Easy install, good build quality, no free storage
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The physical installation of the Arlo Video Doorbell was very easy. I’ve installed several video doorbells over the last few years and the Arlo was the easiest by far. I like how after charging the battery you can perform some of the setup prior to even getting tools out to start mounting it outside. There really are no installation instructions included in the box, just a rudimentary getting started guide to verify the contents along with a QR code to scan for downloading the app. I have to say that the app does a pretty good job of guiding you through the installation process though. Creating an account in the app and getting the doorbell device online and available in the app was also a relatively smooth process. Troubles began when trying to add my wife to the account via the add person feature in the app. After not receiving an email on the first try along with the extremely short duration (a minute and a half I think) of the invitation before expiration we finally got her an account created after several tries. After that the app did not show any devices and it seemed would have to go through the entire doorbell setup again just for her to see it in her app, which seemed to defeat the purpose of adding a person to an existing account. So, I signed myself into her app so that she could access the feed and get notifications. That was fine until the next day when I realized that I was not getting notifications on my app because when signing in on her phone it logged me out of the app on my phone. Then we logged back into her app with her account and magically the doorbell device now showed up for her and I was then able to log back into my app. The app is generally ok and seems to be tailored for their security suite of products. For just a video doorbell it might be a little overkill. For example, on the home dashboard, I am not sure what arm home, arm away, and standby mean in the context of only having a video doorbell. It’s not really clear if applicable or not for my doorbell or what they do. The camera, even though this model is 2K resolution it provides a really good clear picture in the app. With the product came a trial subscription to the single camera secure plan. According to what I’ve found on the Arlo website if I choose not to pay $5 a month for this plan there is no video storage at all and only basic notifications. Since there is no on device storage that means I would only get live feeds from the camera. Other doorbell camera products I have looked at will at least give you a small amount of storage for free, unfortunately not with this one which I consider a drawback.

Camera with bells and whistles, needs improvement
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A video doorbell meets two needs simultaneously. It needs to notify you when someone is at the door as well as recording what’s going on outside your house. Arlo’s doorbell does a much better job than most at notifying you of visitors. It’s not as good as others about recording without a subscription. As a doorbell, Arlo really hit it on the nose. Pressing the button starts a “call” from the doorbell to your phone. More than a notification, it keeps ringing until you answer or silence it. Answering gives you a live view of the door. You can use one of the canned answers (i.e. “We’re not interested.”) or speak live to your visitor. Sound quality from the door is fairly good. If you’re close to the door (within 25 feet), there’s a bit of feedback. I hope Arlo is able to fix that in a future firmware update. It’s not a big deal as most of the time I’m that close, I’ll just go to the door directly. Unfortunately, the “call” won’t let you use your bluetooth headset. You have to use the speakerphone for the call. It would be nice to have flexibility in case I wasn’t in a situation where I want to use speakerphone. The doorbell integrates nicely with Amazon and Google. Pressing the button causes chimes to sound on each device around my house, once they were linked. I even programmed it to pause the TV to really get my attention! I wasn't able to set up the two way audio with my Fire TV Cube. That only works on my phone. Installation was pretty straightforward. It comes with some extension wires in case your doorbell wiring is shorter than typical. The wire nuts are small enough to fit behind the doorbell bracket. The bracket causes the doorbell and camera to tilt slightly towards the door. This helps ensure each video captures your visitor perfectly. The camera is a wide angle, picking up the entire person even if they’re tall. It’s high enough resolution for the street to still look good, despite the wide angle. Recording is all in the cloud. A trial subscription is included for 30 days. Arlo sells a home base with a local recording option, but this 2nd generation video doorbell doesn’t support the home base yet. Picture quality is very good both during the day and at night. Night views are augmented by infrared LEDs illuminating the immediate area. Overall, Arlo delivers the bells and whistles you want at your front door. A few points off for execution in areas I hope can be addressed in the future.

Arlo review
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo camera has been a fantastic addition to my home security system. From the moment I opened the box, the setup was quick and easy, even for someone who isn’t overly tech-savvy. The video quality is outstanding, offering clear visuals both during the day and at night with its excellent night vision. I love the motion detection feature, which provides timely and reliable alerts directly to my phone. After a bit of fine-tuning, it’s been incredibly accurate, giving me peace of mind whether I’m at home or away. The battery life is impressive, lasting well over a month on a full charge, and the ability to integrate it seamlessly with Alexa has been a huge plus. The app is user-friendly and makes accessing live feeds or reviewing footage very convenient. While the cloud storage subscription adds extra value, I also appreciate the local storage option for flexibility. It’s clear that Arlo prioritizes user experience with this product. I highly recommend the Arlo camera to anyone seeking a dependable, high-quality security solution. It’s worth every penny for the peace of mind it provides.

