Blown Away!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ive only owned 3 pairs of gaming headsets (sony pulse elite, ps gold, and ive recently bought the astro a50s) both pulse elite and gold wireless headsets have broke on me. The pulses sounded great with the bass impact feature, and i really missed them once they cracked around the rumble motors, and i found out they discontinued them, so i replaced them with the gold wireless headset, and though they do sound great they lack the bass that the pulses had, but i was still satisfied... that was until they broke where they folded at, and ive never folded them because i heard it was best not to for that reason. they only lasted me 2 months, and i baby my electronics. The pulses lasted me 9 months btw.I decided to replace the golds with the a50's because the build quality was much better, i didnt want to replace the same pair of headphones every few months, so upgrading to the a50s seem like the right choice for me. i paid about $110 on top of my best buy store credit from the gold headset. When i took the a50s home and set them up, i was blown away by the sound difference. the a50s are on another level. they get HELLA LOUD without losing sound quality and the bass gets really low on these a50s, so low that they shake on my head sometimes, something only the pulses did, and they had rumble motors inside. Im more concerned with how a headset sound when i look for a new pair, and these have me smiling while gaming or watching movies. i d go as far as to say they are imax quality sound for movies. the golds were great but they are very fragile. lots of people have to replace them because of them breaking. i would extremely recommend anyone looking to buy the gold wireless, to buy a warranty.im kinda glad mine fell apart because the astros are a upgrade in every category.

GOOD HEADSET
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I find this headset to be over rated. It is good but not all what its hyped up to be. Yea the sound is good and they seem to be built well and are comfortable, but not worth 300 dollars the features are very basic as a standard headset and actually less then many. At this price I would expect Bluetooth capable for other devices and if you turn up the volume all the way playing music it distorts. They went cheap on cables and give you ones just long enough to do the job and the stand is a joke, some plastic thing with not much thought put into it. They also have a 2.5mm jack on the headset itself for x box I guess and everything else is 3.5 mm so you have to go buy an adapter to use it with any normal device if it even works im not sure of that. The receiver has a normal 3.5mm jack u can plug a ipod or phone into and listen to it while your gaming or whatever but what good is that im 10 feet away from it I cant change songs or anything after it is plugged in being that far away. Not sure what your getting for 300 dollars other then good sound and comfort but there are plenty of headsets that offer that maybe not right to the same sound level but in my opinion it doesn't make up the 300 dollar price tag on these. Also why cant these companies make a headset like your talking into a phone so you can have that sense of how loud you are talking. My gf keeps looking at me and asking me to keep it down cause im talking so loud and don't realize it.

Good headset but problems on a PC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Disclaimer: My experience is based on using this exclusively with a PC and may not apply if you plan to use this with a console. I found the build quality to be excellent. It feels solid, like it will last. Unfortunately, that build quality (plus the battery) make it very heavy and may present some comfort issues. The sound deserves high marks. Very strong bass with balanced mids and highs. It sometimes skews a little bass heavy, but it's a tight, punchy, high quality bass. The microphone is also very good and is highly adjustable and unobtrusive. The battery lasted me about 5-6 hours on a charge which is almost 2 gaming sessions for me. I really wanted to like this wireless headset. It has so many really nice features, but there is a fatal flaw. The wireless transmitter is in the right ear, and it emits an audible buzz every time the microphone picks something up. It's some kind of feedback between the transmitter and the right speaker. The closed ear design is very isolating, so you can very clearly hear the buzzing. I checked with Astro on their forums and scores of other users are having the same problem. There is no fix for this (and it doesn't look like there ever will be). It may not bother some people, but once I noticed it, I couldn't unnotice it. As expensive as these are, they shouldn't have this problem. For that reason I had to return them.

Night and Day
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use headsets to play games, watch movies, and listen to music. From this standpoint, it's like night and day when it comes to using this headset. A couple of pointers though. Get the Turtle Beach (yes I said Turtle Beach lol) Audio Advantage Micro II USB Analog and Digital Audio Adapter if you plan on using this on a laptop with no optical cable input. While I am beta testing the Astro USB TX dongle, after using it for a few month's it's very frustrating to use. Pros: -Sound is insanely good. They aren't too crazy exaggerated and can be if you want it to be by just changing the sound settings. -Versatile: I ended up getting rid of all my other headsets because these Astro a50s are all you need. It works with everything: PS4, PC, Laptop, Xbox One, etc. I recommend getting the 3 year accidental coverage from Best Buy just because well, headsets don't last 3 years with constant use and travel and these are the only ones you'll ever really need to buy. -Can wear these for hours and not get a headache or feel like your head is weighed down. -3 Modes is superb. The only downfall is that sound mode 3 is designed for enhanced footstep sound. These work well for like Call of Duty, but for Counterstrike GO it's hard to discern if the footsteps belong to your teammate or someone about to charge out. The reason being is because you'll hear your teammate's footsteps that's at catwalk in dust2 even though you are at long doors. -7.1 surround is really good. Really immerses yourself in the movie if it supports 7.1 -I got these $100 off when they had this on sale. Even at $299, the price is worth it. Cons: -Wireless charge doesn't last as long as I thought. Then again, I use them a lot per day. Wish you could just swap the battery. -Doesn't come with a 3.5mm jack to use with phone. Had to purchase separately.

