I am typing this on my new Nitro 5, and it really, really exceeded my expectations. There are a few nitpicks, but the rest of the laptop truly makes up for it. The camera is actually acceptable, the keyboard is not as bad as I expected, it's way better then I really thought, I can easily reach keys and it's nice to have a number pad, I do use it, not a lot, but it's definitely sweet to have one. The battery does indeed last around 7 hours (not gaming, of course) from watching Netflix, reading articles, doing homework, the 8GB RAM is usually all you need for both productivity tasks and gaming. When gaming, it lasts around 2 hours, depending on what game. The display is a little bit on the dim side, but that's okay.

First off I'll say that I'm your average gamer, I'm not into crazy graphics or getting the most fps.
I was skeptical in the hours of my laptops delivery. A lot of reviews spoke negatively of it's performance and cooling system. Although this isn't a perfect laptop is recommend it! It performs really well and hasn't heated up too much for me. I've been able to run Red Dead Redemption 2 on ultra settings and haven't had any problems, the system has been warm to the touch but not anything I'd be concerned about. I recommend getting a cooling pad/stand for this laptop as well as buying expandable 8gb of ram.
Overall I'm impressed!

This laptop is awesome! I play The Sims4, which is very demanding for graphics and RAM. This laptop handles it with no hesitation.

I had the previous model from 2 years ago I broke due to dropping it that performed amazing and this 2019 model is no different. The 1tb hard drive is slow compared to ssd but gives you a ton of room to store games plus the 128ssd it comes with can store smaller games or even one big game to load and boot up faster. I had one very small issue with my camera not working but I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for it and it was all patched up. The cooling on the laptop is exceptional and it has a variety of ports including type-c. Please not I have had it for about a month now but very pleased!

I bought this PC plus a separate Crucial 8GB memory upgrade. Upgrade was very easily, I had my kid do it. It's perfect for basic 3D gaming like Minecraft, but it's also perfect for streaming and video conferencing. My MacBook Pro by comparison gets screaming hot about 15 minutes into a Zoom, but the Acer Nitro is barely warm even when running for long periods. Plus it's got real ports so I can output HDMI or use wired ethernet without an adapter.

I got it when it was on sale for $699.99. I bought another 8gb stick of ram and a 1tb nvme. I hooked it up to my gaming monitor to see how many fps i could get and on high settings i averaged 122fps playing Destiny 2. Running from just the laptop it caps at 60fps. It is a budget gaming laptop and it was better than i thought it would be for the price i paid. I would definitely recommend it to someone who is on a budget and wants to game on PC. I would recommend getting a 2nd stick of ram, if you go with the same kind already in it, it’ll cost you about $35.

I’ve been using it for a month now and I haven’t faced any problems expect the fact the speakers are under the laptop (I think). You can run variety of games which includes: Fortnite, GTA V, Watch Dogs and many others. You will get an amazing experience. I read that some people complain about the keyboard being mushy. Well, I haven’t really had any problems with that. It is fine and I definitely love it. I would definitely buy this if your looking for a budget gaming and which can handle multi-tasks.

A 1650 GTX is almost the same thing as 1050 GTX, so that’s one but the rest of it, it a nice gaming laptop! It can run almost every game 1080 P with 60 FPS at high-medium settings depending on the game. Overwatch? Ultra settings at 60-80 FPS at matches, run smoothly! Modern warfare is a bit tight but you can always upgrade its ram! You can definitely run Valorant and CSGO very smoothly on high/ultra settings as well. Overall, a great budget laptop for anyone that’s not into spending too much on a PC

This laptop is a great price for mobile gaming. It has enough power to work on the go. When plugged into AC, enough power to play modern AAA games at 1080p medium settings.

Ive used this laptop for CSGO, Destiny 2, Valorant and Live Streaming! This laptop can do alot of things. For a laptop, its going above and beyond my expectations. And its upgradable. Add extra ram cards and sdd to it and its price still matches the same as other laptops. Ive done my research, and this laptop as a base will be a great starter. if you upgrade then it will be as good as the other intermediates over-priced laptops because the price is in the specs and brand name. Choose wisely

I was looking for a “budget” gamer with dedicated graphics. I ran across this Nitro 5. I watch reviews online as a norm to see what others had to chime in on. The only minus is the backlit keyboard light times out 30 seconds after the last keystroke. I didn’t find this to be a deal breaker. I play POE and Wolcen with no issues. I did add a second ddr4 2.66 MHz sodimm to push it to 16gb (personal choice). $45 from an online source as Covid had all stores closed. 2 Thumbs up!

It was good for the first few months and then the fans started getting super loud and the battery life started to SUCK I only used it for school and sims 4, it was really good with mods and cc- the storage got up and I moved everything to my D drive last year. now I just don't know about it. Might have to upgrade it or get an external harddrive.

When I buy a laptop it has to last me 6 to 7 years. I do a lot of research to make sure I’m getting the best that I can get for the price I can afford. This Acer Nitro laptop has 4gb of video memory which I needed to be able to work on videos in Adobe Premiere Pro quickly. It’s 9th generation Intel, so it’s the newest model. I purchased and installed an extra 8gb of RAM to help with my video editing. Everything responds super fast and there’s room to upgrade the memory and hard drives when necessary.

