Must for electronics!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having used several APC UPS in the past and present I can say this unit is very simple to setup and hookup while still giving you the basic surge protection and battery backup you may need. All of my other UPS are much larger than this unit with a screen with information displayed however this unit has just one button which turns green when powered on and blinks when on battery mode. It features seven plugs all together including five battery backup/surge and two surge only. One feature I felt was very nice is a wall mount right on the back of the unit itself. Being fairly small and compact it surely could be mounted up out of the way which is something I have not seen on any other UPS so far. This unit also features a 1.5a USB port which is great for charging phones or other devices however I did wish it had a USB Type-C port that its larger brothers have. Depending on the draw this unit is rated from 30 minutes to hours of run time on battery power. Again this unit is not like its larger brothers which allow hours of run time but for the price and size it is a very good sweet spot for those looking to protect their pricey electronic equipment! Although a very simple unit the 600VA Battery Back still provides the basic needs to power routers/PC's/or anything with a plug/USB for a short time when you have no power. I would highly recommend this unit!

Nice compact UPS unit.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been using APC products for 25+ years now and they are the only UPS product I recommended and still do. I really like this newer design, it doesn’t take up as much room as the older squattier design and with all the outlets on one side it’s easy to push this up against the wall and keep it out of the way. After unpacking you will have to connect the internal battery before use, there are plenty of warning labels stuck to the outside of the unit warning about this. It’s a simple process, just flip the unit over, slide open the battery compartment door, take out the battery and attach the red wire to the positive terminal of the battery. You will probably see a spark once the end of the cable touches the battery terminal, that’s normal. Once attached, put the battery back, put the cover back on and you are ready use. This one is rated at 330W max so you will want to keep the combined power rating of all devices attached below this number. This model has 5 battery backup plugs, 2 surge protection plugs, and even has a USB charging port providing 1.5a. I haven’t had any problems charging any of the devices I hooked up to it, be it my cell phone, Bluetooth headphones, tablets, or anything else that accepts USB charging. It also has a USB port “cable included”, so you can connect it to your computer and use the PowerChute Personal software “downloadable on the APC website”. With it you can monitor your UPS unit and the software can also shut down your computer/laptop before the battery drains. We get a lot of power flickers here in MS during storms and with these I know my devices won’t be shutting off all of a sudden which is harmful to electronics. I have more than one of these APC units around the house and this particular size is perfect for putting small computer, TV, modem, router, or anything that doesn’t draw a lot of power. I have one hooked up to 16gallon reef tank just in case of a short term power outage. It provides at least 30 minutes of power, to keep the water / air pumps and heater running. I do keep the lights on the surge protection plug so they don’t drain the battery too fast. For any possible outages longer than 30 minutes I have other solutions available. I also have another unit hooked up to my 3D printer, it will let it continue printing for at least 10-15 minutes, after an outage, “I haven’t had a power outage longer than 15 min lately so I’m not sure exactly how long it will last while the printer is running”, this at least provides enough time for the power to come back on, or for me to pause the printing so I don’t ruin a print job due to a sudden power loss. This is another great APC product if you are looking for a good UPS unit that isn’t too expensive and can be used for many different things I’d take a look at this unit.

Does What It Promises Easily
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This APC backup unit is flawless in setup (easy) and functionality. It is more compact than previous units that could connect a similar number of devices. There are four outlets offering backup and surge protection and three offering “only” surge protection. The design is thoughtful and recognizes that some devices require connecting “block” converters directly into the backup unit. Spacing is very good between outlets. I did not test the claimed times for backing up different types of devices, but I did simulate a power failure and there was sufficient power after five minutes for me to calmly shut down a desktop computer and three printers. As a bonus, APC has thoughtfully included a port for connecting USB devices for direct charging. Finally, I applaud the sturdy but minimalist packaging, almost all of which can be recycled. In sum, a great unit for maintaining temporary power.

Simple set-up and very easy to use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is currently powering my cable modem and wifi router. We had a power-outage over the past weekend due to storms, and we still had internet access for our phones/laptops! The only minor issue that I had was that I didn't find the instructions very clear on how to connect the battery inside when first setting up. It really is a matter of opening the bottom, pulling out the battery to have the full length of wire available to connect, connecting said wire, and putting the battery back in. This isn't something that you'll actually be utilizing on a regular basis (hopefully), but it's nice to know it is there when you do need it.

