Didn't work on Comcast/Xfinity
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this modem to replace the $8 rental modem from Comcast. This review had such glowing reviews and was one of the most expensive so I figured I couldn't go wrong. Well...I did go wrong. I could not get this to work properly. It was able to connect but it was slow as molasses. I worked with Comcast tech support for almost an hour and they gave up and transferred me to the manufacturer's tech support line. I was on hold for $25 minutes and they ran me through their standard troubleshooting garbage and gave up and pointed the finger back at Comcast. I was extremely outraged. I returned the modem to Best Buy and purchased the Zoom DOCSIS 3.0 modem at $40 less than the SB6141. I brought it home and was up and running in minutes at blazing fast speeds. I'm not saying all Comcast users WILL have problems with the SB6141 but I did and a competitors model did NOT have problems so just wanted to point that out.

Not for Comcast, Intermittent Problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Modem has a good name, Motorola. Comcast shuns the use of this modem. However, on a 30/5M line (Up/Down) speeds would drop to 0.5/1M. No this is not a typo, 500k/1M respectively. I would frequently get speeds of 7/5M when I noticed the degradation. Reboots of Modem helped on an irregular basis. I tried at least 10 different steps and reboots before each service call to no avail. On three service calls the answer was "We have had a lot of problems with that Modem, use to be the best, but not anymore." Comcast swapped with their own (Rental) modem that was a CM1820 and works great. I am going to try a Zoom 5341 and see how that goes.

Ridiculously bright LED's
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok, so this modem does its job. It also lights up an entire apartment with pulsating blue LED light. They are CRAZY, RIDICULOUS, bright. Seriously. Maybe Motorola made them so bright because the housing is white and that makes the LED's more difficult to see. Well, the solution to that is to make the housing, or at least the front panel, black, NOT make the LED's so bright they can be seen from low earth orbit. There is no way to dim the LED's. Putting tape over them does little good since just about as much light comes out the back and through the vents in the case.

Not for time warner cable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When it works it works well. The problem is it hardly ever works with time warner. There is a known firmware issue that time warner is still "investigating." If you have time warner, stay away

Slower than the 6121
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to upgrade from 6121 to the 6141, thinking that DOCSIS 3.0 would be a little more stable (the old modem would occasionally stop working and need reset). I did several different speed tests in similar setting before and after the swap. After the swap, I went down from 70 mbps to about 7 mbps. After a few weeks, I went back to my 6121, and instantly getting way faster speed as before.

got a dud - very bad download speeds
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got a lemon, apparently, as this model is generally highly rated. When I called Comcast to activate the rep said the modem MAC was already in their system - that should have been a red flag. Guessing someone had returned it to the store and it ended up back on shelf. Anyway, download speeds never got more than 500kbps so after 3 hours on the phone with Comcast and Arris (the maker of the modem), this one is going back to the store and I'm back with my previous modem and 20Mbps speeds.

DOCSIS 3.x not needed for COX CABLE!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A conversation with a COX Communications technician a few months ago, and current COX advertisements recommend a DOCSIS 3.0 compatible modem which would double your download/upload speeds. So that should resolve the Hulu Plus/Netflicks issue of videos hanging up. Motorola Surfboard SB6141 was highly recommended. I did a speed test http://www.speedtest.net/ , on the old DOCSIS 2.x cable modem, and the new and improved 3.x modem. The results.... SAME STUFF! Directly connected the workstation to the new improved modem, same results. A call to COX Comms, said for the Internet Preferred the download speed should be 30 mbps, I get that with the old and new modem. Great!! Supposedly, the only advantage is less dropped signals, so maybe a improved Hulu Plus/Netflicks experience.

Known Issue With Comcast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is a known issue that the SB 6141 will power reboot several times per day with Comcast internet service. Motorola and Comcast have admitted to the problem via my NUMEROUS tech support calls and say they are working on a firmware update. Until that update is released, DO NOT BUY THIS MODEM IF YOU HAVE COMCAST

Not so great for a Motorola product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Reboot every now and then with my cable provider TWC , I went to the store and exchange it same thing reboot change to zoom modem and issue resolved. Do not waste your time and gas for this one if your internet provider is TWC.

buy they last version for less
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this thing was expensive and I had to buy it because of an install I was doing that day. The supported speeds of this product aren't even available by ISP's. Save some money and but the last model online.

Mr
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used Motorola modems for many years. So when I needed a new one to take advantage of DOCSIS 3.0 speeds I immediately turned to Motorola. Big mistake. This modem lost connection at least twice every day for 20-30 minutes at a time and frequently only connected at 1-2 Mbps on a 50 Mbps line. Initially I thought it must be my cable company that had problems but after repeated visits by service techs and reading some of the one and two star ratings I realized this was a frequent problem with this modem. I replaced this Motorola with a Zoom model 5341J modem and things are good again, Just wish I had done it sooner.

cuts internet speed in half, should have 0 rating
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With my previous surfboard SB6121 I was able to get a download speed of 120 Mb/s. I upgraded to this to take advantage of higher speed from ISP. However, when it was activated the fastest speed I was able to achieve was 60 Mb/s. Spent hours on the phone with ISP trying to make it work like it's supposed to. Finally, concluded this modem was a piece of junk. Returned it to the store in exchange for Motorola MB7220. Works wonderfully with no issues. Would never buy an Arris modem again

Avoid this cable modem at all costs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This cable modem is so unbelievably unreliable, it constantly has to be reset. Arris does not have a firmware answer to this other than disabling your reset capability. This does not answer the constant reboots at least 5-6 times an hour. Do not consider this as a purchase. You will be left with nothing but constant problems in Internet connection. I give it -5 out of 5 stars.

Junk! Do not buy!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SB6141 has a known issue that is not well documented. Internet service drops at random and modem gets stuck in "update mode". Up and Down lights flash blue, no way to reset. What a piece of junk! Fortunately mine failed in just a week so it goes back where it came from. Recommend?? NO, NO, NO!!!
