Customers are saying

Customers admire the SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 High-Speed Cable Modem for its ease of use, performance, and affordability. Many appreciate the straightforward setup and compatibility with their internet providers, along with its compact size. While some experienced issues with the modem's WiFi capabilities and occasional overheating, the positive feedback on performance and ease of use outweighs these concerns for most users.

    Fast and simple

Got this as a direct replacement for old Charter leased modem. Worked first time, and the lights come on in a logical sequence so you can see how far it's got (rather than weird blinking "RECV" and "READY" lights you have to guess with some modems). After first connecting, then browsing from a PC, Charter detected it was a new modem and had a convenient "Replace modem" option... Just typed in a couple numbers and all just worked. Unexpected bonus - Got a speed bump; only pay for about 17mbps, but sometimes we get close to 30 with this thing. No idea how or why, but not complaining :)

I noticed that our TW Cable Internet bill jumped $4.00 this month. I called them and they said it was because they were now charging for the pleasure of renting their modem. I checked the BB website, found this unit with the latest technology, and made a purchase. It was simple to install. I helped other friends purchase units and got theirs installed as well. The connection speed did increase as mentioned in other reviews.

Good price and much better than Time Warner's modem. My speeds increased dramatically with this modem and no longer have to pay the rental fee.

great for saving money on cable!

I bought this to save money in the long run from renting cable modems from cable companies. I had never had cable before under my name, so it was an adventure-- but I was encouraged by friends to do this. It ended up working great-- everything was very easy and concise, and the information I needed for the cable company to send a signal was easy to find and relay. The only thing that is a bit annoying is that when your connection is through a router, the 'internet connection' light blinks orange. I wish it were just solid orange-- when we are watching a movie in the dark I have to turn it around so it isn't so annoying!

    Motorola Surfboard Extreme Modem

I have Charter for my ISP, they advised me that I should upgrade my modem to a Docsis 3 type modem. I reviewed what was offered at Best Buy and chose the Motorola based on the reviews and the price. I installed it yesterday, and WOW, I did a Cisco test on my download speed and upload speed and they are just about double what I was getting with my old cable modem - took me 5 to 10 minutes working over the net and phone to get in installed - best investment I've made in a long time and great value for the bucks I spent

Although my internet connection was supposed to be 30mbps I was only getting 5 to 10 mbps with old modem. WOW! what a difference with this modem. All of sudden, I am at 30mbps or higher most of the time. Only if someone would have told me that the modem does make a difference... never too late I suppose. For the money this is a great modem. I am pretty happy

    Awesome Modem!

I decided to buy this modem after reading the reviews of the modem/wireless router in one being awful. I'm not sorry I did that! In fact I'm extremely happy with it. My old modem was going in and out and once I got this juggernaut of speed I haven't had any issues! Installing was a breeze too, I plugged it in hooked to a wireless router I got at the same time, called comcast gave them the serial number and after they reset the modem I was up and surfing in no time! I highly recommend it and advise to get one if you want to save the rental fee for a company modem.

I had been using the same modem for 12 years. Had become accustomed to the frequently dropped signals, etc and slow download/upload. I dreaded installing a new modem myself and even asked Cox to come to do it. The service rep encouraged me to do it myself as I would purchase a better modem than what Cox would install. I bought a new one and waited a week to install it because I dreaded doing it. Boy do I feel silly. This was really not much different than plugging in any new appliance. Took less than 5 minutes. Works great. No lost signals. Quick downloads/uploads. I'm an old lady (sorta). If I can do it you can do it.

    Solid fast modem

Originally bought one of these for my grandmother's new ISP, Time Warner, and has preformed flawlessly. So I bought the same modem when I switched my ISP to Time Warner as well. Have not had any issues with mine either. Easy to setup and status lights are a + as you can tell if your service is out or the problem is in your network. All around a simple fast solid modem.

Having been given a "free" modem by Comcast a few years ago, I welcomed the opportunity to see how much (if any) technology has advanced. The Motorola - SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 High-Speed Cable modem has worked like a champ. After a difficult installation, I was rewarded by superfast and reliable data speeds without the annoying "Internetus interruptis" experienced in the recent past. Just don't forget that you must call Comcast to activate the modem before use. Item was also reasonably priced.

I bought this modem to replace a failed DOCSIS 2.0 modem. It works very well and is noticeably faster than the old one. Installation is easy, although you have to call the cable company to register the modem. My only real complaint is that I had to buy it on the spur of the moment so I had to pay full list price in a store instead of shopping around for a better deal online.

After a month or so of owning this modem it's been a fantastic piece of equipment in every aspect, performance, size, compatibility with my internet supplier. My only gripe is the thing tends to get pretty warm/borderline hot.

Period! No issues whatsoever, Docsis 3.0 specification and compatible with TWC, Comcast and most cable ISPs. I have one, and recommendeded it to five different households. There is another model which is supposed to have higher speeds. But if you have a 50 Mbps or less connection, you will be fine with this model. Go get it.

I'm assuming the modem is fine; it does light up.

Deciding to not butt heads with Time Warner over their "approved" modem list #the only approved modems are this one and the next one up by Motorola which includes a router#, I choose this. Which was a good thing, because it was the only one that every Best Buy in Manhattan had on the shelves. It was weird. There was an entire stack of these, yet the spaces around it for other #cheaper# modems were completely empty. So I brought it home, plugged it in and expected to jump on to Mass Effect 3 and start KICKING A** with my bold new connectivity device. That, however, didn't happen. Why? Because I had to involve Time Warner and have them 'authorize' the MAC address #for a product I purchased and brought into my own space, where I've lived and had TWC for 10 years#. After waiting some 20 minutes for what was called "heavier than normal call volume", I was pleasantly told that I had to wait THREE days for this to process through TW before I could use it. I wonder, does anybody ever leave a message for Time Warner #as they suggest# when they basically tell you to screw off because they're too busy helping somebody else? Incidentally, Best Buy has the best price on this modem #even better than the "jungle dot com"#.

Fast, stable connection; tough initial setup

Been using this for 2-3 months. Modem has not once dropped connection or need to be reset. Connection speed is fast enough to handle any HD streaming I use such as Netflix. However, initial setting was not smooth; when I first plugged the router in it kept on dropping connection after ~3 minutes of uptime, it actually prevented my from being able to fully activate my Comcast sub (was doing self-install). I got frustrated and left it plugged to the wall for a night and when I came back to retry the next day it doesn't do it anymore, so your-mileage-may-vary. Recommended but buy from a place with good return policy just in case.
