Can't connect on desktop to change router settings or do any port forwarding because it says another user is logged in and can't seem to get past login to see my 'advanced' settings it claims i can mess with. Only my phone app is accessible, which is horrible. So far, i think this product is the worst of any router/modem product i've ever had. This was recommended by a Best Buy employee. I will no longer trust an employee to refer me a product again. I do my own research 99% of the time and under this circumstance i was in a rush for a new router/modem and i REGRET this purchase... Very disappointing!

I ended up buying this due to updating our internet speed and this was all that was available in stores at the time. Had issues from day 1 with set up, we still haven't been able to change the password even with their access code that they provided, the connection drops far too frequently, and it is extremely slow out of nowhere for extended amounts of time even though there's nothing wrong with the internet service itself. Now we're stuck with this one and we will definitely be purchasing a new netgear one as soon as we can. Not worth the money at all, extremely overpriced.

I’ve owned my own cable modems for many years in order to avoid monthly rental fees from internet service providers. If you’re using cable internet and you don’t own your modem then you’re just wasting money. For example Comcast currently charges $132 a year in modem rental fees so buying a cable modem pays for itself quickly. While there are many brands available I have exclusively owned Arris cable modems and I’ve always found them to be very reliable. I’ve been wanting to upgrade to a DOSCIS 3.1 modem so I was eager to try the Arris Surfboard SBG8300 cable modem and wireless router. DOCSIS stands for Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification which simply is the bandwidth capability of cable modem equipment. DOSCIS 3.1 is simply the latest and greatest standard which supports speeds up to 10 Gbps downstream and 1Gbps upstream. That’s faster than any package currently available from Comcast but DOCSIS 3.1 makes the SBG8300 definitely future proof. Unboxing the SBG8300 reveals the modem, power adapter, ethernet cable, and a quick start guide. There’s usually really not much to setting up a cable modem but the included quick start guide explains the process very concisely. You really just need to connect the modem to power and your coaxial cable and then make a call to your internet service provider to provision your new modem. This is the process by which they activate your service on the new modem. When you call they will ask for the HFC MAC ID number for your modem. In the case of the SBG8300 this number is located on the bottom of the device and is also conveniently available on the back page of the Arris quick start guide. This process only takes a few minutes once connected to a customer service representative and then you’re service is activated on your new modem. Next the quick start guide has you setup your WiFi connection since the SBG8300 is after all also an AC2350 wireless router. I’d have to say if you’re wanting to stop renting a modem, upgrade to DOCSIS 3.1, while at the same time upgrading your wireless router to AC2350 then the Arris SBG8300 is really a feature packed upgrade option. To setup WiFi the guide instructs you to download the Arris Surfboard Manager app. This setup is very straightforward in guiding you through step by step. In no time your WiFi is configured and you can connect your devices. Your network password is also conveniently located on the rear of the quick start guide. The Arris Surfboard Manager app has many nice features including the ability to edit your WiFi settings and check your connected device list. There is also a speed test and a WiFi spot meter which tests the strength of your WiFi connection as you walk through your home. Here you also find parental controls for your modem. Nice touch. In order to access additional settings the quick start guide directs you to the Arris Web Manger which you access by typing 192.168.0.1 into a web browser. Here you find a multitude of additional information and settings for your modem and router. Very convenient. Upon getting the SBG8300 I decided to upgrade my internet service package to gigabit speeds to better take advantage of this new hardware. I was pleased to quickly realize super fast wired speeds approaching 900Mbps while on wireless I could get around 560Mbps. These numbers will vary depending on your service and home environment. The 560Mbps was largely only available while within fairly close range. I was somewhat disappointed that overall coverage wasn’t better but not surprised since my home has some fairly substantial construction. I was able to overcome this by using an existing router system in bridge mode with the SBG8300 in order to increase its overall range. This worked very effectively. For those of you with smaller dwellings this Arris will be a perfect solution for WiFi. While the Arris Surfboard SBG8300 is a relatively expensive device, it does do double duty as a modem and as a wireless router and it does both very well. So considering you’re really getting two devices I don’t really think the price is unreasonable. Particularly when you consider that you’ve also done away with your monthly modem rental fee the SBG8300 is a full featured bargain. Highly recommended.

“Recommended” modem by Xfinity/Comcast, but would NOT accept signal and connect to service. Even after chatting with tech support and them sending multiple signals to the modem, it would NOT accept signal and connect. Returned item and replaced with Motorola MG8702 which connected immediately without issues.

I really regret buying this. As I learned after the fact: the problem with a combined modem/router is it doesn’t do either very well. As a full-time work from home person with tons of video calls, I experienced drops/freezes regularly.

Wow...WORST MODEM/ROUTER COMBO FOR SPECTRUM (ISP)! Plz Spectrum customers, there's constant signal modulation on SnR and power Db for this device to work properly. Even with a booster! Constantly called my Spectrum every month, for the last 12 months, a tech had to come out to adjust the signal. Arris (manufacturer) was ok to work with, but they wanted me to pay $55 to return their product..seriously? This line of product just doesnt work with Spectrum!!

I went to Best Buy to buy a router for my media com service and explained what I needed to the salesperson. I told him I needed voice capability because I’m getting a home phone. I was going to purchase net gear with voice and somehow got talked into this one which was more expensive by 100.00. Turns out it’s not able to connect with voice for a home phone. Your sales people need more education on products. Mike was very understanding about the return and took it back even with it being past 14 days. Thanks Mike

Arris offers no technical support. They said they discontinued the product and they only distribute it through ISPs. I cannot get basic help, an app to control settings, or even a user manual without paying Best Buy for support. Avoid this product at all costs!
