Died after 1 year, warranty support terrible.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this for 13 months before it failed. Only giving two stars instead of one because setup was easy and it was solid before it started failing. A couple moths ago, started having problems with intermittent disconnects, troubleshooting indicated the modem as it was failing for all devices in the house whether going through the wireless router or hard wired. Then it started boot looping about every 15 minutes. What is terrible about this product is the technical support. The tech treated me like a noob, ignoring the troubleshooting I had already performed and making me repeat EXACT SAME STEPS. Unnecessarily long (I think he was handling too many calls at once - long lag between steps), and after two hours, I gave up because having it replaced was not worth my time. Never buying Arris again.

Last less than 2 years and you’ll be replacing it
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These Arris modems work well until they don’t. This the second one I’ve owned and I’m averaging about a year and nine months before they start dropping the internet connection. Rebooting them gives you anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours before it drops again. This one has started the issue now, so I’ll be replacing it. I know these modems have a shelf life, but the Arris line has been the worst I’ve ever used. I’ll be going to another brand name with the replacement. No more Arris modems for me.

Worked great until it failed
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this modem in April 2023. Fast transmission and wifi never seemed to have issues with multiple users/devices. It was dependable and rebooted quickly when power or disruptions from tje provider occurred. •But the unit failed New Years morning, 2025, and when the Specteum tech arrived and serviced/ checked the line we verified the modem failed and was not receiving nor transmitting, so they replaced with one of their modems. This doesn’t make it worth rhe cost. •It was connected to a surge protector/sine wave UPS so it cannot be blamed on a power surge.

Compact
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had it for only 6 weeks and the modem became very unpredictable on it working. I had to restart it almost daily. I exchanged it for the ARRIS S33v3 and that works great. That was a suggestion by the manager; Kevin

Surprised by all the bugs!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had SB6190 for the past 4 years with Cox paired with Asus AC1900 with No issues! I upgraded to cox Gigablast and decided to purchase this modem along with a Netgear nighthawk AC2400. I’ve had nothing but issues, this modem would get very hot and would reboot automatically about 4 times daily! I’ve called Cox and did everything possible but still the problem continued. I returned my 1st modem in exchange for another one hoping I just had a buggy modem. I was wrong.. had the same issues. I ended up getting a Netgear CM1000 and haven’t had any issues with rebooting, everything is working as it should. I really wanted to like the SB8200 since I’ve had such a good experience in the past but ended up disappointed. Hopefully they will fix the bugs with a software update.

2 year and 2 month lifespan
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Idk how these things know when they’re out of warranty, but it’s almost guaranteed. I’m on my 3rd Surfboard and they all stop working about 2 months outside of warranty. In the past I looked at it as a reason to upgrade. This time I’m finding what I currently have is still relevant. Mine is starting to work intermittently giving me unreliable internet. I purchased it April 2021 and it started acting up towards the end of June 23. When it worked it was pretty rocksteady. Probably count on one hand the times it needed a reset. Good speeds as well. Guess make sure you buy an extended warranty.

not as good as a motorola
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.my old motorola died after 5 years. needed a new modem immediately, short on money and the local best buy had one of these in stock. I couldn't afford a motorola at the time so I decided to try the arris. big mistake. when it works it's pretty good. the problem is after just 6 months the one I bought will just disconnect from the internet. I have to unplug it for a minute then plug it back in and wait for it to reconnect. it happens once every 60-70 days...and at the worst times. no I didn't pay for geek squad protection. it was more than I had at the time. getting manufacturer warranty service is a no go because I work from home and I can't be without internet for the time it would take to get an exchange through the manufacturer. I think it's time to pony up for a motorola.