Terrible product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product almost a year ago with a two-year warranty through Best Buy. Within the first six months I had exchange it for a new one due to communication was not working. I've called tech they the company and told me to update the device, I did that. I called Sony to help me thru the setting. So I went back to bestbuy and they were able to replace my device. I have the Asto A40 for my xbox one and it's the best pair ever, Because it connects directly to the controller. So with my new so with my new set it work for 2 days and it stop working. I can hear the chat and not the game play. I did the same thing I called Astro customer service and did all the trouble shooting. I've called Sony and did the same thing. At this point I would not recommend this product to anyone, if you do decide to buy this you better get the warranty with them so that you don't lose out of money

Excellent Headset for Hardcore Gamers!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently bought this headset and they are insane! Super comfortable and have incredible sound. Even though the box says they work with PS4 PS3 PC & MAC, They also work with XBOX ONE! Make sure to buy the remote controller adaptor and the headset wire to go in it! Any stereo adapter wire will do ( I bought mine from Turtle Beach ) with a 3.5mm and 2.5mm ends. 3.5mm goes into adaptor and 2.5mm into the headset. Down load Firmware 1st and sync to your consoles! Some reviews were given a 1 star cause of internet interference which was my problem as well. I finally got someone on the Phone At XBOX ONE support (3 calls and 2/12 hrs later) who knew what to do! We changed some settings in my router and gave xbox its own IP address and wham! problem solved! Headsets work on all of PS3 PS4 and Xbox consoles! These are they ONLY headsets Ive found to go across both new consoles! They only reason for the wire on Xbox One is Tritton has exclusive rights to wireless headsets for them! All in all I'm extremely happy with the ease of use, once hooked up and they incredible sound for 1st person shooters and RPG'S! They have easy to use chat and game volume on one side and a separate volume to turn up everything! 3 separate settings for sound which I used in multiple games and was easily good enough for me! But if your the REALLY picky kinda Gamer and want those personal EQ settings that Turtle Beach provides these might not be for you! But just get ready to give up the most comfortable headsets Ive ever used! Bravo Astro!