Full-Featured, Easy-to-Use, and Solidly Built
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Video doorbells have become a much-needed, if not essential, part of living in the world of Amazon purchases (our go-to store), meal deliveries (one of these days), heightened security concerns, and the need to juggle welcoming guests when away from home. Although I’ve had a number of security cams set up in different locations, including the front porch area, this is my first video doorbell. The Arlo - Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) has been a great step up. The Arlo - Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell has full-features and is solidly built. I was surprised at its weight, which added to the sense of a well-built product. Installation and set-up were both wonderfully easy. First thing is to unpack the unit, charge it, and get the ‘Arlo Secure’ app for your smartphone. Once charged, use the included tool to push the pairing button, pair with your bluetooth and then use the app to complete the set-up process. All easy to understand and follow. It was up and running right away. Note that this model can work with batteries or can be set up for direct power. The Arlo video doorbell comes with a 3-month free trial subscription to their monitoring service. It includes 30 days of cloud recording. I am still in the trial period, however it’s my understanding that, if you do not renew the subscription, you still have up to 7 days to save recordings on your phone or computer. The Arlo gives me almost immediate notice when someone comes to the door (motion detection). When they push the doorbell it rings on my phone no matter where I am. I can look and see who is there (live) and have a conversation if needed. Videos initiated by motion or ringing the doorbell are saved on my phone for review. Helpful for seeing activity. Currently I have it ‘armed’, so I get a notice of anyone leaving, as well as coming into, the home. I recommend the Arlo - Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) - Wired/Battery Operated with 2K Resolution.

Great addition to Arlo Eco System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As someone who typically avoids installing anything at home, I was pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of the Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell, 2nd Generation. The installation process was surprisingly straightforward. The app guided me through each step. I had to drill through the stucco which is hard than I thought. Put anchors in which im not use to but I got it done. The 2K resolution provides clear video quality, allowing me to see who's at the door without any pixelation issues. The motion detection feature is a nice touch. The notifications on my phone were prompt. Depending on your internet connection its about a 3 to 4 delay. The two way audio is good enough from both sides. My only reservation is connection to my google home network. I have speakers setup around my house it was a little annoying trying to setup automations. Getting the speakers to say “someone at the door” requires the person to press the doorbell twice. Which I still haven’t figure out why. Anyways, he Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell, is an excellent addition to home security for someone like me, who prefers simplicity over complexity. While it may not convert me into a full-blown tech enthusiast. I recommend it to anyone with an Arlo network system.

Great value Smart Wi-Fi video doorbell
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo 2nd Generation Wi-Fi doorbell camera is very easy to install. I previously had a different brand that was harder to install as it required extra wiring at the actual doorbell. The Arlo did not require anything additional to wire it up. The mechanical installation was super easy. Just remove your existing doorbell button or old doorbell camera if you have one and attach the doorbell camera mount. I charged the doorbell camera overnight, so it had a good charge to start with. Mine didn’t have a charge when it arrived, so I would plan to charge it before installing it. It was a minor delay, but no big deal. After the mount is ready, you can set it up using the app directions, they take you through the install steps one step at a time. I have an iPhone and already have an old Arlo app. It prompted me to download the new app. Once I had the new app everything went very smoothly. When you finish mounting the doorbell camera, it snaps into place. It does require a bit of force, but then it locks into place. It is very secure. I really like the look of the doorbell camera. It seems very well made. It feels very solid in your hand. Not cheap plastic like others I’ve seen. When someone presses the video doorbell button, the doorbell ringer inside the house will ring immediately, but there is a delay before your smartphone will ring. It will ring your phone like a call coming through. You can choose to answer it or ignore it. If you answer it, you can see who is ringing your doorbell and speak to them. I found very little delay when speaking to someone through the doorbell app. The 2K image is great both day and night. It has a very wide-angle lens so you can see quite a bit in the field of view. When pulling up the camera from my iPhone, I was able to get a live image in less than 10 seconds. Often about 6 seconds. I have used other Arlo products and have never been disappointed in them before. I think this is a great doorbell camera and great value at this price point. I would highly recommend this doorbell camera.

