Solid but not as good as I was hoping for
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My Arlo Smart Camera is the best wireless camera I’ve tried. Making me very excited to try their doorbell as I expected the same level of excellence. Unfortunately, it has been a mixed bag for me. UNIQUE FEATURE: This has a unique feature I haven’t seen before. Where if someone presses the button on the doorbell it will place a call tp my cell phone as if it were from a phone number but from Arlo Doorbell. Upon answering, you are Immediately setup with a two-way call. Which is neat. I think this is a cool concept but doesn’t work for me as I’m often at work where I’m not able to answer a phone call. Audio quality is acceptable. I found as the caller (the person who pressed the doorbell) that the person talking can be a bit quiet and there is a good amount of delay. Making me ask “what” a lot or wanting to walk away as I’m not sure if they are still talking. Whereas the person being called (the person with the doorbell) can hear just fine. But my voice tends to be louder than theirs as the echo is real. I do have a good connection and high-speed internet so I’m not sure what is causing the delay. Last, you can have it setup to give automated responses. Which comes across as a bit of a robotically human sounding voice. Which is clear and gets the job done. NOTIFICATIONS: Since people rarely ring the bell anymore and instead just leave the package, I’ve come to rely heavily on notifications to alert me. Thankfully, this works well on this device. Where it always captured someone from a medium distance. But I’ve found that the “rich” notifications are poor. Meaning it is supposed to tell you person, movement, animal, package, vehicle. I only ever get “person”. Which is a big letdown as my actual camera from them did the extremely well and would often catch the wildlife around my house. I was hopeful this doorbell would do the same. But alas it does not. Even though I have had packages delivered, walked dogs, had dog friends over, cats on the porch, etc. that it should have captured easily. Last, this doesn’t come included with a chime (sold separately or need to attach to the one in your home already). Which means other members of the household don’t know if someone rang the bell. PICTURE QUALITY: Picture Quality whether it be night or day is solid. It’s not mind blowing. I can easily make out everything and peoples faces. There is some compression and artifacting of my grass. Getting to a live view varies from 5 – 13 seconds at 2k resolution. It has a wide view which means I can see my entire porch (and yard) easily along with the entire ground so I can see if a package is there or not. Along with a lot to the left and right in case someone was there hiding. No real complaints here. APP: The app went through a new update. I think it is a mixed bag. Where there are a ton of features. Part of it is intuitive, easy to navigate, and gives you the information you want easily. While other parts are cumbersome, difficult, and overwhelming. To fully understand it I’d need to sit down for some time and go through everything. Which for some people is a plus, for others, not so much. Also, some settings require you to go online to change (such as memberships). Which I don’t like. However, I love that you can view your camera and/or doorbell online on a PC. Which I haven’t seen from competitors. Which I like a lot. Membership price per month seems high for what you get. BUILD QUALITY: When approaching the doorbell you will see the light ring around the button light up. It is an attractive looking doorbell as well. Setup was extremely easy. I was up and running in like 15 minutes including install time. It appears to be made up of quality plastics. I noticed no creaking or issues when handling. From the exceedingly limited time I’ve had it the battery life seems to be acceptable. CONCLUSION: I like this product, but it isn’t as good as I hoped. It has a lot of great features. But I’m frustrated with the AI not picking up things correctly, especially the wildlife. Also, compared to the competition the monthly price seems high. I’d also like the option to switch to a notification that someone was ringing my door instead of a call for my scenario. Maybe it is in the settings somewhere that I missed. Which would be my other complaint. Is that while I think the new updated app is nice. I think it could be a bit more user friendly and intuitive.

