Help to reminder her of important dates and play her favorite music just by her talking to it, not to mention she can drop inn on me or any other family member show anytime.

Lots of devices can be run by Alexa. Have no real issues. You will need the app to work with the box during setup and adding peripheral devices

We are constantly working to improve upon our products and services from feedback like yours to provide the best customer experience. I am happy to hear that you are enjoying your device so far. One thing you can do to limit content that you do not want to see on your device's home screen is to swipe down from the top and navigate to Settings>Home Content and then toggle on or off any categories you would like or not like to see anymore. You can also go to your Display settings or Notification settings and customize those options as well. These are just a few tips you could try to hopefully improve upon your experience some. This is definitely not the experience we want you to have with an Echo product.
The issues you're describing—persistent lag and glitches despite factory resets—suggest there may be a deeper hardware or software problem with your specific unit. While the Echo Show 5 is designed to be much more than a clock with photos, I completely understand your frustration when the device isn't performing its smart features reliably.
Here are a few additional steps that might help if you haven't tried them already:
Check for system updates in Settings > Device Options > System Updates
Verify your Wi-Fi connection strength and consider moving the device closer to your router
Ensure your router firmware is up to date as network issues can cause significant lag
However, given that you've already performed multiple factory resets without resolution, I strongly recommend contacting Amazon Customer Service at 1-888-280-4331 or through your Amazon account. They can run diagnostics on your device and likely arrange a replacement, as this level of persistent performance issues on a new device isn't normal and suggests a defective unit.