Keeps you going when the power goes out
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most of us probably take power for granted. I know I do. We only really realize just how much we rely on it when the power goes out. Then it’s panic time, since we lose our internet, we can’t charge our cell phones and our computers simply don’t work without power. And the same goes for other things like desk lamps and any other thing we plug into an outlet. That’s when the APC Back-UPS BE600M1 shines. It can power up to seven devices at the same time and keep them running for up to eight hours. However, larger brick plugs can take up two of those spots, depending on how you plug things in. The software that you have to download (more on that later) will show you the amount of time that you can continue to charge your plugged-in devices. Obviously, the more devices you plug in, the less time you’ll be able to continue providing power to those devices. I got a reading of six hours when I plugged in my most important devices (my modem and router plus a lamp) When I added my laptop, it dropped to less than three hours. Obviously, my laptop is an energy hog, so I decided not to plug that into the UPS since it has its own battery which is always fully-charged when I’m using it at home. Another nice feature (a USB plug) allows you to charge your cell phones. So, for me, being able to keep my internet going and my cell phones charged, plus a light to see, combined with my laptop running on its own battery power, provides me with my most important needs and gives me the maximum amount of time. Hopefully the power will be restored before the UPS battery gives out. The only problem I encountered was finding the software after downloading and installing it. Thee was no link on my desktop nor any indication where it was hiding. I finally found that it was inserted on my task bar, but with a large number of items already on my task bar, the newly-installed program was not visible. It would be nice if the instructions told you where to look after downloading and installing the software. Normally, you expect to see a link on your desktop, so that’s a fix I’d like to see. I’m subtracting one star for that frustrating problem. Here’s hoping we don’t have any power outages, but living in Florida where we get tropical storms with high winds which can cause power outages, I’m now prepared when they do happen.

Poor cell coverage? This is a must.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you live on WiFi calling in your house because of bad cell phone coverage, this is a must for any sort of emergency situation. Keeping your router and modem up in a power outage will keep your WiFi calling up. APC is a solid brand in this field and this Back-UPS is perfect for that task. The setup out of the box requires attaching a wire to the battery, but other than that... it basically functions as a taller surge protector (yes, this also has built-in surge protection). The outlets are spaced similarly to a standard surge protector, the weight is not too bad. While there are any number of use-cases for a battery backup system, this particular setup is good for keeping your internet up and running in inclement weather (and, potentially keeping your phone charged, although there are better devices for that). There's extra software that gives you some cool insights into your power usage and also how the UPS is working, but it's not necessary out of the box. Overall, a very cool, compact system to keep your family connected (and safer!)

Does the Job
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We don't get major power outages much where I live (watch, now we'll get a ton this winter). What we do get a lot of, especially due to squirrels, is flickering outages, you know those one second outages that make the lights flicker and is just enough to shut down your modem? This is what I got it for and so far, it is working great for that. During our storm two days ago, while the lights kept flickering, there was no break in internet usage as the modem didn't go down at all. That ticked the box for me. An added bonus, at least in my eyes, is that the outlets are set so the size of the plug doesn't matter, it is not covered by one that takes the space of two of them so I don't have to puzzle out how to place things so more than two items fit the strip. I'm very pleased with the job it is doing.

Handy!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With 7 power outlets and a USB port, this power supply will enable your low power appliances to run for 4.3 hours all the way to 10 mins depending on what you have plugged in. This one I have is rated at 67 minutes for an entry level PC. 5 of the outlets are for power backup and 2 are just surge protection. One thing to consider is that it comes with a 3 year warranty on the unit and battery and $75,000 lifetime connected equipment protection. Last but not least, it comes with a dedicated USB port to plug to your protected computer so in the event of an outage, the recommended software will ensure your information is safe on your computer. It's not just a battery backup, it's more than that and I think that's what makes it stand out. I recommend it!

Very good UPS, small footprint
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the size -- both physical and battery (backup potential) -- this is a great UPS. With 7 outlets (5 on battery backup & surge, 2 surge only) plus a USB charger and power management software/cable, this has the ability to save a lot of expensive equipment from damage and allow for a safe shutdown in the event of a power loss. I have never been a fan of the power management software, but I also hadn't used it for home applications before. It has come a long way over the years. We shall see if/when I run into a power concern at home how it stacks up. For most home computer systems, this would be just perfect. The problem comes in with the older, large block plugs taking up too much space, even with the gaps allowed for on the unit. Definitely recommended for moderate usage. Would love to have another for my home theater system, but will go with the 1350VA unit for that.

Great Home UPS - I love these.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Full disclosure: I received a BE600M1 in exchange for a timely and honest review. I have been using APC UPS products for literally decades. (And I use the word literally the correct way). I have always trusted and liked APC power products. I bought a lot of them professionally as well when I was a CIO for 20 years. I was very excited out this new line of UPS first introduced by APC several years ago. I wanted a lighter weight product with a longer run time for specific applications where I had small network devices that were not backed up by a generator. The original model I purchased was white and only had two prong outlets. It was good, but the latest versions of this product are GREAT. These have three prong outlets. I can set the alarms in three different ways, including silent! Also, the power sensitivity can be set without a computer, so the UPS can be more “forgiving” of imperfect power. The unit can be mounted on a wall if needed. I often do this in closets. Though the outlets are spaced, sometimes the power adapters for devices have “bricks” that are oriented the wrong way or they interfere with wall mounting, so you may need to buy some of those little 12” power cords to plug some adapter in without the constraints of the outlet spacing. I use these in network closets, behind TVs to protect various TV, computer, security and audio components and to keep my equipment running until my generator starts up. Overall, I find these very useful.