Good Video Doorbell
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo - Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) - Wired/Battery Operated with 2K Resolution is a good smart doorbell at the very least. It's form factor is sleek and modern and does not look out of place when installed in place of my old doorbell. It has a glossy black piano finish on the front giving it a brand new look and accented with a white trim. There is the camera lens on the upper portion of the video doorbell and the button is on the bottom half of the doorbell. One neat feature of the button is when it detects people coming up to the door the lighted ring around the button pulsates as to guide people where to press who are not familiar with these types of devices. Before installation I had to charge the doorbell and update the firmware, where I ran into my first issue the doorbell gave me an error stating it could not finish updating after waiting 30-40 minutes which was a little frustrating but I reset it and tried again and the second time around it worked. The actual installation process was fairly simple, turn off power to existing doorbell, remove old doorbell, install the mounting plate for the Arlo doorbell, wired it to my existing doorbell and snapped the Arlo doorbell into place. Although I wired it to my existing wiring my existing doorbell chime would not ring after fiddling with the app and checking Arlo's forums I concluded that my doorbell transformer was not comparable with the Arlo doorbell and not giving off the correct current that was needed to make my existing chime work and trickle charge my Arlo's battery. Now Arlo does offer a WiFi chime for purchase to fix this issue but it is expensive at $50 but that still doesn't solve my issue with the charging aspect. I can still get notifications on my phone with the app which works good but could be better. Which brings me to the subscription service. Arlo offers 3 paid subscription plans secure, secure plus and safe & secure pro ranging from $5 to $25 a month. I am on a 1 month trial right now to see how it goes and if I decide to keep this device I would probably go with the secure plan for 1 camera that starts at $5/month. Camera quality is good and is what you would expect for a device like this. It's motion sensing is also good and I get notifications from delivery drivers to cars that pass by on the street (you can adjust sensitivity and zones) I live on a quiet street so the occasional car that passes by is not a bother. The audio could be a little better but lets be real it's just a doorbell I don't think anyone is expecting a HiFi sound system. I do think it's a good video doorbell and the starting subscription price of $5/month is not bad for 1 camera and would recommended it if you could deal with upgrading your transformer or buying an extra chime. If your existing transformer works then go for it.

Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell (2nd Generation)
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I just received my Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) Wired/Battery with 2K Resolution a week ago and have been putting it through its paces. I have used and come to love other Arlo products so I’m going in with a bit of confidence that I’ll no doubt love this product as well. For me Arlo has always been easy to use with little to no complications. As you start unboxing, you’ll see: * Arlo Video Doorbell 2K (2nd Generation) & Mounting Plate * Angled Mounting Plate * Security Latch Release Pin * Screw Kit * USB-A to USB-C Charging Cable * Wire Extension Kit * Quick Start Guide Now before you get started, there's a couple of things that are recommended before installation. First off, one of the unique features I love about this particular video doorbell, is the fact that it can be installed either wireless (using the preinstalled battery) or hard-wired (using existing wires or the recommended wires included in the box). If you plan on installing the Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell using the battery, make sure its fully charged before installation. However, if you'd like to hard-wire the Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell using your home's electricity, then you'll need to first figure out which electrical line your doorbell is running on. Now this process could take some time depending on whether or not your breaker box is properly labeled. For me I had to go through this process through trial and error, however, being that I had previously installed another video doorbell camera on my front door, I know that my doorbell line runs on my basement/garage line. Now once you have either charged up the battery on the video doorbell camera, or figured out which line its connected to, you're ready for installation. To install, simply go to the App Store for iOS or Google Play Store for Android and download the "Arlo Secure: Home" companion app. Once downloaded, follow along with the on device instructions. Sign-In/Create an account, Add Device via Bluetooth, Connect to Wi-Fi, and Scan for Firmware Updates. And that's it. Over the last week or so, we have been very impressed with the Arlo Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell. The 2K resolution is amazing, especially coming from a 720p camera. Sound was also crystal clear. We can also see a wider view of field with the Arlo versus our other camera. Night vision so far has been pretty good. There are a number of features that are included in the app, but be aware Arlo does sorta push to sign up for their plan with a free trial period to get other features. So far we love our new doorbell camera, though we haven't signed up for a plan yet. With an easy installation and easy to follow guide, you can't go wrong with this product.

