    Great laptop for senior citizen.

I tried many laptops with my 84-year-old father and 81-year-old mother. We took back about 4 different laptops. Before giving up we tried the ASUS brand for the first time. They tried and returned to HP & Dell computers but those brands did not suit their needs. This computer has a sleek and durable build. When I set it up and gave it to them they were very impressed with the speed of the machine. ASUS support has also been very helpful and nice. I am looking into now getting into the ASUS brand myself because of their quality, performance, dependability and support. This laptop really showed them how fun and easy the internet can really be. There really enjoying their new laptop and I hope it gives them years of joy. Thank you ASUS for providing such a good quality product and my next laptop will definitely be an ASUS.

    Machine for Inexpensive Linux Build

If you want to run W10, this machine does not have enough memory to perform well. I purposely bought this machine to run Linux on it. I'm running Mageia 7 64-bit, running Plasma (KDE) display environment. This machine performs well with this particular platform. Linux is able to recognize the WIFI, graphics driver, and other devices. The drive seems a little slow, but for the price it is what is expected. It is a good low power Linux laptop. Note you must disable FastBoot and enable CMS to install.

    Terrible Battery Life

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this Asus computer a few weeks ago to replace my HP Stream which had started giving me problems. It's very noisy, has a scratching sound when in use over the speakers and the battery life is terrible. It can be charged to 100%, then 9hr left, be unplugged for 20 minutes and drops to 4 hrs remaining. I have had to have it plugged in for the whole time I am using it or the battery just goes dead in an hours time. It was a cheap replacement for a two year old computer since I use my computer up to 18 hours a day for watching videos, paying bills and just general looking things up on the interweb. Invest in a better computer if you want to play games or are a serious computer user.

      Dear Mimi,

Thank you for the review. I certainly understand your dissatisfaction with the quality of the product and your concern regarding the speakers and the battery life is terrible. Please try to do a hardware reset (hold the power button down for approximately 60 seconds) by disconnecting the AC adapter and let the battery drain for at least 24 hours, longer time will allow to clear the memory completely and reset the hardware to default settings, then charging without using it, use it without the AC adapter and repeat the process. Please also make sure your device is up to date with the latest Bios and Drivers & Utilities for optimal system performance by going into ASUS support website. Normally, ASUS provides one year warranty coverage, if product was purchased brand-new, in order to fix or repair any hardware or, part that stop working prematurely under normal usage. If you have any questions or concerns, you can speak to an ASUS live support agent 24/7 or contact me at [email protected]. I would be more than happy to assist you.

    cheap but bad laptop

its a cheap but bad laptop only deserves 3 stars, out of the box its slow, very slow,it advertises long key presses as an advantage, its not also use a mouse, its quicker,i bought it to travel with as it was cheap and did not want to bring my other laptop,i upgraded the harddrive to 256 gb ssd drive ,but watch out for 2 ribbon cables which will break easly,i wanted to upgrade the memory but would have to take the computer completely apart as memory is under the motherboard, asus should put 2 doors for memory and harddrive on the bottom to make it an easy change look at youtube to take it apart with memory you take off 2 ribbon cables, take off fan wifi adapter ect,and motherboard,i practiced on old asus broken computer I had,the ssd drive made it livable with, but I did not try the new 4gb ddr4 memory as I might have broken the ribbon cable,i loaded fresh windows as I did not want bloatware, but you need a mouse as creative update from Microsoft does not work the asus track pad until you install new driver at the end,you really need 8gb for windows 10 as you will find windows 10 updates slow the computer down, asus makes its computers hard to upgrade,i also took apart a Lenovo, and it had 2 doors at bottom, asus should move memory stick or put door on bottom

      Dear Vzxd,

I do understand your concern regarding the slow system performance of the stock hardrive and the inconvenience accessing RAM inside the unit. The pre-installed hardrive and RAM can run WINDOWS and popular software or applications efficiently, without compromising system performance. However, WINDOWS Update needs to be installed periodically in order to maintain optimum performance. Indeed, upgrading to a SSD will boost system speed and performance. In regards to your input on how to easily access the RAM for upgrade, I will forward your feedback to the design team for reconsideration for future or new product roll out. Should you need further assistance with the product, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

At first, the computer was good and worked well. As time went on though, it became slower and took forever to turn on! It got so slow, I ended up getting a new computer after 2 years. I used it mostly for school, worked well for those two years though.

    Works as intended...but with issues

Horrible static noise coming from the speakers. I returned the first unit and the second does the same thing...I just can't believe nobody else has had the same issue and posted about it. I've tried different outlets, battery only, isolation away from any interference, driver updates and messed with all the audio settings. Nothing has worked. Realtek audio chipset seems to be the culprit from my research, but I can't find a fix. I decided to deal with it, disable the onboard audio and use a bluetooth speaker instead. That being said, it's okay for my purpose of youtube, web browsing and document editing. Ditch the slow 5400rpm hard drive and get an SSD. The unit runs a bit hot at times as I've peaked at 100 celsius but no failures of any kind.

It's not bad overall though it does make noise but isn't necessarily bad it's more white noise. Also it had trouble connecting to my internet but might be my internet rather then the laptop. It's not bad if you're using it just to browse the web.

    Static from speaker was dealbreaker

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have purchased a number of budget laptops from BestBuy, and they have all been good - as long as you are expecting an entry level laptop for basic work. As mentioned in other reviews, there is some form of static feedback/interference in the audio components of this laptop while playing audio; turning down the volume does not help. You can disable the audio device and it will stop the static, but then you hear no sound at all. Wired headphones will play good in your ears, but static from the laptop speakers will still be heard. I tried reinstalling all the drivers. The workaround is either a Bluetooth audio or a USB audio adapter with the built-in device disabled. Everything else about this laptop is good. Trackpad is great, Keyboard is bouncy, but good, screen is big and nice for older eyes. Laptop is fast enough after lots of Windows updates complete.

      Dear Neuro,

Thank you for writing a comment for the product. I certainly understand your concern regarding the static sound being generated. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is a random problem. To resolve the issue, please try to connect the laptop to another known good power source or AC outlet and away from electronic or electrical devices that maybe generating excessive electrical or RF noise. Uncleaned power source or faulty electrical or electronic device that is generating excessive electrical noise can disturb static-sensitive devices or components in the laptop that may cause the static sound. If you need further assistance, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than glad to help.

This notebook can be fast and powerful if you add extra RAM. I installed Timetec Hynix 8GB DDR4 and it works well with this notebook. Crucial 8GB DDR4 is not compatible with this laptop.

      Dear Exh411,

Thank you for writing a comment for the product. I do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused you if the RAM is not upgradeable and it doesn't come with an optical drive. On the contrary, lots of satisfied customers, having positive experience using the product, will agree with me that the unit is a decent system that is perfect for running basic and light computing applications, without compromising system stability and performance, without the need for RAM upgrade. If an optical drive becomes a necessity, an external USB optical drive can always be connected. Should you need further assistance with the product, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help.
