Best thin gaming laptop for the price

PROS - Thin. - Easy access to RAM, HDD bay, and PCIe slot for upgrades - I/O is amazing. There's a plug for anything I could want. - It's VR-Ready - 120hz Refresh Rate. First laptop I've had higher than 60hz and it's awesome. - ROG Gaming Center is great for easily changing key colors or the color settings of the display - Trackpad and keyboard is a 9/10. Trackpad could be a little bit smoother but it's still great. - The soft rubber finish on the top of the laptop feels really nice. CONS - The fans get loud during gaming but if you expect a gaming laptop to be quiet, especially one this thin, then I'm not sure what you want really exists. So take the good with the bad. - Battery life is around 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Once again, if you expect battery life to be great on a gaming laptop, don't get a gaming laptop. - Minor bloatware. Nothing a few minutes can't fix.

    Great potential, horrible reliability

The first impressions after buying this laptop was that it had great assembly and good performance. However, after 1 week of using, the screen started to have problems when after it went to sleep, it would not wake up. The only solution to this problem was to force it to shut down and restart it. This issue was never resolved, and then recently after a couple of months, the computer froze and had to force shut down. This time it does not turn at all. The performance was good, but the reliability is so bad that it is just not worth it. Very disappointed in this product. Never buying an Asus again.

Long story short I had a hp omen laptop with all the bells gtx 1050ti, 15.6 4k display and i7-7700HQ. But when your right cooling fan starts to screech so loud that your classmates start giving you stares it’s time to get it fixed. Easier said than done for a Computer Engineering student, so I decided to sell my hp when it gets back and chose this laptop to take it’s place. I made my decision from my opinion that ASUS makes the best internal components so why not try their laptops. Pros: 1. Build Quality: This laptop looks and feels like a $2000 rig. From the aluminum top to the soft material palm rest, it looks and feels premium. 2. Display: I don’t know how asus could get a IPS panel to look so good and the 120 Hz is even better. Kind of hard to miss the 4k display from the omen. 3. Graphics: The gtx 1060 is a power house and makes games like Star Wars Battlefront 2 look amazing. But was kind of sad to find out it’s the 3GB version and not the 6GB(this was my fault and in no way influenced the rating) Cons: 1. Keyboard and Trackpad: If you’re looking for a laptop with an RGB keyboard, this computer might leave you slightly dissatisfied. The backlight is not bright enough to where certain colors are hard to see, and the transparency of the keys are not transparent enough. I've read reviews that say the track pad has issues and I'm here to tell you its true. There is a problem with the trackpad where it will skip or not pick up you finger for seconds at a time. This issue will happen randomly and leaves me frustrated that there hasn't been a driver fix for this issue yet. Either way this shouldn't be happening on a thousand dollar laptop. 2. Battery: OKAY OKAY OKAY! YES I know that this is a gaming laptop but coming from the hp omen that had a 1050ti, and was smaller than this computer I was getting 4.5 hours of basic use. To where now this computer under basic usage only lasts 2 to 2.5 hours. This is with even putting the battery performance to basics, reducing the 120Hz down to 60Hz and reducing the brightness down to 40% (seriously wth). And if I play a game like Star Wars Battlefront 2 ill only get up to 50 minutes. If the battery life is due to the gtx 1060 then I might have to reconsider going with a 1050 version to hopefully squeeze out another hour. 3. Heat: Again I know this is a gaming laptop but this computer runs warm even under the most basic of usages. Even right now as I am typing away I can feel the heat seeping through the keyboard. The internals say 120 F but you can feel it through the middle of the keyboard and especially though the bottom which makes this not so much a “laptop”. When running software like Vivado, Visual Studio and Pspice the fans will kick on to 40% for at least 5 mins at a time before turning off. For gaming…..if you decide to play games on this laptop in public you will get some intense concerned or angry stares from how loud the fans get. Honestly playing any AAA games even on the mid or lowest of settings the fans will sound like they're kicked all the way to 110%. It even brings it to the point where gaming is uncomfortable if you’re not using headphones. There is still time for this laptop to grow on me but we will see.

