programs to run. I was quit impressed at how many games can be loaded. I also tried loading up Trackmania which loads. Trackmania has a warning saying 8 GB recommended please free up some memory. But it loads and will run a race without issues. It really ran quite smooth. The graphics were obviously not 'High', but it is very playable. The second load was much quicker than the first load, probably because it was finishing the install. I also used a X-Box controller without issue. Now for the convertible portion of the Chromebook. The hinge is not stiff enough when folded back causing a gap with the back of the screen making it wobble when in a tablet format. Also it is, like any other fold-able, very uncomfortable to hold and use. Much too thick and heavy to act as a tablet. Also, the touch screen, while good for a laptop, is not accurate enough as a table, especially with the play in the screen. It moves just enough to make it uncomfortable and very inaccurate. As a laptop, this is 5 stars. As a tablet, you won't want this to be a primary tablet. But it does work in a pinch. I highly recommend it as a LAPTOP.

Bought this to replace an older Samsung CB Pro that had run out of OS support. This Acer is FAST! And bright. And it came with a nice padded zipper case. And I recently learned it's eligible for the Chromebook Plus update. This was a great purchase.

High quality screen, good port access, and a really good processor. I wish the hinge was a little sturdier and that it had more RAM (this doesnt matter unless you want to install Linux appa in my opinion). Otherwise phenomenal machine.

From my experience, Acer offers excellent computers at affordable cost. This new Chromebook (714) is a worthy addition to the Acer family. As the name implies, the operating system (OS) for the 714 is Google Chrome. Other than using Chrome occasionally as my internet browser, it had been a long time since I had used the OS. So, it took me a little time to reacclimate myself; but, once done, it was all good. I mention this because, if someone were in a comparable situation, issues might get unfairly blamed on the machine. Acer has packed a lot into a small package giving it the “oomph” of many of its larger counterparts. Specs include: *Intel Evo Gen 13 Core i5 processor will manage almost any task most of us would need done. Combine that with 8Gb RAM and multi-tasking is quickly accommodated. Solid drive storage is 256Gb Gen 4 SSD. *Touchscreen is 14” (1920 x 1200) and looks and feels great. The color display is excellent. Composition is “Antimicrobial Corning Glass Multi-Touch” providing strength as well as a safety element. The antimicrobial feature also applies to the finger pad. *Dual cameras and up-facing dual speakers for video calls. *Lots of Ports is a feature that is getting rare, and it is one I especially like. Included are: 2 USB-C (supporting Thunderbolt 4 charging up to 65W), 1 USB 3.2 Type A, 1 HDMI, and 1 line in/out jack. *An amazing battery! Charges fast and lasts a very long time. *It is rugged and environmentally friendly. The 714 is built to military-grade standards, yet weighs in at only a tad over 3lbs. Plus, all packaging, etc. are composed of recyclable materials meeting EPEAT Gold standards. Buy a 714 and help save a tree. Seriously. This Acer 714 is a winner in my book. Having a high-end AIO and laptop, I was thinking of this Chromebook as a gift possibility. However, using it over the last few days, I’m thinking I may gift it to myself. Combining its computing capacity with its small size and noticeably light weight, it would be perfect for travel. Hmmm. Would I recommend the Acer Chromebook Spin 714? Yes!

I love Chromebooks for my kids and this one is no exception. The14" Acer Spin 714 2 in 1 is fast, compact and lightweight. It's perfect for on the go, whether it's on a trip or back and forth to school and home. There is a soft padded case that is included to help keep it protected. There is also a 6 month anti-virus subscription included. The Acer Chromebook has a touch screen with multiple modes - traditional laptop, display, tent and pad, which makes it very versatile for all of your needs. It runs on the Chrome OS, has a 13th Gen Intel Core i5-13335U processor with Intel Iris Xe graphics for high performance. Some of the great features are, 8 GB of memory, WiFi, bluetooth, HDMI port, USB-A, two USB-C ports, one headphone jack, webcam and a 10-hour battery. This is one of the better Chromebooks I have owned. I like how durable it is, It will be great for the new school year. I do wish the keyboard and mousepad felt a little nicer. The mouse especially feels somewhat cheap but I do appreciate that setup is always quick and easy, the keyboard is backlit, multiple ports are built in and a case is included.

Having used chromebooks for many years (my most recent was an Asus Flip 5400), I've now had this Acer CP Spin 714 for several weeks and am absolutely thrilled with it. It exceeds my highest expectations and it's a joy to use. I wanted the HP Dragonfly Pro, but that was a limited edition chromebook and is permanently sold out. It's stylish, very well-made, fast and bright. It lasts on one charge hours longer than any of my previous chromebooks. Sound is better-than average and the display quality exceeds most other chromebooks. I'm just super-happy with it and. despite the price ($699), I think its value (to me) more than makes up for the higher price.

This Chromebook was a replacement for an aging Samsung Chromebook Pro (2017). So far this is an excellent Chromebook, bigger display, faster and a backlit keyboard are welcome additions. Only drawbacks are the lack of a built in stylus which the Samsung had and the increase weight which is not a problem for me since I don't use it outside of my house.
