I installed this doorbell for about 15 minutes before taking it down and putting it back in the box. Problem 1: Sleep Mode - The doorbell goes to sleep. Once it does that it doesn't pick up motion quickly enough to wake up the recognize its button is being pushed. So it ends up having to be pushed twice. How would a guest know to do that......? Problem 2: Voicemail - If no one answers the doorbell call, the doorbell asks them to leave a message by pushing the doorbell again. It's a pretty cool function, but you cannot turn it off. It needs an on/off switch for that function in the App. Problem 3: The doorbell is powered by batteries. It should be powered by the doorbell wires only unless you have a wireless digital chime or something. You can't sync the doorbell with your App without the batteries because of where the sync button is located. Hopefully Arlo fixes these issues on the Arlo Doorbell 2. IF IT'S EVER MADE.

    Not very functional

Purchase the Door Bell and chime to add to my 3 camera system. Worked for about a month then started to have difficulties. Battery ran down quickly. Had to replace battery and sync. Arlo Door Bell has the same problems as the other devices. Delay in response to action. Push the door bell and it takes about 5-10 seconds to ring the wireless chime. I assume its sends the signal to the cloud and back to the chime. How about using a blue tooth connection to activate the wireless chime? Avoid the cloud for the chime activation. At least you would known that someone is at the door like a traditional door bell.. last week, Jan 9, the ARLO door bell went out of sync. In the past was able to recover with the APP. It went out again today. Went on line to get info on syncing again using a factory reset this time. The reference to the sync button on the door bell to factory reset does not have a picture or description of the sync button location. You have to guess where the sync button is located. Very poor documentation. I know the trend is to use few words in documentation, but if that is the case show a picture. I am old guy who programmed and documented systems back in the day. You avoid a lot of complaints with proper documentation. Arlo is a half baked product with little field testing or customer insight. No review for the practicalities of the product. The cameras are good. The reliance on Battery is dumb since you have to remove the camera and charge the battery. In some cases it makes sense but hooking to an AC power source makes more sense for traditional installation. All three of our cameras are plugged in to chargers. I would hook up a chime with 12 volts if I had it and not rely on the batteries for the doorbell. I am not going to connect a transformer for this product. I am contemplating returning the Arlo door bell because of it short comings.

    Decent Product

My first impression wasn't amazing because upon unboxing the unit it was fairly scratched up. It was definitely still factory sealed so maybe something got loose in box during transportation. The unit was also struggling to pair to my base station (30min of trying and research). Much more difficult than the arlo cameras. Actual use: I also purchased the chime which sounds like a piece of garbage but thats not the purpose of this review. The delay is 2 seconds when phone is on when on same network and 4 seconds on cellular before i get notification which seems reasonable to me. The voice through the bell is a little quiet but should be enough for an average level of sound. I'll update my review when i get a chance to use it more.

I'll do "bad" and "good" here (always end on a positive). Bad: Requires Arlo pro hub. Nowhere on the Bestbuy.com listing does it mention this. That means the hub has to be near the doorbell. Calls don't always go through. No way to initiate a call with the doorbell from mobile. It calls YOU. Accidentally pressed the "ignore" button a few times taking my phone out, so that's problematic. Despite having 20mbps upload speed, audio was quite choppy. When combined with video from my arlo pro, it was worse. When synced with Arlo Pro camera, they're badly out of sync - video is a few seconds delayed from audio. Battery life is "so so". I don't expect this to last two weeks at this rate. Can only trigger one device when motion is detected. What if I want to activate an Arlo Light AND a camera? For me the killers were the hub need and no ability to initiate calls to doorbell from mobile. Now for the good: Surprisingly low-priced, especially for an Arlo product. Novel idea - ditch the built-in camera, just go with audio. Uses less bandwidth than a video doorbell... Because no video. The "leave a message" feature is awesome, now if only I could figure out how to access the audio recordings! Really compact. Looks a bit like the Nest Hello. Easy to replace alkaline batteries... Not sure if I'd prefer a lithium battery, but at least I'm not forced into using an Arlo-compatible micro USB cable. So yeah, lots of good and bad. Great for someone who doesn't need a video doorbell, though you're kinda forced into it by having to have a hub. 3 stars, it's good. Not great, but good.

Rather wait for Arlo Doorbell version 2

The Arlo Doorbell got plenty of positive reviews when it first launched and I thought it was the perfect compliment to my Arlo system. Unfortunately the doorbell fails for the following reasons: 1) The software is buggy despite many Arlo updates...Ex) the phone fails to consistently call my two phones that have been set up. I am a mobile expert and set all the proper permissions and have the latest SW on my devices but to no avail; 2) The delay when someone rings the doorbell to when you can communicate is too long as the person is already turned around and leaving and can't hear you; 3) The Arlo doorbell itself does not have any give when you press the button. I see people having to press the doorbell plenty of times to make sure they rang it; 4) I still would like a head on view of the person at the door. I have other side views but in the days of package thieves you want to have a clear image to share. My 30 days is nearly up with Best Buy so I am taking my Arlo Doorbell back and either wait for Arlo Doorbell 2 or pick up a Ring Doorbell.

