I've been looking at laptops and off for almost two years at this point trying to decide what I wanted to buy. I have a fairly powerful desktop I've already dumped enough money into so I didn't want to go insane on purchasing a laptop. My primary reason for wanting to buy this was for something to play World of Warcraft on without being stuck cramped at my desk all the time. I was hoping I would be able to at least get away with some decent settings and an ok framerate. What I got was something that can run the game in 1080p with 4x msaa, nearly every single graphical setting maxed, just with things like ground clutter density and view distance reduced to about 7. With the settings like this the game looks absolutely excellent and I have a rock solid 60fps. The only time I ever see dips are in extreme scenarios like world bosses with a tremendous amount of other players around and even then I've never seen a sub 40fps drop. For comparison sake on my desktop I run it at 2560,1440p and everything maxed and I honestly can't even tell the difference graphically between being on my desktop and playing on the laptop and I'm the first person to notice the slightest differences in graphical settings and so on.
I really feel this is the perfect balance. Sure I could have spent on average 300$ more and jumped up to a 6 core processor, but in my situation all that would have been is additional heat to deal with and nearly no performance benefit for anything I do. This strong quad strong processor with hyper threading is an absolute beast. The laptop in general is extremely snappy, I've never noticed the slightest amount of lag in windows doing literally anything. I will say I do recommend upgrading to 16gb of ram. It's not absolutely nessecary, but if you're like me and leave chrome open in the background while using the netflix app and playing a game you will notice you're about pegged on the 8gb ram. If you stick straight with gaming you'll be fine, but honestly another stick of 8gb ram is on average 30-35$ so it's worth the very slight additional investment.
The laptop in general feels made very well. I love the slim bezels and backlit keyboard. Sitting at 5lbs to me it's extremely light weight and nice and slim for a gaming laptop. My last gaming laptop (about 10 years ago) was over an inch thick and weighed probably 9lbs so they've really come along way.
In regards to cooling I've never had the slightest issue with this. I like the "nitrosense" program where you can see all the values quickly. I usually run the fans on coolboost mode, because the very slight amount of additional noise is nearly inaudible and I'd rather have it running as cool as possible with longevity in mind. This is not a laptop that you will have to deal with throttling and over heating issues which was a major turn off to me after reading probably thousands of reviews on various models over the years that looked great, but had cooling problems. Overall I cannot recommend this system enough. Acers Windows 10 installation was surprisingly minimal and it took me about 3 minutes of tinkering to get rid of a couple programs they add and that's it.
In regards to acessing the guts just a heads up, there are no panels on this one. You will need to remove all the screws and pop it apart. It's not really difficult, but I will admit i was a little freaked out opening up my 800$ investment right after I got it. Get something nice and thin that wont scratch the laptop to pop open the pressure clips holding the pieces together, take your time and you'll be alright.

Budget Powerhouse gaming laptop

So we are dealing with a budget gaming laptop. Acer made it possible by putting fast hardware parts with decent display to make it affordable. Laptops works smooth and boots up fast “flash”. Design is stunning with red backlit keys are amazing, and kind of heavy and fan makes noise when system needs to cool down. My only observation is the quality of its body.Frame around the screen is separated from one side, not sure if I’m getting this by chance? However, I liked it so much and been working on since 3 days and so far no issues and system seems fast and smooth.

Disclaimer: I'm only using this laptop for a few weeks while my Dell G7 is having a broken fan repaired.
This laptop is not that loud, and it doesn't get hot. If I remember correctly, the Nitro 5's have a bad history with cooling issues - this is not the case. An i5 and a 1650 can only get so warm, and Acer does a good job at keeping this ventilated under load. That being said, there are some other hardware problems that shouldn't go without notice...
I've been experiencing slight ghosting with the keyboard and mouse on this. If you're a keyboard warrior, then I'd proceed with caution. Pressing multiple keys at different times results in some being cancelled out. I tend to play controller games but this did become an issue in FPS games where I went on keyboad. This also became a bit of an issue when I was doing some slight 3D modeling work.
Now, the performance is exactly what you would expect from an i5, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1650. If you play non-competitive games and you just want your typical 1080p 60fps at medium/high settings, then this is okay. If you do some slight dev work like me, maybe some 3D modeling here and there, then this is just fine too. The i5 handled multitasking quite well, but it could be better. I was watching YouTube, chatting on Discord, and playing around with MagicaVoxel when I noticed slight framerate drops on YouTube.
Overall, I think this is quite a nice laptop, but it could be better. If you just want a decent casual gaming laptop to take around, then this is probably an alright pick.

