There's not a lot to this device. It's a cable modem so you basically plug it in and use it. I bought it to replace the company provided all-in-one modem/router/WAP. Works great, speeds are at least as good as what I got with company-supplied equipment.

    Basic Modem

About me: Comcast user living in ~1000 sq ft apartment This is my third modem in three weeks. I tried two modem and router combinations with poor results. I went with this and it is fast and super easy. Works great with comcast with a "downstream" of nearly 30mbps which is faster than what I pay for. Worth the money to save on the rental charge. Pays for itself in 13 months!

***If you want to increase your speeds without purchasing a new modem, try updating your router firmware! The results may surprise you. However, in addition to updating router firmware, updating to a new modem should increase your speeds.*** What: I purchased the 3.0 Motorola SB6141 to replace my old 2.0 Motorola SB5120. Why: To increase internet Download and Upload speeds. Hardware currently In Place: I have a D-Link DIR-655 Wireless N Gigabit Router. Provider and Service In Place: Comcast with Blast (50MBps). Speeds Before Replacement: Before ANY changes were made the Download speed varied from 14/16 MBps and the Upload speeds 6/8 MBps. Wireless Router Firmware Update: I updated my firmware on the router. This increased my Download speeds from 14/16 MBps to 28/30 MBps. The Upload speeds also increased from 6/8 MBps to 8/10 MBps. Speeds After Replacing the Old Modem with the New Modem: Download speeds increased overall to 50/55 MBps. The Upload speeds increased to 10/16 MBps. Over-All Total Increase After Wireless Router Firmware Update and New SB6141 Modem: Download +36/38 MBps and Upload +4/8 MBps.

    Great Cable Internet Modem!

I wanted a replacement for the modem I was renting from Comcast/Xfinity; I was tired of paying a monthly rental. This modem was an easy replacement, but I was annoyed I had to call Comcast to complete the setup and register it on my account. It works great, seemingly better than the rental.

I got this modem when I upped my internet to 50mb/sec and all I can say is that it works! I ran a speed test with my old docsis2.0 modem and it was about 30mb/sec.. I hooked up the new one, registered it with Comcast and then did another test and it was about 65m/sec., talk about a performance increase! I got this a couple months ago for about $100 (it was on sale) I thought it was a good bargain then and after a couple of months of use I still think it is a good bargain now.

I upgraded to this because my previous Motorola modem kept losing connectivity. So far this has been fine. I'm sure there are better modems out there, but this does everything I need it to do.

    Good, haven't seen issues 1yr+

Helped a friend get away from the "two-in-one" (modem/router, brouter, gateway) to have faster speeds etc. + lose monthly equipment fee's. Equipment fee's were paid out in sum of $200+ over time for equipment that would cost apx. $100 new. Buying: Modem's generally don't have rapid generation changes, so spending a little bit more can be a plus. In most cases the difference between cheapest and greatest is roughly $30. Setup: Anyone will likely spend more time on the phone with internet provider trying to get them to sink up a new modem verse setup. ** NOTE: Verify with service provider they can link-up to modem type/brand, some do not support all products. Personally, I've had no issues with Motorola modems so far, AS long as they are not two-in-one's. Hope this helps ~GH

Purchasing your own modem is the best thing you can do. I used the surfboard modem for 10+ years and I finally upgraded.

The modem seems to be pretty decent for the money paid. I am having internet connectivity issues at times, but I am almost sure it is due to my ISP, not the Modem.

SB6141 is sold as a "new, improved" replacement for the venerable SB6120/SB6121 Comcast Atlanta fully supports the SB6141 now Excellent DOCSIS 3.0 performance, solid up & down channel bonding It's the one you want, particularly if you have a CATV system with MoCA data traffic (TiVo, etc)

Constant Timeouts and loss of connection till Zoom

I had an issue about months ago with my Motorola SB6121 after some use ... all the sudden I would lose connection for a few minutes then it was back Over & Over & Over .... had them replace EVERYTHING in my house ... new wire from street to house from outside through the house into my office to my modem .... So I told them to just give me one of their junk modems and I was good to go for a while. So I decided well I just had a bad one no biggie ... and now they have the brand new Motorola SB6141 that’s a bit future proof so I thought heck ya let me give that one a try since I don’t want to pay Comcast for their old one they gave me. Bought the SB6141 and 2 days later ... Boom ... drops off for a few minutes then back up, then off for a few minutes then back up .. over and over ... and later in the night it would drop off completely for a while then come back. Weird thing the modem's lights stayed like normal and the signal lights looked like all was good but it wasn't. Hmmmmmmmm So I decided to dig around and research on Comcast /Xfinity and Motorola SB6141 and 6121 modems and Low And Behold there is TONS AND TONS of issues just like mine All OVER the Internet! And reading through a bunch of things I kept seeing this Zoom Modem being recommended and people saying my SB6141 sucked and lost connection constantly and after getting the Zoom Zero issues. So I found it locally here at BB for 70 bucks and thought before I bring more techs out I'll try it. For Days and Days now late at night my internet was DONE ... dropping off, resetting, and losing connection all together. Zoom 5341j has been connected all day and all night and 100% ZERO ISSUES ANYMORE! I know it's only one night (I will be sure to come back and update) but I know Dang well that if my SB6141 was still connected my whole house would have been down again tonight. This Zoom modem I guess works better with connections that are not perfect and may have noise and slight connection issues (not sure what you would call em' I read about what they are but don't remember) ..... Many who have no issues with the Motorola Surfboard line may have rock solid zero interruption or flawed signals .... Many do not and if you have any kind of connection issues or errors or constant reboots or restarts then BUY THIS MODEM! So happy I decided to research and fix this issue myself by finding this new modem. Great looking little no frills modem that just plain Works And when I called to have this thing activated (which took about 5 mins after I got a rep ... very quick and easy) ... he made it a point to tell me that he likes these Zoom modems and knows How Well they work and how stable they are and he gets TONS of service calls for the Motorola stuff but hardly Ever Ever gets a service issue with a customer using one of these modems. Looks like I Finally got a modem that works and works well with all kinds of connections and is Also like the SB6141 Future proof with the 8 Bonding down and IPV6 support! If you are having issues with your cable internet connection where it loses connection many times a day for no reason then comes back like it's timing out and also loses connection all together then Buy This Modem (do some searching on SB6141 (or 6121) Timeouts (it's mostly something called a T3 Timeout seems like) ... you will see what I'm talking about ... you will save TONS of time troubleshooting with Comcast and I think overall just get a better overall cable modem. Hope this reviewed has helped anyone who has the same issue as me ... feel free to comment and I will answer any questions you may have. I will be back with update!

I initially purchased the SB6141. I tried it for a few days. It reaches nice speeds. It did seem to drop the signal though. I decided I wanted a built in router so I brought the SB6141 back and got the SBG6700-ac. I love the dual modem/router, speeds are good. I had mixed results with the modem only but the 2nd one I got rocks it. Hope that helps someone else.

Exactly what I needed. If you don't want to spend too much for a modem, then buy this one. It's not cheap, but it's not super expensive.