Audio output on Doorbell is extremely low

Great concept but I have two suggestions, one is critical, other is a would be nice feature: (1) Audio from Doorbell is too low and sounds muffled. This is a serious symptom that needs to be fixed. I will try it for a bit (under return period) but hopefully a software push may help a little. (2) To minimize delay, it would be nice if an option for the Arlo app to immediately pop up with video/audio when Doorbell is pressed instead of receiving a phone call.

Could never get it to work

I was very excited about this product because i wanted to pair it with cameras. The first mistake I made was I assumed the doorbell was also a camera. That is on me because I didn't read closely enough. Not sure why it doesn't as all of the other similar products do. Instructions on installing were simple enough however I could never get the doorbell to actually ring the doorbell. I went out and bought a new digital unit thinking my old doorbell wasn't compatible. Still didn't work. I did disconnect the doorbell and tried to just use the phone functionality. It is terrible and inconsistent. The speaker and microphone are horrible. You can't hear the person outside and the person outside has to stick their ear practically on the unit to hear. Huge disappointment. Hopefully they can fix in the next generation.

I have 5 Arlo pro cameras and was excited to pair the doorbell with my front porch camera. The doorbell installed and paired easily, it called my phone and audio/ video worked. But I could never get it to ring my indoor mechanical doorbell. I connected the wires, set switch to 2, even tried 1 and 3... no sound. I touched a copper jumper to the inside of the arlo doorbell where my wiring was connected and my doorbell worked, so I know my wiring is correct. I read forums and support and found that this is a common issue that some people have managed to resolve in the app by turning features on and off, but the option to turn on the traditional chime never appeared for me even after uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting multiple times. The software is buggy and clearly not ready for prime time. I still love my Arlo cameras, I may try the doorbell again when they release the next version. Of course Best Buy is amazing and gave me a full refund.

I bought this only because I have an Arlo camera system and wanted a doorbell that didn't have to be hard wired. Despite very strong wifi near the doorbell, the device disconnects itself every couple of months and needs to be removed to resync it to the Arlo Base. The batteries do not fit in the compartment snugly and fall out when you remove the cover. In addition the Arlo chime disconnects itself from the doorbell periodically and resyncing it is a hit or miss proposition. Stay away from anything Arlo. Overated garbage. I wish Nest made a wireless doorbell since their cameras are awesome and much better than Arlo.

    DON'T BUY IT!!

Looks like the company rushed to built this and delivery few weeks before Black Friday. Has lots of flaws... 1. It take anywhere from 15 to 35 seconds from someone ringing the bell and getting a call on your cellphone, before you can start talking to them. 2. The video loading after you accept the call pretty much doesn't load up at all. 3. If you connect to existing in house chime of your old door bell, it makes this humming noise. I googled and found out alot are having this problem and Arlo is saying go buy our chime to resolve the problem. I did update all the firmware and tried different poistions/settings, nothing worked. Horrible design. 4. Quality of plastic/material looks very poor. This product is embarrassment to Netgear, i am sure they can do better.

This is a great set. However, you MUST purchase the base station. I was informed by a representative that I did not need the base and that is FALSE.

I've had this doorbell for 2 months now. The past few weeks it starting getting out of sync , when this happens you have to remove it from your app, resync it and then reset your settings. This is an annoying issue that support cant seem to figure out.

First off, I never write reviews. I am writing a review of this product to express my unhappiness with this product. More so, my unhappiness with customer support at Netgear. The doorbell, when connected will not ring my existing home chime. After spending over 3 hours on the phone with customer support and asking them to replace the item. All they can say is we are going to escalate the issue to the next level. What does that mean? I'm stuck here with a non-working item while you figure your product out? My recommendation is don't get this product until this issue is fixed.

Very spotty success ringing my phone when the doorbell button is pressed. Worked fine with my chime, tried every troubleshooting trick out there but only rang my phone randomly about 10% of the time. Without that, what's the point?

Cannot Connect to the Base Station

I recently purchased an Arlo Pro 2 three camera system and have that up and running. I decided to add on the Arlo doorbell. One of the first steps after putting in the batteries is to go the app and add the device to the base station. After several attempts and trying to get help at the Arlo site for technical support, the pairing of my base station to this doorbell device will not work. And without the pairing, it is worthless.

Arlo has updated their software and these doorbells no longer work. They are no longer compatible with smart home systems and they can no longer ring your phone. All they can do take a recorded message for later which makes this the most useless doorbell ever made. Arlo products are notoriously bad and this is no exception.
