It's as small as their 3.0 model.
Easy set up.
2 X 1 gig ports is nice and handy.
No issues with throughput, or packet loss.
Runs warm. Right away this noticeable.
I put a it on its side with a usb powered 120mm fan, and it stays cool. I've done this with the previos modem and with our router and access points.
If you're spending as much on good equipment as they do now, you dont want wifi, or internet issues.
Any issues, and ill update the review.

This item was purchased because I wanted to upgrade my internet from 200mb to 300mb and was told my old modem wasn't going to handle it so I bought this to be ready when I do speed it up, set it up was fast and painless on my current 200mb plan I was getting 240mb all day long so figured I was ready. So I called them up they bumped me to 300 & speed dropped to 120mb avg they tried everything sent a guy out that to be honest was a moron and spent 4hrs @ my house blaming my surge protectors and an angle I had on a line then tells me my modem isn't compatible so he stuck one of their docsis 3.0 modems in and guess what still can't over 110mbs and he gives up says give it a few days so I hesitantly returned the surfboard 3.1 and a few days later I call and get a guy that says her just had to reset the data on my acct from brighthouse so spectrum could sync up and bam now getting over 440mbs so there was nothing wrong with modern now to go buy another one

Easy setup and configuration. Mediacom installer experienced no issues during installation. Does the job and is also on the list of approved cable modems compatible with Mediacom's network, so likely would work among other cable internet services.

Replaced my cable provider's modem with this cable modem and now I get the thru put I'm paying for. The 2nd ethernet port is not directly useable from what I experienced. Seems you have to have your internet provider provide an IP address or something for it. However, this is a good modem and I am happy with the purchase and functioning of this product.

Good Modem for DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Providers

If your cable provider is a decent CMTS they should be up to DOCSIS 3.1. This allows bonding of US and DS channels plus the use of OFDM. OFDM is a much wider carrier that can handle the higher speeds that most cable operators offer. Arris (formally Motorola, and now it may be called Commscope, although they may not change the branding right away) has manufactured quality equipment for a long time.
The early production versions of this model modem had a inferior chipset, Moto/Arris fixed this.
This is a good solid modem that performs well.

We had to replace an older modem, and this one is compatible with our system. It was in stock and we were in a hurry to replace the old one. So far it has worked out fine.

I returned the ARRIS Surfboard SB8200 because it was more advanced than what I needed for the internet speed I currently have with my cable provider. The modem itself is high quality and clearly built for much faster plans, but I couldn’t fully take advantage of its capabilities, so I chose a model.

One year in and still going strong

Woo, here we are a year later and I forgot I'd gotten it from best buy. I just changed my internet setup and gave this little boy a place of honor on my nightstand with plenty of room for air circulation.
If your ISP allows you to use your own modem DEFINITELY consider this one with a router of your choice. SO much more secure than renting a modem from an ISP with your internet. AND while it's more up front for a modem and router ($130? for this modem), you'd pay more than that in one year of renting a modem. So after 13 months I've saved maybe 10-30 dollars, and for every future year I'll save at least $100.
CAVEAT: Make sure you know how to install the modem; it's not complicated but you need to know a little about wiring and be willing to be on the phone with your ISP for a bit to set it up.
All that said, I wish more ISPs would let you use your own modem, since the only ISP in my area which will allow you to use your own modem is Xfinity.

The Arris has lasted me throughout the years. It is very fast and I never have any problems from the arris. It has been very reliable so far. This was the second one that I had purchased while having Xfinity as my internet provider.

ARRIS SB8200 - SURFboard 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Modem

The Arris SB8200 is compatible with Cox, Spectrum, Comcast Xfinity, Mediacom, WOW!, Suddenlink, Midco, and Sparklight. The 2-port setup permits you to handle two separate internet connections provided your ISP provides another usable IP address. The best thing about the SB8200 is a high-speed Broadcom processor. The SoC works in tandem with 3GB RAM, making it easier to cut through any type of congestion and network latency. The Broadcom BCM3390 is fast and lets you work in adherence with the 32 x 8 channel bonding support. The DOCSIS 3.1 support even lets you manage multi-gig connections, provided the ISP is supportive of the same. Arris even incorporates 16MB of flash memory to store network configurations and updates with ease. The existing processing setup makes way for IPv6 support to improve browsing performances, significantly. You also get 128MB of additional storage space to amplify networking experiences. Quick installation and setup with the web interface are very easy to get around, making activation simple.

Wry easy to setup, Comcast / Xfinity performance will vary. In my area Docsis 3.1 download works as expected but Docsis 3.0 only supported in my area or supported with my current plan which I did not expect which was disappointing.
Otherwise I have seen better download performance than my older Arris modem and I would strongly recommend this upgrade if you don’t need or plan to need a Comcast based VoIP phone since this modem does not support this capability.

High quality product with easy setup, clearly written setup steps, and online support should it be needed. Also supported by the local Cox Cable Company on their Internet Networks. This also saves money for you over all the years this product will be utilized Vs paying $10.00 monthly for the same product from the local cable company.

I received a notice from my internet provider that my current modem was not sufficiently supporting the level of service I was paying for. Of course, the internet provider wanted me to upgrade and rent from them.
I bought this unit. It’s more than I needed, however it offers some future proofing for me. It was super easy to set up. I’m paying for 400Mbps and now get an average of 478. I’m using a Linksys router that I also bought at BestBuy. Very happy with the results!

Upgraded from 500 to 800 MBPS internet speed. Old modem was capped at 450 MBPS. This did the trick !! Now consistent at 750-900 MBPS all the time. So far 30 days and still great. Works perfect with Xfinity internet .
