I may be evaluating this unit unfairly. I'm guessing a lot of the problems stem from the incredibly incompetent job the Geek Squad did when installing the unit but I can only go by the results. I had this unit installed in my 2003 Element. My Android phone disconnects constantly. The setup menu does not allow clock adjustments (anymore). The installer left a toggle switch hanging by the wires between two body panels. This was also his approach for the USB connection. I've had pretty good luck with the Geek Squad in the past but this install was a complete disaster.

Nice looking unit but will not work for older vehicles that don’t have electronically controlled parking brakes without buying an aftermarket adapter that tricks the unit. Also steering wheel controls will not work without the same unit that tricks the parking brake even with a proper adapter. This is a horrible design flaw in my option on Alpines part. I returned mine and bought a Sony that works flawlessly by grounding the parking brake input.

I'll start with the positive: This unit is very sharp looking when installed. The buttons are easy to use and the touchscreen is also very responsive and easy to navigate. The Alpine I was expecting is not what I received. Alpine, years ago, was the best you could get and the reason why I chose it. That said, it is very basic. There are minimal customization options regarding the screen. The screen froze on me several times. Unfortunately, you cannot customize the illumination color to match specific vehicle dash lighting. Bluetooth calling, or calling via Apple CarPlay, left a lot to be desired. The output volume of the caller you're speaking with is extremely weak. I've received annoying audible feedback so loud it caused me to pull over, turn the truck off, and restart the vehicle to clear the noise. The noise itself was at max volume and I was unable to turn it down without restarting the truck... this is dangerous depending on the road you're traveling on. Summary: Look elsewhere. There are better options out there that give you the ability to customize to your liking. This seems like a rush production model that was given the "It's good enough to sell" stamp simply because it's an Alpine.

Installing on my kia forte took longer thwn anticipated by the bestbuy techs . My OEM dashcam didnt work with this unit. Also, people complain of volume on my mic no matter what I do.

You can't connect to CarPlay without physically plugging the phone in, and you have to use the emergency brake to adjust the settings? I was really excited about this unit but it was a letdown. I can't even write a verified review because the order was placed over the phone and never credited to my account. I'm not even sure I'll get the points. Just a bad experience. The install was great.

Not worth the money can’t used it when it’s running

This sound quality of this unit is totally unacceptable. The adjustments do nothing to improve it. When receiving a phone call from a cell phone the calling party would experience severe echoing. This was tried by having several people call and each instance the problem was the same. BB personnel tried changing out the microphone but no help. Another radio was installed(same model) and exactly the same problem. Obviously a problem with this model. The radio was replaced with Kenwood model and there is no comparison. The Kenwood works perfectly.

Overall a solid unit. The issue is with iPhone 11 compatibility. This is apparently a known issue. I spoke with Alpine, they blamed Apple. Phone call quality is terrible using an iPhone 11. It works over Bluetooth, but that defeats the purpose of CarPlay. I have tested with multiple older iPhone models, and was successfully able to make calls. I have also spent an hour or two troubleshooting, new cables, new mic and device resets. No luck. So, if you have a current model iPhone (11), stay away from this head unit.
