Great blend of new and old
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Animal Crossing New Leaf is the definitive entry in the series, and a must own on the platform. This series has a charm that is hard to quantify, and game play that is strangely captivating The series took a misstep with City Folk bringing you out of the village, and removing the special visitors that helped make each day exciting. New Leaf solves this problem with the new main street and ability to be Mayor. Never before has the player been so engrossed in the life of his fellow villagers. The laid back freedom in Animal Crossing has always been a selling point, but the added depth and purpose has enriched game play. Each new villager and public works project becomes a hard earned triumph and a sense of pride for the town. Each villager has a unique personality, and this version is as well written as ever. Small touches and gestures really sell the villagers as neighbors, and help bring the atmosphere to life. The game play also helped by the new variety that has been added. The new island (no GBA cable needed this time!) has tours (mini games) that help test your skills and are a nice distraction with prizes. The new ability to swim is also a nice edition. The multi-player has also been upgraded which much appreciated. My only complaint is the lack of Microphone support which should be standard at this point. The graphics in New Leaf are superior to City Folk with much more detailed objects and environments. The scrolling world from Wild World is back and looks impressive in 3d. The 3d here adds to the experience without being distracting. It wont sell you on the systems capabilities like Super Mario 3d Land, but you wont turn it off. It is hard to review a game that takes a year to complete after only having a short time to play. The best test of all is will be playing this 365 days from now? The answer like this game is a definitive yes.

Not what I thought it'd be
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this along with a 2DS in order to get Pokemon for free. I played it for about an hour and had no desire to keep playing. Not a game that I enjoyed.

Addicting and Fun
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have enjoyed the game series since the gamecube version came out in 2002. I was not disappointed in the new one when it released either. I put it away for a couple months and would come back to it, then found myself yet again addicted, playing whenever I had free time. I would recommend this to a lot of people. I do wish there was some more I could do but I did not realize how much I did not discover yet. A bonus is the being able to play with friends and visit each others towns, make it fun and more interesting and gives you more to do.

Relaxing casual game, great for creative types
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Animal Crossing may seem like a simple casual game with no objective, but the depth and breath of things to do really sets this game apart from simpler mobile games. AC may not have a 'story' per se, but the funny, quirky dialog with your town's residents and the steady growth of your town make it really feel alive. What really gives this game its longevity is the great amount of customization. Not only can you dress up your avatar, but also draw your own custom clothing and go about interior decorating your house (the list of furniture is endless!). You can dedicate yourself to re-landscaping the entire town which will keep you busy for quite a while. On top of that there's a decent amount of minigames as well as 'sidequests' of sorts (expanding the museum, becoming a barista, etc). AC also makes interesting use of multiplayer, beyond visiting your friends towns: streetpassing allows you to buy other players' furniture, visiting random towns via the dream suite, and using QR codes to share custom designs.

One of the best reasons to own a 3DS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I first played Animal Crossing on the Wii with AC: City Folk; at first I was hesitant about a game with no clear objective (besides maybe paying off your home loan to Tom Nook), but I quickly became addicted. I spent at least an hour a day for over a year (though often quite a bit more), doing small tasks like catching fish or insects, talking to my animal neighbors, or enjoying a holiday festivity. With AC: New Leaf, everything I loved about the previous game has been improved upon and plenty of new things have been added to collect or do. I really enjoy the ability to complete public works projects as mayor to get new bridges or benches put up, or create an ordinance that allows shops to stay open later. Daily tasks like collecting fruit to sell or watering flowers are now easier thanks to being able to combine pieces of fruit in your inventory and flowers now sparkling after watering so you don't have to water them multiple times. The addition of the island and its fun games and diving for sea creatures are lots of fun as well. And of course, all of your old favorite randomly generated neighbors and plenty of fun new ones are there as well. If there are some flaws with the game, I'd say that having it on the 3DS makes letter writing and typing more difficult, especially frustrating given that there is no longer voice chat during multiplayer. Also, your closet space in the game seems a bit more limited which is a bit frustrating, but only another minor gripe. I would say Animal Crossing isn't for everyone, but if you are like I was and am not sure about a game with no clear objective, I would encourage you to try it out, and you may just become as addicted to your own little town as I am to mine.

A wonderful addition to the series
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.New Leaf is a great addition to the Animal Crossing series. It doesn't change the fundamental gameplay of the previous games; you still catch fish and bugs and dig up fossils and make friends with the animal villagers in your town, and you still wrack up enormous amounts of debt to Tom Nook for upgrading your house. But New Leaf also adds in a bit of a twist in that you're now the mayor of your town, and you can choose to build 'Public Works Projects' to improve your town in various ways. You can fill your town up with as many additions, like benches, fountains, and more bridges, as you can fit in your town, or your can ignore it completely and play the game like any other. It's entirely up to you, and it's a nice addition to the classic gameplay that also gives you something to spend all your Bells on once you've fully upgraded your house, as well as a way to further customize your town.

Surprisingly addicting
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this game. I found myself talking to villagers, planting, watering flowers, fishing, hunting bugs, expanding the town and my home. The fact that the game is synced to real life seasons, holidays and time of day is great. I've experienced meteor showers, Northern lights, New Year celebrations, and snow. I can't wait to see what events are available for each holiday.

Great fun with friends.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While it may be missing the fun minigames the Gamecube version offered, New Leaf more than makes up for it with online play. Visiting friend's towns is a ton of fun. You can even do a lot of activities together!

Animal Crossing 3DS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My daughter wanted a Nintendo 3DS and this was her first game that she wanted. She did not like the 3D functionality, you can slide that to off. But the characters, gameplay, graphics and fun that she has playing it is worth it. She says its better than the previous DS one. Next one will be Zelda remake of Link to the Past. 5 stars