TL;DNR: I love this headset (multi-platform use)
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.(Also posted on my blog) It’s taken almost a year for me to get around to writing this review because I wanted to do something a bit more in-depth than just first impressions. I’ve also learned a few things after a year of use that definitely impact my opinion of this headset, so hopefully this review will help people in the market for wireless gaming headsets. I was already a fan of ASTRO products, the A50 was an upgrade from the original wired ASTRO A40 headset and MixAmp purchased in early 2010. The original MixAmp has some compatibility issues with PS4, but overall still a great system if you don’t mind cables. I could potentially have just upgraded to the latest version of the A40 MixAmp if I wasn’t also interested in going wireless. The A50 has the same over the ear form factor as the original A40, but in my opinion has a higher build quality feel and a little extra weight from the built-in battery (not heavy to wear though). The headset is also very comfortable for extended gaming and movie or TV watching. I was relieved that ASTRO’s success and being acquired by Skull Candy in 2011 hasn’t impacted the quality of their products since my original 2010 A40 headset. +++++ Sound Quality +++++ I am not an “audiophile” and my opinion of audio quality is purely subjective. That said I am a bit of an audio snob and like to think I have an ear for good vs bad audio. Because I live in an apartment and have a roommate I need to watch the volume on my entertainment center so I don’t make anyone mad. Playing games and watching movies with my ASTRO A50 is wonderful because I can have the volume up as loud as I want without disturbing anyone. Between the 3 EQ settings and 7.1 surround sound this headset is great for everything from movie watching to multi-player shooters. The next best thing to having a speaker setup. Sound is clear and strong, nothing seems to be lost by being wireless. The surround isn’t over pronounced but just feels natural. It also obviously depends on the game or movie, not everything has 5.1 / 7.1 support or is equally well mixed. A 3-position switch on the back of the right earpiece lets you pick the best EQ for the situation: 1. Bass heavy and rich for movies and music. 2. Balanced with less bass, suggested for single-player gaming. 3. The least bass for better surround sound, suggested for multi-player gaming to let you hear where your opponents are. The game to voice-chat mix can also be adjusted by simply pressing the front or back of right earpiece cover. Forward for game volume and back for voice chat. A beep indicates the 50/50 mix and a double beep indicates 100% game or voice. The boom mic is not removable as it was with the old A40. The only way to mute the mic is to push it up into the 90° position. It’s actually perfect because there’s never any question to if you are on mute or not. I’ve never heard any complaints about my voice quality and it rarely picks-up background noise. ============ >> Important note for 5Ghz WiFi router owners: Early on I had sporadic issues with the audio signal cutting in and out, I even had ASTRO support take a look. Before giving-up I finally discovered my 5GHz WiFi router was the cause when it used the same wireless signal bands as the headset. Thankfully this was easily fixed in my router settings and I haven’t had issues since. I suggest you check your router settings before you purchase an A50 system. For more info Google: "Tip for Astro A50 wireless headset owners who have issues with signal interference". ============ +++++ Battery life +++++ Battery simply hasn’t been an issue. I’ve only ever heard the low power warning beep twice, usually after playing Destiny for several hours with friends online. My controller battery is usually getting low about the same time. In a pinch, with a long enough micro USB cable it’s easy to plug-in and charge while still using the headset. I’ve alternated charging both my PS4 controller and headset during a long gaming session before. +++++ My setup +++++ A big part of why I picked this headset is multi-platform flexibility. My setup includes a PS4, Apple TV, Xbox 360, PC and Mac. I’m also not excluding the possibility of an Xbox One eventually. It’s not quite possible to have all of the above hooked-up at the same time, but I’ve managed to get close. The primary audio source to the MixAmp is TOSLINK digital optical, or USB if you connect to a PC/Mac. I run optical-out directly from my PS4, Apple TV, and Xbox 360 into a switcher box (alternative) directly into my MixAmp. I switch optical & TV HDMI inputs with my Logitech Harmony remote programmed activities. My TV’s optical-out goes to my bookshelf speaker amp for when I’m not using my headset. PS4 voice chat requires the MaxAmp USB be plugged into the PS4 as the voice audio source (USB is also the MixAmp power source). To avoid needing to plug and unplug for the PS4 all the time I’ve set my PS4 to supply power to it’s USB ports even while in “rest mode” (a system setting). This allows me leave the MixAmp plugged into my PS4 24/7 for power so long as I use “rest mode”. For Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners you would need to buy the “Xbox One A50” or grab an Xbox One adaptor (Xbox 360 chat cable) to plug into your controller for voice chat. I already have an Xbox 360 chat cable from my old A40 system so my “PS4 version” of the A50 works just fine with an Xbox 360. If you don’t own a PS4 you could probably use a USB cellphone charger to power the MixAmp 24/7 and switch between optical devices as needed without unplugging the USB. +++++ USB Tx for PC & Mac (optional) +++++ Again because I’m lazy and don’t like to unplug and replug things, I got the ASTRO USB Tx peripheral ($40 via Astro's website) for my PC gaming. This little dongle works great with the Windows ASTRO Dolby software, it’s basically plug-and-play. The USB Tx even works with Macs without any additional software. Just make sure the main MixAmp is turned-off before you try to use the USB Tx, otherwise the headset will pair with the first device it can find. I also found that USB is the easiest way to get digital surround on PC. Due to complicated driver and audio compression reasons many PC’s optical-out is limited to 2 channels by default. I still can’t find a good concise or consistent explanation of this. >> Note: I did originally get a defective USB Tx that slowly stopped working reliability. ASTRO support was quick to exchange it for a working one and I haven’t had an issue with it since. +++++ Final thoughts +++++ There are a number of other brand wireless headsets with Dolby surround but most have limitations of one kind or another when looking for multi-platform support. A popular cheaper alternative for PS4 owners that I did also consider is the PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset - Jet Black. Ultimately I decided against it because it lacks cross-platform support for wireless and surround sound. I’ve also heard complaints about build quality. I’ve personally never tried these so I don’t know how well they compare to the ASTRO A50’s sound quality. The A50’s price tag may be high for some people but I feel it was money well spent as an alternative to a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system that works with all my home theater devices and computers. Functionality, build quality, and audio fidelity justify the price for me. I recommend the ASTRO A50 to all gamers who want a wireless solution and cross-platform flexibility. A good friend of mine who is also an A40 owner (for 6 years), suggested I didn’t give ASTRO enough credit for their wonderful customer support in my first review draft. They’ve been kind enough to send him replacement screws and other parts as his headset has aged. I’ve had similar experiences, as I mentioned above they quickly replaced the defective USB Tx. It’s good to know they stand behind their products and value their customers.

Awesome!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After reading many reviews online and at Best Buy, I decided to take the plunge into a high end gaming experience. Needless to say, no regrets! These headphones have the best clarity over all others I have used in the $75-$150 range. My online friends say my voice is ultra crisp and clear, more than it's ever been. The sound is OUTSTANDING. The clarity and detail it picks up in the game that the game programmers made the game to hear are unbelievable. No buyers remorse here! Long time gamer on PC, Xbox and PlayStation and I have to say Astro phones are BEAST! I chose the A50's as I like cordless and am VERY impressed with battery life. Several hours in and I couldn't believe the Astro's were still going. Bypassed the predecessors I had used. A must have for serious and quality minded buyers!

Great headsets for gaming.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The good: I love these headsets. They are good quality, sound great, and they are very comfortable. I could wear them for hours. The bad: I'm an audiophile there for I like to hear things loud and clear. These headsets can be very loud and only sound good as long as you Don't max out the volume. Once at max volume you can hear the speakers muffle. If im paying $300 dollars for these headsets I would expect for Astro to invest on building better quality speakers on these headsets.