Might want to consider Netgear instead
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.ARRIS SURFboard 32 x 8 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem The Arris MODEM worked great for six months, then throughput degraded significantly. Contacted Xfinity (Comcast), they eventually sent a technician who was unable to get this unit working at better than half capacity. They plugged in a rental unit, and I got 860Mbps (on a GB line), compared to the 260Mbps best DL speed from the Arris unit. No apparent reason for the performance degradation. Hoping to return it for a new unit, and see if it goes back to expected throughput. It is a lot of money for disappointing performance after 6 months of usage! If it still operated as advertised, I would recommend it, but until I see a new one work for longer than six months... you may be better off with a different manufacturer.

Compatibility fit
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Comcast attempted to install with its Gigabit service and failed.I switched to the Netgear CM1000 and neither were able to work reliably with the Comcast connection with the Netgear Nighthawk X10 AD7200 Smart Router. However, theNetgear CM-1000 modem was an improvement over the AARIS which I returned. Be sure that the pole to home wiring is changed since Comcast requires that installs be done by a technician. In my case the Netgear driver updates for the Netgear equipment (modem and router) did NOT complete before Comcast left, and failed to verfy that the system was completely working. However, it is not clear that Comcast was able to do any triage because it had not allotted enough install time. Comcast refunds all onsite work in such cases. So ask for an install rebate. I purchased a total of three of the most expensive upgrades and am not sure how to stabilize the connection for this service.

SB8200 did not work with my wireless routers...
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good modem by itself. My PC can get online and the internet speed is 700 MBPS on an xfinity plan of 600 MBPS. But it just did not work with my two wireless routers (one is ASUS AC1200 and the other is TP-link C4000). After I replaced it with a Motorola modem, both of my routers worked right away. I am using only one router. So if you found a problem with your router when using SB8200, it might be the modem's issue.

Inconsistent
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great speeds when it works. Frequently can’t obtain the ISP’s IP address resulting in no internet access. Resetting the modem on my own does not resolve the issue. I need to have Xfinity (Comcast) reset the modem to regain the IP address, This was never an issue with my previous generation SURFboard. I also have the latest generation ASUS gigabyte router, which has trouble with this modem. I subscribe to Xfinity gigabyte service so upgraded to this modem for the 3.1 capability, but have not seen any benefit compared to my 3.0 SURFboard.

meh
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Died in less than 30 days. Thought it was the lines and had Xfinity replace all the coax to the box. Worked for less than one full day and started crashing and hanging. Tried to work with support and they blamed xfinity, and xfinity blame the modem. Had enough of talking to both of them. I reinstalled our old DOCSIS 3.0 modem and guess what, internet has been up for 3+ days with ZERO entries in the event log. It was the lines in turns out, but then it was the SB8200 at fault.

Don't get caught in the middle
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this because it was Xfinity approved. Hooked it up and called Comcast to give them the MAC address. I don't know if it is a Comcast issue or an ARRIS issue but after four hours on the phone with each Comcast and ARRIS, the speed of my connection is not as good as my old modem. Less than 100 mps when I am paying for 400 mps. I got 250 mps from my old equipment.

Not compatible with Spectrum, buyer beware
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sadly, this is unopened and passed the return period. I’m sure it’s great, I have DOCSIS 3.0 Surfboard now. Bought this 3.1 due to higher internet tier but Spectrum won’t provision this even though at the time of purchase it was listed as allowed on their website. So, I guess I can say the box is good looking. Holding onto it in case spectrum changes their mind

Excited to have access to higher cable internet
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was excited to get this product. Moving up from 3.0 version. This is giving us access to cable internet speed we are paying for. Was disappointed that when we got it home an hour later, it didn’t work out of the box so we returned it. Best Buy was great about the return. Must have just been that modem.

Don’t bother if you have Cox
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had to reboot this device every three or so days because it would lose connection with the Cox Communications server. 960Mbps service would drop to 15-25Mbps routinely after a few days. Definitely not satisfied. Ended up exchanging for a Netgear cable modem that has not had any problems.

Failed attempt
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup was fairly easy, but performance was not as advertised. Worked with the remote Cox tech support and we were not successful in getting this unit to perform as advertised. He recommended another manufacturer and model and I exchanged this at my local Best Buy and it is performing as advertised.
