Chime did not work most of the time and had major delays. I even increased my internet speed hoping that would resolved the issue.

Doesn't support scheduling on/off time (e.g., don't chime at night), so basically useless.

We had to return the chime as we could NOT get the doorbell set up. Too many glitches and settings that had to be changed on our iPhones. Too bad as we really like the clear images we’ve seen on Arlo.

The design and implementation of this is an example of good marketing but extremely poor implementation. Outside of the chime feature, the other flagship feature for this is the built-in siren. As a siren though you need to purchase a cameras which is going to cost at least $150. Making this $200 for any sort of real security and still plagued with things that don’t make sense. If you have an apartment, you may be lucky enough to get away with one camera if there’s one way in/out of your unit and you’re not on a ground floor. If not, you’re likely going to have to purchase a system which is going to make this sky rocket in cost and you’d likely want multiple chimes as well. The reason for the multiple chimes would be if the siren is triggered and you only have one chime, it’s easy to follow the sound to the source and all you have to do to thwart this system is unplug the chime. There’s no built-in battery. There’s nothing that secures this to an outlet — it just plugs right on in like a Glade. And just like a Glade it can slide right on back out too. In my mind, if you have multiple units that can triggered off the same motion detection event, you may be able to better deter someone because they’re likely not going to stick around and try to go up multiple floors or go thru multiple rooms with sirens going off all over the place because the noise would draw too much attention and it would take too much time. The app allows you to create rules for events - i.e. motion and then to choose what devices do what. Think basic computer coding in an if/then format. So if doorbell sees motion, then trigger siren on chimes 1, 2 and 3 — which the website states you can pair unlimited Chimes but I haven’t setup more than one yet (I did purchase multiples for previously-mentioned reason). Other reasons the implementation is poor - a lot of the remaining cameras in the ecosystem are wireless with wired options. Options being the operative word meaning it’ll cost you extra to make it wired. Similarly, it will cost you extra to buy extra batteries and cradles to avoid having times when your cameras are down because you’re charging batteries. Either way the camera cost is a base price with a higher “out the door” price likely attached to it. The only upside to these versus the older wired versions of the camera is that if the cameras are unplugged the battery would kick in as a backup and you still have recorded evidence and a way to trigger sirens as motion is detected (depending on how you set this up). It would have been smarter to add a battery backup feature to these Chimes and/or a motion sensor where they can still be part of the ecosystem but not have such a high barrier for entry to be effective. The other thing I feel you have to point out is the support, which for these is terrible. Arlo’s website is a nightmare for finding answers. Hyperlinks that take you to webpages that have been removed which loops you around to the support page and information is years old and not updated recently. When you try to chat with someone, agents chat with support links instead of listening and answering the question like hey how do I customize the siren sound they just paste link after link and when you say oh that’s not what I mean they’re like oh sorry and once you clarify - new link for you to go thru. The two stars are for the app, which I’m very familiar with having owned Arlo cameras in the past and it has some great features like being able to automatically change the mode of the camera from armed/disarmed based on whether you’re at home or not and more often than not this works very well and eliminates false alerts or your inbox/notifications being spammed with alerts. From a basic level it also does work as advertised with some caveats - like it’s seemingly advertised that there’s a way to set different melodies for different types of alerts but the app only supports selecting one melody per doorbell/chime. I will also say I appreciate the option for wired/wireless (on the doorbell) for apartment dwellers.

Set-up was very time consuming! The code on the back of the Chime 2 Doorbell would not scan after multiple attempts!! Eventually. I talked with a tech support person which I was unable to do after many useless prior hours of my trying to set-up! Tech support told me what to do after I was able to establish contact. (Initially, I couldn’t get through to tech support via telephone). Then, there was an impasse with the Wi-fi password. Tech support provided resolution to this problem. Eventually, the Chime 2 was set-up. Fortunately, the same tech support stayed with me on phone to help through the process..