If you are deaf or just wear a headset all the time this laptop is right for you. If you expect to hear music, game sound, or watch a movie with other people you are you are out of luck because these speakers are way quieter then the sound coming out of the fans at full speed and get droned out.
My razor phone 2 has way better speakers heck my monitor without speakers has better sound if you ask me.
My other review would be positive if you want a gaming computer it is a desktop replacement if you plug it into a monitor keyboard, mouse and actual speakers. and you will not be able to buy the parts for a desktop that this laptop has for the price.
The main hard drive is swift however it's tiny and can't hold more then 2-3 new games and putting games on an old-school spinning hard drive sucks and they could have put an SSD hard drive with 500gb space for less but improve performance for games. It is a gaming laptop why put old tech hard drives in it?
As for the looks it's is awesome like a stealth fighter however the wind makes the screen want to take off like a wing in the wind. I was outside typing an essay and the screen was blowing all over the place so I had to go inside. Guess they did not do a wind tunnel test on these.
Don't get me wrong it's a great laptop but has flaws that acer should address but a solid 4 star for performance value for what it is.

Amazing laptop for gaming and for any other daily application. The 8GB ram is enough but I did add another 8GB. It made me feel better. The computer runs relatively cool even with heavy game running.
Battery life is not the best but that's should be expected for a gaming laptop.
I purchased it for the performance, usually gaming laptops are fast and last longer than regular laptops.
Doing all my daily tasks just fine.

I bought my Acer Nitro 5 about a month ago. I've loaded many AAA titles on it. I play CoD Modern Warfare with the graphics cranked on the highest resolution the screen can muster and it doesnt skip a beat. I've run Black Desert Online Remastered in Remastered settings. Have had no problems. Even got 127 fps on Forza Horizon 4 with graphics pegged. Also runs Escape From Tarkov with maxed graphics smooth and crisp. No graphical issues that I have seen. It comes loaded with a lot of features usually seen on higher end machines. The battery life playing CoD and other high demand games is pretty short, about 2-3 hrs. I keep mine plugged in to ensure peak performance and to prevent loss of progress in games. The keyboard is nice though I wish I could key the light on. Times out after 30 secs. I use a mouse instead of the pad so can't really comment on it. I was pleasantly surprised to find it will run most Xbox One games better. I use Xbox Gamepass for Windows (Beta) and got to compare a lot of games so far. It got 4 stars for battery life. But if you don't mind being tethered to the wall while crushing does and vanquishing demons this is a great affordable option! Totally recommending to anyone in the market.

For the cost, it's a solid laptop. It's a 9th Gen i5 9300H processor, and it's noticeably an improvement from the previous generation i5 8300H. Runs WoW at roughly 110FPS consistently, and most other higher-end games like FF15, at about 45FPS-55FPS on Medium/High settings. The screen is really good and the viewing angles are very wide.
The sound is nothing impressive, and I'd argue it's a little soft. For what it has, it's not super heavy either.
Additionally, the ability to upgrade it is pretty great. You get, not one, but TWO M2 slots as well as an extra unoccupied slot for ram. (I can only imagine what you could do with 2 M2's in RAID) You also get the reassurance of a platter drive for backups of larger files.
Overall, I' love the performance. My only gripe is that NVIDIA hasn't really pushed out driver updates for the video card. Being super new, it is only a matter of time, but kind of bummed they have yet to do this. But that's on them, not ACER. Also, the build quality is all plastic. I don't mind since you are getting a major deal, but it is something to keep in mind.

I picked up this laptop to have as a multi-purpose workstation, and it has performed pretty well! It runs everything I throw at it smoothly and is pretty responsive. I run adobe apps like Photoshop and Illustrator and the run great. Producing music in FL Studio is no problem. Handles multiple browser tabs and apps pretty well. I haven't played many games on it, but it'll run Valorant and Fortnite perfectly. Plenty of storage as you get an SSD and HDD, you can store anything on the 1TB and keeping your SSD as a bootdrive for quick responses. Battery life isn't terrible. You'll get 2.4-4.5hrs on a full battery as you keep using it, about 5-6hrs brand new. The Full HD display makes any picture looks great! I'd recommend to add additional RAM to make this laptop perfect. All in all, a good buy. Definitely recommend as a mid-tier workstation laptop.