Hate writing reviews but this computer deserves one. Everyone is correct about the two hour battery life and the computer running hot causing the fan to kick in and it aint quiet. But... the computer is fast and works well with all the graphic programs I use such as PS and Lightroom. It has a good look and feel with 16 gigs of ram and a terrabyte hard drive. It would cost at least $300 more to get this in almost any other computer and I have no love for HP and Lenovo. I have heard Asus customer service isn't great and hope I won't have to find out. Happy I got this and would recommend it...

Everything in this machine is great except the backlight bleed (so far in 2 units) and the kinda loud fans. Gaming with 120hz and g sync is a experience that you once try, you'll always demand. The design of this laptop is so sleek, It looks awesome. Overall, I love this laptop and I recommend it, unless you care about battery life. Then this is not the laptop for you because it doesn't have optimus. But I'd take g sync over nvidia optimus anyday. tear-free smooth gaming > battery life. This is a gaming laptop in the end IMO.

I purchased this laptop on Sunday 11/19/2017. It had some of the best specs in store. I got home and started playing the Sims just to realize that the fan will run really loud when I would play the Sims. I assumed that was normal until I started playing games like rocket league and the fan was quiet. After a few days the PC started to overheat and shut down. I kept the fans clear and elevated. I figured this one was just defective so on 11/24/2017 I took it back to exchange for another. The same exact thing is happening with this computer. I will be taking it back today to switch for another brand.

    A Downgrade from Previous Model

I bought this in the store, and was very excited to unbox it (as I have been using the same laptop for 8 years, it was time to upgrade). I turn it on and instantly I look in the corners of the screen and see terrible backlight bleeding. First thing I noticed. It was really bad. Did some research and apparently this is more common on ASUS IPS screens. I did more research to see if there was another laptop that might be less likely to have this problem, and that is when I discovered the older model GL502. It was cheaper and had nearly the same specs, so I exchanged the GL503 for the GL502. Boy am I glad I did. Build quality, sound quality, nicer keyboard, aluminum lid...the GL502 is a far better laptop in my opinion, other than having only 12gb of ram(which is upgradeable). The GL503 design is far more plasticy, and gimicky. The audio on the 503 is echo-y. And the screen I got was just bad. My 502, which I have had for a few weeks now, has minimal discoloring in the corners, but I only notice if I look for it. I am super glad I found the previous model, and would recommend it over this one. That said, this isn't a bad computer if you get one with a better screen(which is gorgeous if it doesn't yellow in the corners). It is still sturdier than, say, the Dell 7000 which is uber cheap. It has all the inputs I wanted, and lots of power.

    Mixed thoughts about this one...

I use this for Video Editing, lite graphics and Photo editing. The screen is pretty color accurate. CPU/GPU work well for these Adobe apps however, the fans kick in pretty early and the noise is noticible. Battery life is pretty bad, lucky if you get two hours. The whole machine is a fingerprint magnet, inside and out. I had to return one due to light bleed on screen. Might return this second one due to battery, fan and day two it looked like an old machine from the fingerprints and smudges, Power is pretty good though. Might get an XPS 15 instead.

Fast system but slight issue with screen.

Bottom left and right corners of screen had backlight bleeding. I returned it and ordered the Hero edition instead with the upgraded 6GB of video ram. The Hero had same issue but now its bottom left and top left. So I will be returning it and going to try the Scar edition. I love the laptop still, the size and the speed. I just need to get a non-defective screen.

I have had this laptop for roughly two months now and have had no issues running any game I throw at it on max settings. The only con I have had with it is it’s loud but that’s to be expected. Great gaming for the price!

I bought this laptop a week ago, and I plan on exchanging it because of the fans, the screen, and the video card. The fans get wayy too loud The screen has backlight bleed in all four corners GTX 1060 stated is A 3GB MODEL (it should state that a little clearer, and you'll need the full 6gb for any recent and semi-demanding game) I did like the sleek design and RGB keyboard on this laptop however. It's a shame that the cons outweigh the pros
