The computer itself is great for light use but you will often encounter the rainbow wheel when you have more than a couple of apps running. This is partly due to only 4GB of RAM and partly due to the mechanical hard drive that is still being used in this model (as well as the entry level iMac) which is much slower in comparison to, say, a Macbook Air which has flash storage. I would spend the extra money to get a Mac mini (or even an iMac or Macbook Air) with a fusion drive or flash storage. At $500 I would not say it is worth it for this (2014) model, even though technically it is the newest Mac mini as of this review.

We were tired of always having to take our PC to get the viruses cleaned out of it, even though we had anti-virus, so we decided to go Apple. My daughter and I both have a Mac Air and we love them. So easy to plug into our existing monitor and keyboard. Connected easily to our WiFi too. Won't go back to PC.

I recently purchased this mac mini, and I have to say I am very impressed, the 4th gen core i5 that it comes with is faster than I expected and the 4GB of RAM seems to be enough for what I am going to be using this for. Very happy with this purchase.

If you already have a big hdtv that has hdmi, then the Mac mini is perfect for you. Just purchase the keyboard and mice and you are ready to go

Don't confuse this little box for a bare bones Mac. The Mac Mini has some serious computing power. It's more than capable of doing most tasks. Plus you get the Mac OS which is stable and dependable. All this at a great price point. The Mac Mini is perfect for those looking to get into a Mac at a reasonable price or even experienced Mac users looking for a small Mac setup.

So I finally decided to ditch windows and get a Mac. Not having thousands of dollars to shell out for a new computer the Mac mini was a great option for me. I wasn't concerned about the memory not being upgradable because I probrably would never upgrade it anyway since my primary usage is school work. So far I love everything about the Mac experience

My family and I love Apple products so we knew from the start that we were going to love the Mac mini. We purchased the Mac mini for our daughter to do school work and she's in love. It's quick and easy to set up, nice and light and potable if needed.

Great machine that is capable of handling your home entertainment center with ease if you like technology. Smiles....

Replaced an old PC. Great for basic computing needs if you already have a screen, keyboard, mouse, etc... Great price and easy to set up. Connects with all my other Apple devices easily and makes basic computing a breeze.

Very excellent computer Perfect for streaming and working

Since the speed was slow so I wanted to upgrade the ram but realized Apple no longer lets you do that. Apple needs to bring back that feature. This is not a phone that they need to make it lighter or compacter every year. People can live with an extra pound on this Mac mini

I am really REALLY hoping that the mini we received today is just a lemon and not typical. This is by far the slowest system I have witnessed. Currently, the chromebook I am using has the same RAM, but much slower processor and works SIGNIFICANTLY faster and much more efficiently. At first we just thought it was the start up process, but not the case. We timed the actions we were asking the mini to complete - 1 minute and 17 seconds to open safari. Over 90 seconds to open settings. Forget having both opened at once. We were not looking for anything fancy, just a basic computer for basic home use. However, this mini is reminiscent of the early 2000s Apple iMacs. It is not usable and will be going back to the store asap.

I'm so happy with this computer. I show it off to anyone that comes to visit.

Mac mini i5 (2016 purchased) model is very slow. Boot time is also very slow. It takes much longer to boot than most PC. Microsoft office (Mac version) takes almost 1 minute to boot (word, excel). Do not buy this computer. Best buy has lots of computer options at great prices. go with PCs! Apple no longer makes great computers!

Great desktop computer because of its small footprint and I was able to use a monitor I already had. I plan to add a second monitor. A little slow on startup from Off, quicker with Sleep mode.

As an pro Apple guy I enjoy using there products. The warranties are good and the products are solid. It is a misconception that you have to be a genius to work with Apple.

This is a good but not great choice for a home desktop computer. It's too bad Apple doesn't offer a quad core mac mini anymore.

My grandson loves his mini. It is a wonderful product!! He is using it for many things and really likes the way it functions.

Great machine to put in an office for a Mac user. The user is always on their phone and iPad so this adds to that.

do yourself a favor and purchase the 2012 models. memory is soldered into the computer and dual core lol. what a joke