I bought this computer to replace a 10 year old Sony that crashed. I was looking more than a basic computer but didn’t want to break the bank on an Alianware. It boots fast with the SSD and there is plenty of storage (1T) in the main disk drive. The graphics are nice while I dabble in DCS until I get the money for a big gaming desk top computer. It does lag a little, but that could also be my internet WiFi which has always given me trouble in my house. The only complaint I have with this PC is that the internal speakers are weak. 30 plus years of turbine jet engines have made me a bit HOH, but my Sony could play videos and music much louder. Acer has reputation for making lower end computers, so time will tell how it holds up. But, 3 weeks into owning it and it seems to do everything I want without any issues.

This laptop is amazing, as soon as I put my games on this i saw a huge difference, I ran Gears 5 on this laptop on max with no issues what so ever. Tried it online and it was amazing! I have also played Valorant and it is max settings and full of detail with no drop off yet! I did upgrade the RAM as soon as i got it, I added another 8gb ram stick, which is super simple and very cheap! (30 bucks). You can also upgrade your SSD and or HDD very simply as well. The fans will keep your laptop cool so it does not over heat and it comes with many user friendly programs to set up your gaming experience to your liking! But do not worry you can also just jump in to any game and the laptop will give you the best settings for the game. If you are looking for a laptop with great power and price friendly, this is the one for you! Like many have said this laptop is a beast!

I have a desktop computer, and purchased this laptop for schoolwork and on-the-go usage.
The strongest pull I experienced to purchasing this specific laptop was the price. After tax, I paid less than $750--Dedicated graphics card, expandable memory and storage, decent 9th gen i5 made it a steal.
Since purchase, I've doubled the ram (found the same p/n for less than $40) and upgraded to an NVMe boot drive (500 gb for less than $45), which set to make this an incredible value, right?
Good lord, was this laptop a mistake.
I can't do anything--anything--without the fans kicking up to 3000+ rpm. It seems to be allergic to core temps over 40C. It's excruciating. Nitrosense is useless--you get no real numbers to work with, have "max", "auto", and "manual" settings, none of which you seem to really have control with. The fans will frequently pass 4000 rpm under light cpu loads. It's distracting, it's annoying, and it's not worth it.
The UEFI provides no fan control, the Nitrosense app offers no real fan control, so you must use third-party apps in order to accomplish any fan control--and I haven't yet tried to see if that really works.
That leaves 2 categories of people who should buy this laptop:
1) You don't mind excessive noise
2) You don't mind tinkering around to resolve the fan problem through third-party routes.
I still wouldn't suggest this laptop, though, as there are many other options available.

I can now watch adult videos and not have to worry about lag. It's incredible how crisp the ladies look. The fan is great you cant hear it. You can add more ram so you can be able to watch even more 11 minute episodes in 1080p with out it being clunky. It gets a little warm when sitting on your lap, but not uncomfortable. Honestly its a good computer. except the speakers are in the front so you will have a hard time hearing the moans with out blasting it and even then you should use headphones to be considerate to who ever is in the house at the same time.

I have had this laptop since February of this year and I can honestly say I love it. I am able to spend hours playing MMORPGs and then turn around and spend time working on thousands of data sets for school with no problem. Overall fantastic for the price and would definitely recommend it. The only downside I have experienced is how hard it can be to see the keyboard. The light turns off pretty quickly once you are no longer actively typing and if it is dark the keys become completely indecipherable. I solved this by purchasing a silicone keyboard cover off of amazon and it works great.