Easy to install, wired or wireless
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PROS: - Easy to install (wired OR wireless) - Rechargeable battery (USB-C) - Decent night vision - Good resolution - Supports both 2.4 and 5GHz networks CONS: - Thinks people are "vehicles" == SETUP == There's a quick guide included in the box, but it's pretty much worthless since it directs you to use the app (the guide just shows what's included in the box and a QR code for the app). This is fine, since the doorbell is useless without the app anyways. Arlo's app is very easy to follow when setting up the doorbell, but my experience is slightly different since I've been using Arlo cameras for a few years now and just needed to add this doorbell to my existing setup. When pairing the doorbell in the app, you'll need to connect it to your home WiFi network, but it will only work on the 2.4GHz band. What the app doesn't tell you is that AFTER the setup process is over, you can go back into the device settings and connect it to your 5GHz network. I'd highly recommend switching networks if you live near other people, as the 2.4 band can get quite crowded. == DAILY USE == I like that I get notifications when someone/something approaches the door, but I've noticed something very annoying: the device can't tell the difference between people and cars. Whenever my kids leave for school, or someone walks their dog on the sidewalk, I'll get a notification that a car has pulled up to the house. When someone presses the doorbell button, you get an alert on your phone (I'm using an iPhone) very similar to a phone call. You can accept and enable audio if you need to speak with the person (maybe you're busy and can't come to the door), or you can just treat it as a traditional doorbell and physically go over to your door. == OTHER DETAILS == Arlo rates their doorbell to work in temps as low as -4 Fahrenheit, while I can't verify that right now, I do live in Minnesota so I'll see if their claim is valid in a few weeks (I'm writing this on December 1st). This is my biggest concern as the doorbell is exposed to the elements, so hopefully it's not dead by February. Battery life is supposed to be anywhere from 3-6 months. I obviously can't test this right now, but at least the doorbell is easy to remove from the mount (using a pin ejection similar to the SIM eject tool with your cell phone) and uses USB-C for charging. == BOTTOM LINE == So far, I really like Arlo's new doorbell. If you're already using Arlo cameras, I highly recommend checking this out. If you don't have any existing Arlo products, I'd still recommend considering it when shopping for a new Wi-Fi doorbell.

Worthwhile upgrade, app & device - NO MORE HUB!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Gen 2 of the Arlo doorbell provides quite a few nice upgrades over Gen 1: * NO MORE SMART HUB! YAY!! Arlo finally figured out people know how to manage their own wifi and you're no longer tied to the abysmal coverage of their "Smart" Hub. Now that I don't have to use it, the connection to my doorbell is rock-solid through my mesh network. This means no more "scrambled" pictures coming through like with Gen1 * Upgraded picture quality - 2k picture quality means you have a larger field of view than with Gen1 and can also see more detail. The doorbell, of course, is best used w/ Arlo's subscription which enables person/package recognition and is required if you get more than 3 Arlo devices up and running. Additionally w/ the Gen2 doorbell, Arlo refreshed their app tremendously. So far I am liking the ability to create a custom dashboard w/ my own "widgets" (cameras, etc.) of various sizes so I can see what I want to see at a quick glance. The other nice thing about the new Gen2 is it comes with Doorbell wire extensions - this was required for me as the wires to my doorbell are extremely brittle and I've barely any left after monkeying w/ the Gen1 doorbell more than a few times over the years. My only complaint with this doorbell is that upgrading over Gen1 means new holes in your house; they didn't make it fit the same footprint/hole template as Gen1. This is a bit of a miss in my opinion as there's really no reason the holes couldn't have been in the same place, despite needing a new, larger, mounting bracket.

Wired or Battery sealed the deal
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For some time now I’ve been wanting to get a video doorbell for our home but have been holding off as I generally dislike running cabling/wiring and I’m not an electrician so I prefer to not get shocked while playing with electrical wiring. However, this Arlo 2K video doorbell allowed me to install it the built in battery power until I could get a family member (my uncle) to come over and help me wire it up. That said since we already had a wired doorbell it was insanely easy to wire this up. I could have done it myself with how easy it was but again I don’t like playing with wiring, it’s why 99% of our home security equipment is wire-free (power) and wireless (network connectivity). But it’s seriously easy with just a couple of wires. The quality of the picture is super nice and I’m glad we have it because we can keep an eye on the packages being delivered at our home while we are away, plus we can screen who is at the door without having to go to the door or open the door. Due to the current state of affairs in the world today that is a welcome addition to our home security setup. I cannot say enough how easy it is to install, no matter which method you decide to use to install it and so setup is truly a breeze.