For the price, this laptop packs a punch! I've been out of the PC arena for some time, and the site did a great job of laying out the specs on the laptop, without me having to dig very deep. I did my own research on what I wanted and this fit everything I was looking for and then some! If you are looking to get in the entry level of gaming for a price that fits the budget, but still delivers performance, this is the way to go!

I've been using this computer for work training sessions, online schooling for my kiddos, and occasional gaming.
It was easy to set up and works well for what I need it for. I have it hooked into an additional monitor and it's been working well so far.
The screen has been glitching off and on when I don't have it plugged into a power source. It's annoying, but doesn't destroy or distort any information I have open on the screen.

Red on Black?

This laptop is amazing and disappointing but mostly amazing.
For about $8 you can take the disappointment out of the laptop. While the hardware impresses me to no end, the design of the laptop has me asking "Why?". Rather than just go with praise early on, I am going to explain my issue with the design. Whoever came up with the idea that red light, with red key writing on black background should be strung up and whipped with wet noodles. You can not see the key caps with the backlight off and the bleed around the edges of the keys is bright enough you can not read the keys with the backlight on.
Now, to fix this issue, you can search the web and other sites for Nitro 5 keyboard stickers or keyboard cover. Make sure you pay attention to the key layout and the model number, they have images to verify the key placement for the keyboard cover. I went with white letters that really stick out on the black background of the key. Who would have thought of that color arrangement? The other option is a connected keyboard, which I had been using my mechanical until my keyboard cover arrived.
Honestly almost any color but red would have worked well. Yellow, Green, White, Light Blue would have all been far superior to the red on black. The only color worse would have been black on black. Rather than making a rash decision on the color, just open up the spectrum and let the user choose. So many keyboards have adjustable colors for the keys, why not bring those LED lights to the laptop?
OK, enough complaining.
Performance wise this thing is a beast. While you may not be playing on a 4k screen nor have touch screen, the 1080p on a laptop is perfect for desired speed and battery life. If you are using the Nvidia GPU, your battery life will drop considerably. But overall the battery life was much better than I was expecting. Running solely on the Intel graphics I got in excess of 8 hours and up to 10 hours on a full charge. When swapping over to Nvidia and using that predominantly (I forced it in the Nvidia settings), the battery dropped below 6 hours. On average I would expect to exceed the 7 hours advertised, because the odds of using the Nvidia only and using it hard for 7 hours straight is probably pretty slim. The i5 processor is 9th gen and really helps with the battery utilization and is powerful enough to drive most games combined with the Nvidia graphics.
Heat dissipation is done really well as long as you do not block the vents on the side. I have yet to feel the laptop get hot.
Memory wise, 8gb system and 4gb video can handle most games on the market today.
You have a dedicated HDMI, headphone, three USB ports (2 USB Type 3 and 1 USB type 2) and one USB type C port. There is also a Ethernet port for wired gaming. The power brick is the normal Acer power. I have not tried charging from USB C, and likely will not attempt to keep the port available. Just a reminder, this is not touch screen, but why would you want fingerprints and Cheetos dust on your gaming screen anyhow?
Video card performance from the GTX 1650 will give max frames on Rocket League at highest video settings. For games like Paradise City Remastered I had to force Nvidia in the Nvidia control panel, otherwise I was getting a blank screen from the Intel GPU. The difference between the original Paradise City and the Remastered is stunning on this screen with the Nvidia graphics. Overall, everything I have tried, except the keyboard, has run quite smooth. Keep in mind, this won't be at desktop performance, but on a laptop this is quite impressive.
Trackpad works really well, but is useless for gaming. Until vendors put the touchpad to the side to allow WASD and touchpad, you will need a mouse. Even then, I feel a touchpad on a gaming laptop is only needed until you set up your mouse.
Surprisingly there is very little in the lines of preloaded apps. Norton, Office and Acer enhancements are all I really noticed.
Outside of the keyboard, you would be hard pressed to find a better portable gaming solution than this laptop. With a small investment the experience is much better.
BTW, the keyboard cover is worth the investment just to protect the innards of the laptop. This will protect from crumbs and spills. It is washable and reusable.
If you are looking for a gaming laptop on the affordable side, this is a great option. Check it out in store if you are looking for a gaming laptop and you will walk out with one in hand...if you can get past the red on black keyboard.

I am typing this review using the laptop. If you are wanting to use this for new games, then I would say find a better system. If you are wanting to use this system for a business laptop, then this would be great. It has a good backup drive, which is plenty of size for most everyday usage. The OS drive is perfectly matched for this system. Graphics on it is great for everyday standard use, or lighter weight games.

I love this laptop. I've had it for almost a year and it holds up. I can play every game on this. There are games I thought I'd never be able to play and they all play. All FPS games play at 60 fps, high graphics and runs smooth. I did update my RAM to 16gb, highly recommend getting another memory card.
Totally worth the money. One of the best investments I've made. I use it almost everyday.

was a little hesitant to buy a budget gaming laptop, but so far I have been blasting through everything I needed to play this year. Fallen Order, Doom Eternal, 60fps at 1080p solid. can even output Doom with HDR in 4k to my TV which is a surprise! Even handles Cyberpunk, albeit on medium setting at 720p, but hey. Great product, haven't had a single issue and upgrades were simple.