This laptop has already served me so well - my last one lasted me all through college (and a bit beyond) so any new device would have felt like a huge upgrade, but with a newer interest in gaming I figured it was worth investing a little more into a laptop that I knew would be able to support any game I wanted to try as well as carry out the usual everyday tasks I still need for a long time. Especially with the quarantine, this thing has already gotten its fair share of use. After a month or so this is my current opinion on it--
PROS: It's fast, responsive, has comfortable weight to the keys, isn't too heavy, has decent battery life, plenty of storage, perfect for gaming or everyday tasks, the backlit keyboard is nice especially for late nights
(Nitpicky) CONS: Some of the key placements are uncomfortable to me (why are the "home" and "end" keys so far apart?? Does anyone actually use the "Nitro" button that it needs to be so big and placed right with the numberpad?); the backlighting turns off quickly, and the computer goes into sleep mode if left afk for what feels like a short period of time (if there's a way to adjust this I haven't noticed it yet); when you run processor-heavy programs the fan can get a bit loud but that has honestly never bothered me; fingerprints on the casing/screen are very noticeable; the charging port is in the middle of the right side of the laptop, which thankfully works well with my desk set up but is a strange choice; the most genuinely disappointing feature has been the brightness of the display- it often feels dim, and maybe there's a way to adjust this (is it a battery saving feature? I can't tell), but if there is I haven't found a good fix yet.
Overall, this computer has been a lifesaver during the isolation, and has served me so well in such a short amount of time. I feel like it was absolutely worth the price I paid, given all of the strong pros in its design and ability compared to the fairly minor criticisms. Best purchase of 2020 by far.

This thing has been the core of some of my gaming. During a recent move, I used this laptop for my gaming as my desktop was packed away. I was impressed by what this little laptop could handle.
The only downside I see of it, is the 8GB ram it comes with. I am able to play big AAA games, but anything super intensive with a ton going on will struggle (Warhammer 2 is one).
I play most my games on high settings, and a few on Medium (seems to run smoother on medium with the games that are graphically demanding). For the most part, it runs games pretty well on High settings.
I have had some problems with small things like games stuttering, but an easy Google search can show you how to fix that issue quite easily. Saying that though, it kind of shows that it wasn't just "ready to use" straight out of the box. There are a few settings you will have to play with since they are not set to default.
Overall, I love this thing. I wish the RAM was a bit better, but besides that I think this is a perfect gaming laptop.
I'll leave a list of games it was able to run here. These games are just a few ive played, and aren't really suppose to show off power.
Games I play on max settings:
Destiny 2
Doom Eternal (on High settings)
Minecraft
L4D2
CoD: BO3
Civ 5/6
Halo MCC
Warhammer Vermintide 2
Overwatch
HOTS
Smite

I have played computer games most of my adult life starting with Pong. The graphics in the new games are heart stopping. The amount of detail is tremendous . You need a computer fast enough and with a ton of memory to bring these games to life. I had researched the Nitro 5 for a while . The graphics are incredible , the game play is fast . The sound however not so good. It was easily remedied with a pair of blue tooth speakers. You can immerse yourself in the game. It’s easy to use. For the most part Intuitive. When gaming though it gets hot and blows hot air . Using a mouse you need to be careful as it gets uncomfortably hot. It does cool off very fast. It comes with a nifty soft case. Mouse pad , mouse fit easily . The finish is plastic well made . One other issue is the power cord does not go in easily. It’s a funny connection. Battery power for a solid two hours of heavy game play. All in all comparing against all my previous computers . It’s light , not a lot of bloat ware . A fun gaming experience.

Not bad but the 30 second backlight timer ruins it

First the good. I got this mainly for off-site gaming and am surprised by how well it runs. After tweaking and removing bloatware everything I throw at it runs on High settings just fine and it boots up instantly. I was a little worried about how the HDD would perform when I ordered but surprisingly it loads games fast enough. Battery life could be better but you get what you pay for. I mostly leave it plugged in anyway.
Now for the bad. The keyboard backlight shuts off automatically after 30 seconds and there is no setting to change it. This is fine for when you're on battery, and I get that, but on AC power you should have the option to leave it on. The reason being in low light YOU CAN'T SEE THE LETTERS ON THE KEYS. This means anyone who games descreetly at night is screwed. Acer didn't bother to add any light color to the letters so you could see them with the room lights off. This would be ok if the backlight stayed on all the time, but it doesn't. Even with a BIOS update, and setting the option of the backlight timer to 'Disabled' doesn't change it. I'm very disappointed Acer didn't take 2 minutes to include a Windows utility to toggle this option on and off.
I would avoid this product if you like gaming at night.