Plug in and forget
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nothing difficult about this one. Just attach the removable battery and use it just like any other power strip. I use mine to make sure my wifi, security cameras, and smart home hub stay on at all times, even during power outages orbrown outs. The 600va is plenty to keep those devices running for several hours during power outages. The APC has 5 sockets that act as battery backup and surge protector and an additional two sockets that are surge protector only. I was able to fit all of my devices in the battery backup after rearranging. But, even then I still ended up blocking one socket, making it unusable. That is really my only complaint about this battery backup. If you have odd shaped or long plugs, you will end up blocking one or two. But, this is really a problem with every power strip not just this one. The APC also features a USB port to back up unsaved documents on a PC if the power goes out. I don't have a tower PC so I didn't have a chance to use this. It sounds useful but, it only works on Windows. No Mac support. Overall great battery backup. It was easy to hide away in a cabinet, does it's job and I don't have to think about it.

Solid little UPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Plenty of plugs for all your gizmos and gadgets, as well as a USB port. Just be aware, with APC UPSes, they do not plug the battery in for you, they supply the battery, but it is disconnected, you will need to connect it yourself, and it makes a little spark with the terminals are connected. Besides that, a solid unit

Great Backup for Keeping Home Office Online
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The APC - Back-UPS 600VA Battery Back-Up System is a great unit to keep your home office online during electrical outages. I hooked up my router, modem, computer, monitor, and printer to the device. When I cut power (via breaker) the back-up device kicked in immediately and I was able to continue work. Great solution to keep you productive during power outages or if you frequently experience power spikes.

Intro UPS for Home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Single battery, small footprint UPS. The time chart on box is accurate. I have 3 devices on the battery ports, which cuts the usable battery time to 10 minutes. The devices are a desktop, internet router, and switch between the two. This would be a great product for a home with constant power blips as it at least regulates the voltage. The USB port for charging a small device off battery is nice. With nothing else plugged into the battery this could be used to charge a phone several times during an extended power outage. Although it is designed for regulation and uninterrupted power, it would almost be better as an accessory for this purpose of storm/season prep.

Good basic unit, getting software was a pain
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is APC's bare bones, bottom of the line backup. It's little more than a battery inside a plastic case. No bells and whistles. No display of any kind on the case. Just a green led behind the power button, which flashes if unplugged. The only "extras," if you want to call them that, are a 1.5 AMP USB port for directly charging phones and tablets and a USB out connection to your PC, so it can talk with the backup and tell you charging state and level (Windows 10) If that's all you want or need, you are good to go. Otherwise, look elsewhere. As for the specifics of the build, it's a 600-watt system with 5 outlets that have battery power and two more that are just surge protected. (Be aware the battery is NOT connected when you receive it. You MUST remove the cover and connect the red terminal to battery before using.) How long the backup will last depends entirely on what you plug into it. Minutes for heavy drains like desktop or gaming PCs. Many hours for low drain routers, cable modems and wireless hubs. If you can manage to find and successfully download and install APC's free PowerChute software -- more on that later -- you can get a more detailed read on what's going on with the backup system. A status page shows charging levels, keeps track of power outages, shows you how much power all your plugged in devices draw and provides an estimate of how long the battery power will last if the power goes off. On my setup, with a relatively high end desktop PC, monitor, cable modem and wi-fi router, that was about 40 minutes. It also informed me I am using about 15 cents a day to power those device and for those who continuously fret about global warming, generating 1.5 pounds a day in CO2 from power plant emissions. This is an admittedly handy piece of software but getting it required a lot of effort. It is NOT included with retail package. You must first go to the APC Web site and find it (easiest way is to use the search box) and then attempt to download it. On my first attempt, it kept requesting an FTP name and password for some reason. So no software. But persistance paid off and it finally downloaded for reasons that were not entirely clear. Installing it produced some other error messages when the install program attempted to connect back to the web site. My computer said the the web site was unsafe and refused to connect. So was the program installed? Hard to tell. Where was it? No desktop link. Not in the list of programs under PowerChute. Finally I discover it hidden in my system tray. It should not be this hard folks. A lot of work to be done here to improve this process. (I later found it was in the list of programs under APC) I have used APCs products in the past and they generally work well. So I assume the same will be true here. Its just a battery folks so not much to go wrong. But won't know for sure until I actually experience some outages and surges. APC recommends replacing the battery every three years. The software will keep track of that for you. Bottom line: The basic battery backup unit is bare bones but fine. The process for getting and installing the software needs work.

The green-lit LED lets everyone know it’s powered on, and red-LED and alarm signal lets you know it’s running on the backup battery. Be aware this battery only run on the battery 30-45 minutes after loss of power, depending on what’s plugged into the backup plugs (this device also has surge-only outlets).