Loving the wireless option!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been wanting a smart doorbell to go along with my front-door camera that I already have installed, and I am happy to share that this Arlo Smart Doorbell has meet my needs and provided more features than I was expecting and will probably not use regularly. First, the unboxing and installation process was super easy. I decided to go with the wireless option and purchased the Arlo Chime 2 to pair it with. The pairing and installation was fast and smooth just as it should be. Arlo’s app and software is also very intuitive and easy to navigate. I already had an account so I just signed in and added this device to my list of devices and I was quickly seeing the video shown from the 2k camera in the doorbell. Features like the night vision and the 2k camera are essential to be able to see a clear picture. In addition, the 2-way audio feature is nice but I honestly don’t think I will be using this that much. I don’t foresee myself using this to communicate to people at my door. It’s cool that is there, but I feel like that’s just too much for me. If I am not home then I’m just not home, no need to speak to someone waiting at my door. I can’t speak to how long the battery lasts since I just recently installed it, but fingers crossed this thing will last more than a couple of months without needing to be charged again or else I’ll probably have to wire it in.

Good Option and a Good Price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great choice, especially if you already have an Arlo eco-system. In our situation, we have an investment property in North Charleston, South Carolina. We bought it since our son was going to be there in the U.S. Navy Nuke Engineer program. We figured he could live there while he is school (just three short months and he'll be done!) and then rent it out to future US Navy Nukes. That said, we already have a portable Arlo Smart Alrm system that can easily be installed in his next permanent station. Being a submarine volenteer (sub vol)the existing alarm and the doorbell camera will give us some ability monitor his next house/condo when he deploys. This is a great addition to that system. Installation is simple... Two wires and a screwdriver then mount it. Whole thing took less than five minutes. IMPORTANT NOTE: While we installed in a wired environment, this Arlo camera/doorbell does have a battery option allowing multiple options and environments. The video quality and build quality are good, especially for the price. End of the day, this offers a a very good optio in a relativelly robust system and a good price. I would (and have) reccomend to a friend.

Arlo is the best doorbell!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had a ring camera for almost 4 years. I recently had someone break into my car no more than 10 feet from my camera and it didn’t pick up anything. After losing everything that was in my car I got recommended the arlo so i figured id try it and it is working phenomenally! Crystal clear picture even at night i also love the fact that it tells me what is at the door not just motion so I know if it’s just my neighbors leaving or if it’s a actual person! If you are thinking about buying a security camera arlo is 100% the way to go 11/10 recommend

ai subject recognition is amazing!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off we know that none of the new smart technology in the world of security can be worth its weight without a good app backing it up. Well, of course this app is fully featured and was easy enough to setup. Since they make tons of other products if you get more than this doorbell it all shows up in the app for you to monitor, get alerts this even has ai features which is probably the best part for me. The ai features though are pretty awesome and the star of the show in my opinion. So it has the ability to detect a package, person, animal, vehicle and is amazingly accurate. You can setup a hotzone to detect from if your like me facing the road you obviously dont want to know every time someone walks their dog by your driveway or a car goes by so you can eliminate this fluff by making zones. It pretty much guides you right through doing it which is perfect. When an event occurs or the doorbell is rang you can answer it right from your phone on the app or go in and see beforehand whats going on and choose if you want to get onto the mic or talking mode to speak 2 way communication with whoever is there. The best part is it can be done from anywhere so even while im at work I can talk to a delivery person at the door which has proven invaluable for me. Of course there is plenty of cloud services on offer here with this product including many of the programs they can assist you with getting set up with a whole security suite. One of the best parts of this app integration is being able to share it with your family members so you may all check on elders in your family as a good example. Far as the doorbell itself goes it can run in battery mode or hard wired. Now I cant speak to battery mode because when I got mine I tried and the battery died in 10 mins so obviously these ship not charged. Though I was wiring it in to my chime anyway so it was a non issue and what I would recommend doing anyway so you dont have to mess around with removing a charging it all the time. The quality is good enough to zoom in on with the app and provide a clear picture and works just how you think it would which is perfect no need to figure anything out just pinch to zoom. Arlo is an excellent brand for home security and gets it right with the app and thats all you can ask for here. The only thing I wish it did any better and why I took one star off was apple HomeKit integration to mesh better with my “apple home” but honestly it’s good enough without that it’s still worth diving in to.

Excellent video doorbell at a great price.

I used the Alexa skill to link the doorbell. Now, when anyone comes to my door, Alexa announces it by motion detection.
