A terrible clock and a poor media device.

This was my first Show. I picked this size as a bedside alarm, music, and podcast player. First as a clock it stinks. You can set times to avoid ads so at least when you wake you can see the clock but most of the time it's worthless ads and suggestions and a tiny, tiny clock in the corner. Second as an Echo it's not so great either. Its sensitivity to a wake word is TERRIBLE. As a speaker not even as good as a Dot. As a Podcast player it does not allow you to choose a season or episode, just plays the latest even from Amazon Music. This replaced a Lenovo Google Assistant device that did every single one of these things far better. Really I didn't get a 5" screen to watch videos so that doesn't offset the things it needs to do well daily.

It handles every task I give to it and more. I can't wait to purchase another one . It pairs well with all of my Echo Dots.

I haven't been able to use it because it required an email address. I'm not even sure what it does, because I couldn't get past the part where they asked for email. It wouldn't start without an email address, so I never even got to try it. They should let you use these things, and Roku's, which I also had a problem with, without email. Maybe I'll try it in the future and update, but, for now, it's 1 star. Again, should be able to use without email address.

You need an Amazon account to use Alexa and set up your Echo Show 5 if you don't already have one. The Amazon account is free and you do NOT need a prime membership to do so. Once you create a free Amazon account or if you already have one, follow these steps to set up your Echo Show 5. Follow the on-screen prompts to: 1. Select a language. 2. Connect to your Wi-Fi network. 3. Log into your Amazon account. 4. Confirm your time zone. 5. Confirm your address. 6. Confirm the location of your device. 7. Choose a name for your device. 8. Choose a wallpaper for your device. 9. Follow the on-screen steps to review your available offers. When you see the home screen with rotating pages, your device is ready to use. The reason you need to use an email through an Amazon account is to access the features this device gives you. Some examples are: Set alarms and timers, check your calendar or the news, make video calls with the 2 MP camera, and stream music or shows - all with your voice. Screen even darkens automatically when lights are turned off in room so not to disrupt your sleep. Already buying another one for another room.

Responsive, entertaining, and helpful. Alexa is learning a lot of new skills, and the voice control has surprisingly useful.

The echo 5 had more features so it was a no-brainer. Very easy to set up and love it so far.

Make sure you're using the power adapter that was included with your device.
Make sure you have an active internet connection.
Check that your device isn't muted. The light indicator is red when your device is muted.
For devices without a screen: press the Action button to see if your Echo device responds.
To make sure that Alexa hears you, move your device away from walls, other speakers, or background noise.
Speak naturally and clearly.
Rephrase your question or make it more specific. For example, there are many cities around the world called "Paris." If you want to know the weather in Paris, France, say, "What's the weather like in Paris, France?"
Try saying, "Did you hear me?"
Unplug your device and then plug it back in. If this information does not help, you can reach Amazon Customer service 24/7 for assistance. You can reach them at 1-888-280-4331. I hope this information helps, thank you.

I have a few of them around the house, it makes my life a lot easier and the setup for rotating pictures is a plus. Great as an Intercome around the house and music while in different rooms. Love it!
