Microsoft edge is not bad. I bought this for my grandson as well and he loves it.

For this price range, i wasn't expecting much and expecting the slow performance. However, i owe a Chromebook from ASUS (also less than $200 price range) with weaker SPECS than this window laptop, but the performance of the Chromebook is not as slow nor lag nearly as much as this laptop. the main purpose of this laptop i purchased it for is web surfing (less than 3 tabs open), youtube, netflix and microsoft office. but it can barely handle simple task what i intend for. for some reason, the ASUS chromebook i got with slightly weaker specs are capable of doing all those better (except MS office). please keep in mind that this laptop runs window 10s as i wasnt aware when i first purchased it, but you can switch to window 10 pro within 1min

I do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience if you are experiencing slow system speed or performance with the laptop. Certainly, the unit was designed as an entry-level computer that runs basic and light computing applications like web-surfing, emailing and word-processing without compromising system stability and performance. This issue is temporary during the initial WINDOWS setup and before installing cumulative WINDOWS Update, regardless what brand name of computer this may be. This may take a longer time depending on the network traffic from the update server and the stability of your high-speed internet service. Once initial setup and WINDOWS Update installation completed, system speed or performance will be optimized. In order to maintain optimum system stability and performance, cumulative WINDOWS Update needs to be installed periodically. If you are accessing web applications, please make sure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect system speed and performance. I mainly use it for shopping online, video watching, basic web searching. The one thing that it's lacking are right and left click buttons under the touch pad. That would make a big difference, I bought a small mouse to subsidize for the buttons.

The reason I bought it is to run a program I wrote and it wouldn't do so. Win 10 S only runs MS apps. That was a shock. Luckily you can switch to Win 10 which I did. I have it running my program 24/7 and it has done very well for weeks now. I am pleased.
