Just OK but hopefully will improve with updates
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I already had an Arlo Pro, Arlo Pro 2, and and Arlo Q which I was very happy with. When the doorbell was released it seemed like a nice option since I already had an Arlo Pro 2 right by the door. Setup was very easy. I don't have a hardwired doorbell so I skipped that part but I did get the Arlo Chime. Once it was set up it pretty much works as advertised with some annoying user interface and design problems. Hopefully these can be fixed with updates to the firmware and to the Arlo app. Here are the things that are pretty annoying: 1. The doorbell is in its own section in the app. This means you cannot use it for motion triggers for other smart home services or IFTTT, etc. Also the way you configure which camera it is associated with and what you want it to do when motion is detected is very different. 2. You cannot schedule the doorbell alerts like you can with the other cameras. Nor can you schedule the silent mode. You can turn do not disturb on and off but that is it. It would be much better if you could schedule that or at least have an option to set do not disturb for some length of time (like do not disturb for 1 hour). 3. You cannot disable the "To leave a message press the doorbell again" feature. This may be the most annoying thing. If you don't answer the call on your phone then it will play this. Most of the time if I am home and just walk up to answer the door then this message starts playing about the time I start talking to whoever is there. It is as if the designers of this assumed nobody would actually walk to the door to answer it. 4. The actually doorbell ring is pretty delayed. It is a few seconds before the chime rings and then several seconds until the phone(s) ring. 5. When answering it is quite slow to connect and bring up the camera. I'd say at least 5 seconds. This means from the time someone presses the doorbell to the time I have it up on my phone with the video (which only pops up about 75% of the time) it is typically close to 15 seconds or more. Many people won't hang around that long so they are often gone by the time I pull it up. 6. The batteries that came with the doorbell died after 2 weeks. These were Duracell OEM batteries and maybe they were just bad but it is not a good sign. The doorbell is not used that often and only triggers 3-4 motion alerts per day typically. Maybe the replacement batteries will be better, we'll see. I was very close to returning this but I've decided to wait it out and see if things get better with app and firmware updates. Most of the issues seem like things that can be fixed in software so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. That said, the Arlo app has had some pretty controversial UI changes lately (many of which were reverted due to customer feedback). Maybe I'm just a sucker for sunk costs though :).

If you have Arlo Cameras, Add the Doorbell!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We already have an Arlo Pro system, which we like. We have a camera outside facing towards our front door. We use this camera to screen who is approaching and ringing our doorbell as well as other security surveillance. But, audio calls are not really possible. This audio doorbell is perfect to complete the video feed. It was easy peasy to install. We were able to hook it up to our indoor chime. Your phone rings when the doorbell is pressed and the live video feed is also up on the screen at the same time. The call is in duplex and when you're done, you just hit "end". Lots of nice additional features. I'm hoping the batteries last as long as Netgear claims they will. We tried video doorbells in the past prior to installing the Arlo cameras, but they didn't work out in our location with our chime transformer and other issues with long lag times.

Horrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really hoping to use this to its full potential. However, there are so many things wrong with it. At the moment, I don't recommend anyone getting this until Arlo/Orbi/Netgear fixes it. Here's a quick list of why it’s disappointing: 1. Ridiculous long delay/lag from pressing the button to getting a "call" to your phone. Sometimes, I don’t even get a “call” at all! 2. The sound coming out of it is unbelievably low – sounds like a toy speaker. My nephew’s Speak and Spell is louder than this. 3. Not only is it low, the sound is also very choppy. It’s like the early days of cell phones when going through a tunnel. 4. Visitors can’t tell if they can leave a message – there’s no “leave a message after the beep”. Really? 5. Battery drains like crazy – Arlo says battery will last a year. Uh, I’ve only pressed it a couple of times to test it and the battery is already 95%! 6. The current software/app for it is HORRIBLE! Syncing took forever, so I ended up using the “sync” buttons on my base station and doorbell. There is no option to dial down the motion sensor, no option to turn off the doorbell light, and no option to turn the volume louder.