Solid but not as good as I was hoping for
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My Arlo Smart Camera is the best wireless camera I’ve tried. Making me very excited to try their doorbell as I expected the same level of excellence. Unfortunately, it has been a mixed bag for me. UNIQUE FEATURE: This has a unique feature I haven’t seen before. Where if someone presses the button on the doorbell it will place a call tp my cell phone as if it were from a phone number but from Arlo Doorbell. Upon answering, you are Immediately setup with a two-way call. Which is neat. I think this is a cool concept but doesn’t work for me as I’m often at work where I’m not able to answer a phone call. Audio quality is acceptable. I found as the caller (the person who pressed the doorbell) that the person talking can be a bit quiet and there is a good amount of delay. Making me ask “what” a lot or wanting to walk away as I’m not sure if they are still talking. Whereas the person being called (the person with the doorbell) can hear just fine. But my voice tends to be louder than theirs as the echo is real. I do have a good connection and high-speed internet so I’m not sure what is causing the delay. Last, you can have it setup to give automated responses. Which comes across as a bit of a robotically human sounding voice. Which is clear and gets the job done. NOTIFICATIONS: Since people rarely ring the bell anymore and instead just leave the package, I’ve come to rely heavily on notifications to alert me. Thankfully, this works well on this device. Where it always captured someone from a medium distance. But I’ve found that the “rich” notifications are poor. Meaning it is supposed to tell you person, movement, animal, package, vehicle. I only ever get “person”. Which is a big letdown as my actual camera from them did the extremely well and would often catch the wildlife around my house. I was hopeful this doorbell would do the same. But alas it does not. Even though I have had packages delivered, walked dogs, had dog friends over, cats on the porch, etc. that it should have captured easily. Last, this doesn’t come included with a chime (sold separately or need to attach to the one in your home already). Which means other members of the household don’t know if someone rang the bell. PICTURE QUALITY: Picture Quality whether it be night or day is solid. It’s not mind blowing. I can easily make out everything and peoples faces. There is some compression and artifacting of my grass. Getting to a live view varies from 5 – 13 seconds at 2k resolution. It has a wide view which means I can see my entire porch (and yard) easily along with the entire ground so I can see if a package is there or not. Along with a lot to the left and right in case someone was there hiding. No real complaints here. APP: The app went through a new update. I think it is a mixed bag. Where there are a ton of features. Part of it is intuitive, easy to navigate, and gives you the information you want easily. While other parts are cumbersome, difficult, and overwhelming. To fully understand it I’d need to sit down for some time and go through everything. Which for some people is a plus, for others, not so much. Also, some settings require you to go online to change (such as memberships). Which I don’t like. However, I love that you can view your camera and/or doorbell online on a PC. Which I haven’t seen from competitors. Which I like a lot. Membership price per month seems high for what you get. BUILD QUALITY: When approaching the doorbell you will see the light ring around the button light up. It is an attractive looking doorbell as well. Setup was extremely easy. I was up and running in like 15 minutes including install time. It appears to be made up of quality plastics. I noticed no creaking or issues when handling. From the exceedingly limited time I’ve had it the battery life seems to be acceptable. CONCLUSION: I like this product, but it isn’t as good as I hoped. It has a lot of great features. But I’m frustrated with the AI not picking up things correctly, especially the wildlife. Also, compared to the competition the monthly price seems high. I’d also like the option to switch to a notification that someone was ringing my door instead of a call for my scenario. Maybe it is in the settings somewhere that I missed. Which would be my other complaint. Is that while I think the new updated app is nice. I think it could be a bit more user friendly and intuitive.

Good Video Doorbell
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo - Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) - Wired/Battery Operated with 2K Resolution is a good smart doorbell at the very least. It's form factor is sleek and modern and does not look out of place when installed in place of my old doorbell. It has a glossy black piano finish on the front giving it a brand new look and accented with a white trim. There is the camera lens on the upper portion of the video doorbell and the button is on the bottom half of the doorbell. One neat feature of the button is when it detects people coming up to the door the lighted ring around the button pulsates as to guide people where to press who are not familiar with these types of devices. Before installation I had to charge the doorbell and update the firmware, where I ran into my first issue the doorbell gave me an error stating it could not finish updating after waiting 30-40 minutes which was a little frustrating but I reset it and tried again and the second time around it worked. The actual installation process was fairly simple, turn off power to existing doorbell, remove old doorbell, install the mounting plate for the Arlo doorbell, wired it to my existing doorbell and snapped the Arlo doorbell into place. Although I wired it to my existing wiring my existing doorbell chime would not ring after fiddling with the app and checking Arlo's forums I concluded that my doorbell transformer was not comparable with the Arlo doorbell and not giving off the correct current that was needed to make my existing chime work and trickle charge my Arlo's battery. Now Arlo does offer a WiFi chime for purchase to fix this issue but it is expensive at $50 but that still doesn't solve my issue with the charging aspect. I can still get notifications on my phone with the app which works good but could be better. Which brings me to the subscription service. Arlo offers 3 paid subscription plans secure, secure plus and safe & secure pro ranging from $5 to $25 a month. I am on a 1 month trial right now to see how it goes and if I decide to keep this device I would probably go with the secure plan for 1 camera that starts at $5/month. Camera quality is good and is what you would expect for a device like this. It's motion sensing is also good and I get notifications from delivery drivers to cars that pass by on the street (you can adjust sensitivity and zones) I live on a quiet street so the occasional car that passes by is not a bother. The audio could be a little better but lets be real it's just a doorbell I don't think anyone is expecting a HiFi sound system. I do think it's a good video doorbell and the starting subscription price of $5/month is not bad for 1 camera and would recommended it if you could deal with upgrading your transformer or buying an extra chime. If your existing transformer works then go for it.

Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell (2nd Generation)
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I just received my Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) Wired/Battery with 2K Resolution a week ago and have been putting it through its paces. I have used and come to love other Arlo products so I’m going in with a bit of confidence that I’ll no doubt love this product as well. For me Arlo has always been easy to use with little to no complications. As you start unboxing, you’ll see: * Arlo Video Doorbell 2K (2nd Generation) & Mounting Plate * Angled Mounting Plate * Security Latch Release Pin * Screw Kit * USB-A to USB-C Charging Cable * Wire Extension Kit * Quick Start Guide Now before you get started, there's a couple of things that are recommended before installation. First off, one of the unique features I love about this particular video doorbell, is the fact that it can be installed either wireless (using the preinstalled battery) or hard-wired (using existing wires or the recommended wires included in the box). If you plan on installing the Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell using the battery, make sure its fully charged before installation. However, if you'd like to hard-wire the Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell using your home's electricity, then you'll need to first figure out which electrical line your doorbell is running on. Now this process could take some time depending on whether or not your breaker box is properly labeled. For me I had to go through this process through trial and error, however, being that I had previously installed another video doorbell camera on my front door, I know that my doorbell line runs on my basement/garage line. Now once you have either charged up the battery on the video doorbell camera, or figured out which line its connected to, you're ready for installation. To install, simply go to the App Store for iOS or Google Play Store for Android and download the "Arlo Secure: Home" companion app. Once downloaded, follow along with the on device instructions. Sign-In/Create an account, Add Device via Bluetooth, Connect to Wi-Fi, and Scan for Firmware Updates. And that's it. Over the last week or so, we have been very impressed with the Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell. The 2K resolution is amazing, especially coming from a 720p camera. Sound was also crystal clear. We can also see a wider view of field with the Arlo versus our other camera. Night vision so far has been pretty good. There are a number of features that are included in the app, but be aware Arlo does sorta push to sign up for their plan with a free trial period to get other features. So far we love our new doorbell camera, though we haven't signed up for a plan yet. With an easy installation and easy to follow guide, you can't go wrong with this product.

Easy to install, wired or wireless

This is fine, since the doorbell is useless without the app anyways. Arlo's app is very easy to follow when setting up the doorbell, but my experience is slightly different since I've been using Arlo cameras for a few years now and just needed to add this doorbell to my existing setup. When pairing the doorbell in the app, you'll need to connect it to your home WiFi network, but it will only work on the 2.4GHz band. What the app doesn't tell you is that AFTER the setup process is over, you can go back into the device settings and connect it to your 5GHz network. I'd highly recommend switching networks if you live near other people, as the 2.4 band can get quite crowded. == DAILY USE == I like that I get notifications when someone/something approaches the door, but I've noticed something very annoying: the device can't tell the difference between people and cars. Whenever my kids leave for school, or someone walks their dog on the sidewalk, I'll get a notification that a car has pulled up to the house. When someone presses the doorbell button, you get an alert on your phone (I'm using an iPhone) very similar to a phone call. You can accept and enable audio if you need to speak with the person (maybe you're busy and can't come to the door), or you can just treat it as a traditional doorbell and physically go over to your door. == OTHER DETAILS == Arlo rates their doorbell to work in temps as low as -4 Fahrenheit, while I can't verify that right now, I do live in Minnesota so I'll see if their claim is valid in a few weeks (I'm writing this on December 1st). This is my biggest concern as the doorbell is exposed to the elements, so hopefully it's not dead by February. Battery life is supposed to be anywhere from 3-6 months. I obviously can't test this right now, but at least the doorbell is easy to remove from the mount (using a pin ejection similar to the SIM eject tool with your cell phone) and uses USB-C for charging. == BOTTOM LINE == So far, I really like Arlo's new doorbell. If you're already using Arlo cameras, I highly recommend checking this out. If you don't have any existing Arlo products, I'd still recommend considering it when shopping for a new Wi-Fi doorbell.
